Dad’s Day Fun

June is one of my favorite months…the kids are finally done with school, schedules relax a bit, and the excitement of Summer lies ahead! Plus, we celebrate our wedding anniversary (usually with a trip!), and Father’s Day.

Funny enough, our wedding day actually fell on Father’s Day 21 years ago. I remember thinking, ‘I can’t wait to have kids with this man!’ I just knew he’d be the best dad. And I was right!

Mr. SP is always game for everything from shooting hoops to deep conversations. He’s the one the kids go to with life problems because they know he’ll listen and give good, nonjudgmental advice. (He’s a therapist, after all!) He’s also who they ask when they want to go for donuts or snow cones…he rarely tells them No!

He’s the center of our family…the strength and the laughter! And all he ever wants for Father’s Day is an afternoon at home…swimming and cooking out. And maybe a nap and a round of golf! Ha!

And thanks to our new patio, the backyard area is our favorite place to be now! It’s become a true extension of our house, and the most popular ‘room.’

We eat dinner outside every night, spend weekends by the pool, and even have family movie night out here!

You know Macy’s is my go-to for all outdoor entertaining pieces!! They have an amazing selection, and the prices are always reasonable. I added a few more pieces for our summer entertaining, including this fun drink bucket with an attached bottle opener that coordinates with this serving tray.

The chip and dip bowl is part of their Cellar line, my favorite for serving ware. I think I have almost every piece in the collection by now!

Mr. SP or the teen usually mans the grill, so we gifted him a new grill set for early Father’s Day. The set is so well-made, and the wood handles are beautiful, but it’s still a great price!

The prep trays stack together perfectly, making it easy to transition from prep to serving.

Havianas are my hands-down favorite casual flip-flops! They are soft and squishy, and the rubber is not stiff (you know how some flip-flops are too firm, or too stiff between your toes…these aren’t like that!). I wear the rose gold and they’re a great neutral. They also last forever, I’ve had this pair for years.

You’ve seen this criss-cross one piece on the blog before…I have the solid black one! I couldn’t resist the colorful stripe on this one…or the great sale price! Wear the coverup open like a kimono, or zip it for full coverage. It’s a jacquard fabric with a fun flamingo pattern!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a size 4 swimsuit, and small coverup. Flip flops are true to size.

We strive to keep Little Miss in modest swimsuits (it’s getting harder every year!), and she loves the athletic fit and open back of this Nike one-piece.

Mr. SP loves the fit and feel of the O’Neill board shorts, and has this style in several color combos. They hold up great for years, too!

I still can’t believe this backyard is ours!! We’re putting the finishing touches on it, and I’ll be sharing the full space soon! This year we’re celebrating Fathers Day in Greece, but I know the rest of the Summer will be spent out here!

How do you celebrate Fathers Day? What special requests does he make for the day? Macys is a great source for Dad’s Day gift ideas, and is having a big 20% off sale with code DAD, until June 16!

Happy Fathers Day! Your backyard looks just so great and your family and friends will really enjoy that space for years to come. You’ve inspired us to update our porch. We have one of those 1970s screened in porches and no matter what I do I just can’t seem to make it look modern without a complete overhaul, but one step at a time.

Yeah the O’Neil board shorts are a big hit with my spouse as well (he’s 5’7 and short in the legs so anything that fits over the knee is a great bonus otherwise…..he looks like a skater/yo boy even though he’s 40 (#babyface)). Father’s day is very simple here. Since my dad is a 3 hour drive away, I usually just call him and since my husband’s dad is close to us, we invite him over and either go to a restaurant or order pizza at home (the kids’ preferred choice). The only annoying part is the father’s day cake/presentation at school which my husband has to attend for the kids’ sake (they do the same thing for mother’s day). This means taking time off from his very busy job (we’re not big on “commercial” holidays like this aside from Christmas, we don’t even celebrate valentine’s day and this school is particularly versed on celebrating every single little holidays with parental involvement). But this year, it’s pizza at home and I’ll be going shopping with the boys to pick out something for their dad (they chose……within budget).

Love your backyard space! We are in the process of updating our backyard and I can’t find outdoor countertops that I like, but I love what I see of yours! What material are your outdoor kitchen countertops?

Thanks Lindsey! Those are actually ottomans I’m using as optional captains chairs! They are super light and easy to move around. Here’s the link: https://shopstyle.it/l/4OeD
