Holla for Friday! It may not be a long weekend, but I’m looking forward to it none the less! I’ve been giving Little Miss’s overflowing closet the stink-eye long enough…and this is the time to tackle it! Hopefully.
Even though I shared some Fall touches around our home yesterday, we’re still several months weeks away from bringing Fall to our closets. The calendar will soon say Fall, but the temperatures will continue to scream Summer! Which really bites when you have cute new booties just dying to hit the town!
Transitioning our wardrobes to a new season always seems to cause some anxiety, so today I’m sharing how to wear those fun new Fall pieces NOW…and again LATER, when the temperatures cool down.
Swapping your sandals for booties is a simple and fun way to ease your favorite dresses in to Fall. Boots can look clunky and heavy, so I prefer a neutral color and streamlined shape for a more flattering look.
These fennel booties are almost nude, giving me the edgy style I want, while also elongating the leg. A dark or chunky/slouchy boot would visually chop my leg at the ankle, giving me a stumpy look. And we’re not going for stumpy.
Now let’s fast forward a month or two, and transition the same booties, scarf, bag and jacket for cooler days by pairing them with jeans and a striped tee. Basically my Fall uniform.
And again, when it cools down even more, I’ll add the jacket layer.
Style Tip: Cuff your jeans just above your boots to show them off, and expose a sliver of leg. But make sure you’re wearing low-ankle socks! Nothing will ruin the look faster than your ratty gym sock poking out.
The stores are flooded with an overwhelming number of boot options, so I look for not only flattering shapes and colors, but also a style with special touches like the woven texture and tassel zipper of these from Sole Society. There’s just enough heel to give me the extra height I like, but not so high as to make them uncomfortable.
Fit Tip: This bootie runs a bit small, so I went up a half-size to allow enough room for socks.
Let the record show that I almost had a full-blown heatstroke shooting this look for ya’ll, so I hope to Betsy you’re feeling inspired for Fall! Are you wearing your booties yet, or do you wait until it’s actually Fall weather? Happy weekend, lovebugs!
*This post is created in collaboration with Sole Society, but all selections, outfits & excessive sweating are my own. Thank you for supporting Hi Sugarplum sponsors!*
SUCH A GOOD POST!!!!!!! You know I have those booties, and you know I love those booties but now I love them even more!!!!!! And p.s. HELLO MODEL!!!! The pics are gorgeous!
Haha! Thanks for sacrificing. Stay hydrated! Ps… You look fab and I love, love those booties! Maybe you can do a dressing room diaries with fall shoes?! Pretty please?
Love love love this! Those booties are awesome! Love seeing how to transition to fall here in the south. Today, since it's going to be cloudy (ha!) I'm wearing my utility jacket with a striped tee and circle skirt. Can't wait for cooler temps!
Uggh. Heat. Inspiration is much appreciated, Thankfully I don't mind the high temps since we in the South get our fall quite a bit later than most. But I cannot wait to drag out my booties. All I need to shop for now are some cute floral scarves.
Love the look!! Just not feasible in NYC weather, at least not yet. Booties+socks=sweaty feet!
I can't even with these booties! I already stopped over and grabbed a pair (the coffee color is amazing too!), planning on recreating the fall outfit soon!
I appreciate your devotion to fashion blogging … heat stroke! I'm inspired! I'm in the midst of planning what to pack for a train trip across Canada so your post was helpful.
Great post — drove me to buy the scarf and booties!!
It is so hard this time of year to dress for the weather, but scarves are for sure my go to wardrobe must have.
Jenn
I love the way you styled both of the outfits. You look great!
This is great!! I just bought my first pair of booties but have yet to wear them with the heat and rain. Hopefully soon!
I am new to your blog. Discovered you thanks to Redbook. Love your site and all of the ideas for mixing in new pieces with things already in the closet.
Thanks so much, Vicky…I'm thrilled you found me and are a little bit inspired by my posts! The Redbook experience was a definite #pinchme moment…and I'm so happy it brought us together! 🙂 xoxo
