Happy Monday, friends, and welcome back! How was your weekend? With everyone home for the holiday, we kicked off our Christmas traditions with a trip to the Dallas Symphony Saturday night, and it was so fun!! I had a lump in my throat the entire time… for both the beautiful music, and being able to celebrate with my people again.
Plus, there’s nothing like a giant organ with a full choir and orchestra banging out holiday faves to get you in a Christmas frenzy! I loved the chance to get dolled up, and do some fancy hair and makeup, too.
Y’all loved my how-to on curling your hair with the Dyson Corrale Straightener a few months ago, so I thought it’d be fun to try out the Dyson Airwrap Styler! It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer (it’s seriously a game-changer!), so I was so excited to get my hands on their latest technology!

Spoiler Alert! My hair went from wet to this with just the Dyson Airwrap Styler!
The Dyson Airwrap Styler dries, curls, and smooths in one easy-to-use tool, and is engineered for multiple hair types to give you a range of styles! And all without harsh, damaging high heat! There’s no question it’s a splurge, but Dyson delivers on the versatility of it!
The Airwrap Complete styler comes with a zillion different attachments, which is how it smooths, curls, and dries… and also why it costs a small fortune. The complete set comes organized with all of the core attachments and parts, beautifully packed inside a leather-like storage case with velvet trays and dividers. Everything about it feels luxe, and lifting the lid feels like opening a treasure chest!
The Airwrap Complete styler includes:
- Base wand for all the attachments
- Blow-drying head
- Soft smoothing brush (ideal for fine hair)
- Firm smoothing brush (ideal for medium-to-coarse hair)
- Two 1.6″ barrels (one for each direction)
- Two 1.2″ barrels (one for each direction)
- 2.21″ round brush
- Storage case with a filter cleaner
It even includes a separate case for traveling with the base and a few attachments. Talk about an amazing gift for the beauty lovers!!
The base and attachments are shockingly lightweight, and easily switch out with the press of a button. It also has three heat settings and three fan settings, none of which gets overly hot, which is part of what makes the Dyson Airwrap Styler so amazing, and quite frankly, so mystifying!
How to Use the Dyson Airwrap Styler for Curls
Step One // Dry Your Hair
Using the blow dryer attachment, dry your hair only until it’s about 70%. Hair that’s too wet is harder to manipulate with the barrels, and hair that’s too dry won’t style at all. The sweet spot for me is when my hair looks mostly dry, but still feels a little steamy and humid.
Step Two // Section Your Hair
Just like you would when working with any other curling iron, section and clip your hair up and out of the way, only releasing small sections as you style them.
Step Three // Choose Your Barrel
If you want smooth, straight hair, choose one of the paddle brushes and simply comb it through your hair until dry. I like to finish with the round brush attachment for a little bend on the ends, and lift at the crown.
Step Four // Wrap Your Hair
I assumed the Dyson Airwrap Styler suctioned your hair around the barrel, which frankly, made me a little nervous. But in fact, there is no suction! Dyson with their wizardry engineering found a way to use air flow that wraps in circles around the barrel to hold your hair in place! The hair dries on the barrel, creating long-lasting, smooth, voluminous curls!
Simply hold a section of hair from the middle of the strand, and place the barrel towards the end… and the Dyson Airwrap Styler does the rest! There is definitely a learning curve and it took me several tries to get the hang of it, but once it clicks, the whole head goes quickly and it feels like second nature.
And since it uses the direction of air flow to wrap, dry, and curl, the Dyson Airwrap Styler comes with two barrels depending on the direction of curl you want.
Sugarplum Tip: The barrels have arrows to show the direction of airflow, but it’s easiest to look at them in the mirror to know which one to use on which side!
Step Five // Cool & Release
After you’ve held the section in place for a few seconds (you’ll be able to feel when the hair is dry), press the cool setting to set the curl, then turn off the Airwap to release the hair. Grab a new section, and repeat, making sure to change barrels for the other side.
Step Six // Shake it Out
Use your fingers to break up the curls, or gently brush through for even more volume. Since the air doesn’t compress the cuticle like a curling or flat iron, hair has crazy amounts of volume that look straight out of a salon! And since the hair went from wet to set, the curls last much longer and remain frizz-free!
As you can see, it definitely gives a full, bouncy curl. My next goal is to practice curling so the ends stay straighter.
The Airwrap Styler actually uses intelligent heat control to measure over 40 times a second to help preserve hair’s natural shine and protect against extreme heat damage…. genius, I tell you!
So do I recommend you buy it? That’s impossible for me to say! Do you blow dry and curl or straighten your hair regularly? If so, the Dyson Airwrap Styler will replace all your other styling tools! And since it’s made with Dyson’s incredible technology, it will last for years and years. I do think the curling works best on medium to long hair.
Now it’s your turn… have you tried this incredible new hair tool? Are you curious to try it now?! If you have a beauty lover on your list, I can’t think of a better gift to blow their mind than the Airwrap Styler or the Supersonic Hair Dryer!
I was hoping you would review this! I bought the Amika brush at your recomendation, and while it is great for smoothing, doesn’t deliver much volume for me, so have been investigating other options. I was especially curious-how do you feel the power of this hair dryer compares to the Dyson Supersonic? Are the two interchangeable?
That’s a great question! I wouldn’t say they are completely interchangeable…the dryer comes with different attachments, and is a little more powerful.
Crud I JUST bought the Dyson dryer
It’s good but this looks more versatile
Don’t worry, you will still absolutely LOVE your Dyson hairdryer and absolutely not regret that purchase!!! xo, C
I just got the Dyson Airwrap Styler! It is AMAZING! You are right, there is a slight learning curve but I’m excited to keep using it until it becomes second nature. Thank you for this fabulous review.
Oh Susan I am SO GLAD that you love it!!!!!!! Xo, C
