Hi Sugarplum!

Back to School Style

July 30, 2019

This Summer has been an absolute whirlwind, and I can hardly believe we’re less than two weeks away from returning to school! Little Miss goes back earlier than ever this year, so she’s already started gathering supplies, planning outfits, and waiting impatiently for her class schedule to be released.

Now that she’s older, she has a very clear idea of her style and how she wants to dress. It’s as if the new school year is the opportunity to reinvent and try new things. Gone are the athletic shorts and oversized gray hoodies (well, for now anyway!), and they’ve been replaced by colorful pieces that fit her frame.

I’ve been receiving lots of requests for teen styles, and she wholeheartedly agreed to shop and share! And you’ll be as thrilled as me to know these are all Walmart finds, so they’re super affordable!

LOOK 1

Her go-to look, this girl loves jeans and a flannel (what they call plaid shirts)! But her narrow frame and long legs make it tricky to find good ones that fit, so we were both thrilled to find these.

They’re a slim fit with lots of stretch and an adjustable waist. They come in several washes and launder well, too. She loves the color and fit of the plaid, but it was the soft feel that won her over (she doesn’t do itchy!).

Fit Tip: Use the website sizing chart to determine best size.

Did you know Walmart has a huge Uniform Shop, and most pieces are around $5!? She doesn’t wear a uniform to school, but we both loved this style! The polo is a super-soft knit with good structure, and comes in a handy 2-pack for less than $10!

The has a side zipper and button, with a comfortable elastic waist in the back, and beautifully-done box pleats. It’s hard to believe it’s under $10, too!

LOOK 3

The tricky part about starting school in August is the heat! It’s still super-hot, but most of her shorts don’t meet the school’s dress code standard. She was thrilled to find these lightweight pants!

They’re silky-soft with a comfortable pull-on elastic paperbag waist. She paired them with a basic tee for now, and longer sleeves later. They’re super cute with sneakers and sandals.

The tagless-tee is super soft jersey, and comes in a 2-pack for just $5!

Walmart also has literally 1000s of backpacks and lunchboxes. The selection online is vast and sure to satisfy even the pickiest shopper!

I’m so proud to be this darling girl’s mama. I know she’s watching and listening to every thing I do and say, and always feel the weight of raising a strong, confident, independent person! Teenage girl years are significantly different than a boy’s, any advice from you teen girl mamas? Besides lots of deep breaths, ha!

Have you started shopping back to school yet? Walmart has all the styles, supplies and more to make it a one-stop shop!

Everything is super cute on the Little Miss, but my favourite is the plaid skirt. So, cute. I also love those paper bag jeans on her. Very cute on her as well. I used to love getting new clothes for school as a kid and loved getting my kids ready for school too. Those days are long gone now, so enjoy it while it lasts. It’s been fun watching your kids grow up.

Cute clothes. However any clothing item I’ve ever purchased from Walmart hasn’t washed well. I guarantee those paper bag jeans and the plaid will need some serious ironing after it’s washed… and the bow on those jeans will likely never be the same. This full time working mom of 5 doesn’t have time for that. So I’d rather pay a little more and get good quality. Now i know you are getting paid from Walmart, but this is important info to include!

Thanks for the feedback, Carol! I definitely like to mix high and low, but love finding great deals on the kid’s clothes I know they’ll outgrow quickly! We actually washed all these pieces and they didn’t require any more prep than any other similar pieces!

Your sweet girl is adorable! Her style is both fashionable and wholesome. I have a son entering his freshman year also and would love to see what your son is planning to wear this school year!

Cute stuff, and little miss looks adorable, but I wouldn’t exactly call this “teen style” since all of the close you linked are from the “girls” section. My 13 year old daughter and all of her friends have to shop in the juniors section–the girls section doesn’t fit them anymore. Can you do a post for more young teen style??

Thanks Jill! My daughter is petite for her age, but most of the items she’s wearing go to size 18! She’s 13, and this is her young teen style. 😉

My 9-year-old daughter just picked out that same plaid shirt today for her first day outfit too!! We missed seeing those jeggings though…she doesn’t do anything non-stretchy, so we’ll definitely need to check them out! Thanks for the tips!

Great pictures of your sweet little miss! I don’t usually comment, but just had to reply to the earlier comment about Walmart quality. I have never had a problem with the quality or endurance of any clothing from Walmart. I personally have items that I have worn regularly for 5+ years with no issues whatsoever! And they require no more care than any other piece of clothing. Thanks for offering content and recommendations on products in this price range! Have a wonderful week!
