Back in Black

Hi Sugarplum! It’s Monday…again…but the upside is, it’s another week closer to fall! Not many people look forward to fall more than Texans….after a month of 100+ degree temps, we are ready to go outside again!

Fall also means holidays…and family coming over for the holidays! And I don’t know about you, but nothing motivates me to get stuff done more than a house guest. Next time you move, offer to host Thanksgiving…for your in-laws…in your new home! I bet you won’t have boxes laying around for long.

Same is true for the pesky maintenance stuff that always seems to pile up. I was lucky enough to have the talented Bryn Alexandra over yesterday morning for a dining room consult (it’s been stumping me). But also, I just really wanted to meet her. (I’ve been a fan of her work and blog for awhile.)

I was giving my dining room a quick glance to make sure nothing embarrassing was going on before she came over, when I spied this:

Hi Tarnish, where’d you come from? Didn’t I just polish you, um, like, a year ago? (And how did I become old enough to own silver?!) Normally I’d chose to ignore this, but if anyone is going to notice your nasty silver, it’s a designer!

So I whipped out the Wright’s Silver Polish, and 30 minutes later:

Yeah, I’d say that looks better. So I rounded up the rest of it:

My rescued tray reflects the new shiny silver:

As do the candlesticks:

I didn’t actually serve her tea (nor have I ever used the service, but I guess I’m obligated to have one…being a southern gal and all?!) But Bryn, thanks for coming over…not only for your amazing ideas, but as motivation to get some much needed Fall cleaning done! I can not wait to get started on the projects we discussed…and I highly recommend her!!

Polishing the silver took less than an hour, yet I avoid it at all costs. Do you avoid things in your house too?!? (validate me please!!)

  3. The silver looks so pretty and shiny now! That's awesome to have a designer do a consult in your home. I can't wait to hear what her ideas were. I need to check out her blog- can't believe I haven't already. I have no idea what to do with my dining room either. And I did email your fave Erinn last night about my design dilemma- curtains for my living room. We'll see if I get a response. Her blog said something about emailing her with a design dilemma, so I did:)
