Zella Girls

Happy almost Friday, lovebugs! Thanks for the love on our Fall Home Tour yesterday… I wish I could have you all over for hot toddies by the fire! Socially distanced, of course!

Kidding aside, one of the positives of 2020 has definitely been the added family time! My kids don’t always see it that way, but it’s certainly a season they’ll always remember. Little Miss has virtual school three days a week, and we love to spend her break getting outside. I’ve found with both my kids (husband too!), some of our best talks are on long walks.

Something about our eyes facing forward, rather than on each other, and a destination in mind, helps walls to come down and the words to flow. And let me tell you, 14-year old girls have a lot to say! She’s so insightful, and maturing before our eyes… and even though I worry about her everyday, I also have such confidence in her.

On her: Hooded Quilted Jacket | Tank (Up to 55% off!) | Side-Stripe Leggings | Sneakers

She’s always had a fairly casual style, with a strong focus on comfort, so she loves the legging and hoodie uniform of 2020! She’s particular about her pieces though, and won’t wear anything that’s not soft and comfortable, and it must be wearable on-and-off the volleyball court.

So no surprise she loves Zella like her mom, and Zella Girl has some of the cutest styles for sizes up to 16.

She was instantly drawn to the stripes on these leggings, and loves the soft, brushed texture. They’re a great weight for cooler months, too. Her jacket has the cutest quilting on the front and a heavy sweatshirt material on the back and sleeves.

I love the 7/8 length leggings, which means they fit my 5’4″ frame at the ankle without hemming! These have a slim side pocket for a phone or key, and are nice and thick for cooler months. They also have some compression for keeping everything locked-and-loaded, but aren’t constricting.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS leggings and size small jacket.

We’re already sharing shoes, and it won’t be long before she can wear all my clothes, too. Not that she would… she tells me I’m much too colorful, ha! Fortunately Zella Girl goes to size 16, so she can stay in the more affordable girls and teen sizing for a little longer.

Did you know Zella is actually Nordstrom’s brand of activewear? So you know the quality is there, not to mention the customer service!

I love this darling girl of mine with my whole heart, and no matter the hurdles of 2020 or the teenage years, I know we’ll get through them together. But I’m always open for advice… have you raised a teenage girl? Share all the wisdom and advice, please!! After all, it takes a village!

Adorable pictures. I love the stripe leggings. We have one daughter and I have a piece of advice I always gave her – even now. When something ever went wrong in her life, for whatever reason, I always said to her “what did you learn from this experience that you can take with you moving forward?” It must have worked – she is a Ph.D, college professor and administrator, married with children.

I don’t have any advice, and something tells me you don’t really need it. You seem like a wonderful mother and your kids seem so nice. I have to say your daughter seems to have really had a growth spurt and is looking very grown up these days!! Beautiful girl.

Teenage daughters require lots of patience and a willingness to listen at the worst times but they are also wonderful to have.

Just catching up on your blog and read this post. I am a therapist who works a lot with teen girls and have a 14 year old daughter myself and the books I use and recommend all the time are by Lisa Damour (Untangled and Under Pressure). She has great down-to-earth advice for all kinds of situations and issues. Her website and podcast are so helpful too and easy to reference when things come up that parents might need some extra insight or help with: https://www.drlisadamour.com/ You have a beautiful family and I enjoy reading your posts!
