Winter Brights | Navy & White

Monday came around way to quickly over here…but then again, when doesn’t it?! We saw Lion, which was phenomenal, but also one of the saddest movies I’ve ever seen. As a mother, my heart was in full-blown panic and shattered heartbreak the entire movie. We’re talking #uglycry levels. How’s that for a review?! We’d also planned to take the kids to see A Dog’s Purpose, but I didn’t have the emotional strength, so that one will have to wait another week! What movies have you seen and loved lately?

Today I’m excited to kick off a new {5 Ways} series with you! Our Winters are fairly mild, so my wardrobe doesn’t vary drastically from Fall, but I know the opposite is true for many of you. And what starts out as exciting and beautiful, quickly gets old when you have day after day of frigid air and snow. By now, the novelty of Winter has probably worn off and you’ve grown weary of your wardrobe, so this week I’m sharing new ways to inject fun and color into your daily outfits, with 5 Ways to Wear Winter Brights!

There’s no question I love color, in both my closet and home, but I also tend to gravitate to black and gray this time of year, so I had to search my closet with fresh eyes to create only bright and colorful combinations. White jeans are a good idea year-round (see my examples for wearing them after Labor Day here and here), but they are especially crisp when paired with brights in Winter.

You’ve heard me sing the praises of these particular white jeans before, after having tried no fewer than 20 pair! They were all too thin, too low, too high, or too pricey. I can get away with thinner jeans in a dark rinse (love these!), but white jeans tend to show all the lumps and bumps if they don’t have a certain amount of thickness. I also hate when the pockets show through!

But these are my Goldilocks of white jeans. I’d say Holy Grail of white jeans, but that might be a tad dramatic. The mid-rise hits at the right spot to be flattering, but still cover all the lady bits. They have just enough thickness and stretch to provide support, and a comfortable fit. And finally, the pockets stay hidden, and they don’t break the bank!! See? Holy Grail Goldilocks!

Fit Tip: I sized down one (I’m wearing a 0), and had them hemmed to ankle-length. They are definitely Women’s sizing, as opposed to Juniors. I wear them with these undies for a seamless look.

I paired them with a darling fair isle sweater, along with several shades of pink, and flattering ankle booties. After all, what says Winter more than fair isle? But the shades of pink are fresh and unexpected for this time of year. (The sweater is on sale for $35 with code GETSHOPPING)

I featured the booties in this recent post, pairing them with both black and denim, but as you can see, they’re perfect with white, as well.

No colors, including white, are off-limits for Winter…as long as the fabrics and materials make sense for the season, it’s all free game! I’ll be sharing my take on Winter Brights all this week, so stay tuned! What are your favorite bright combos to wear this time of year?

It’s been months since our 5 Ways series, and considering they’re my favorites to create, I hope to incorporate them a little more frequently this year. What topics or items of clothing would you like to see me tackle? You can see all our previous 5 Ways here.

P.S…if you’re more of a neutral girl, this 5 Ways Winter Neutrals is for you. Also, check out this 3 Ways post.

Love love love this color combo! I gravitate towards grey and black in the winter but as February approaches I’m falling for color all over again! Your 5 ways white tee was a favorite of mine! I need new sandals this spring…maybe you can include shoes in a Dressing Room Diaries? ❤

I highly recommend Lion also. We’ve went to see it twice. I’ve loved Dev Patel ever since I saw him in Slumdog Millionaire:)

I love these posts, thank you! I would love to see some of your sample outfits for specific situations besides work. For example I’m your age and when I’m going to a concert or a dinner party etc, I find myself wondering WWCW (what would Cassie wear)? LOL

Love the 5 Ways Series! I added the black and white buffalo check vest to my wardrobe based on how versatile (and cute) you showed it to be. I would love to see 5 Ways to Wear Flats for us taller girls and ladies with foot problems. I need to find a comfortable (not too narrow) leopard print flat. Thanks.

I love your sense of color. 🙂 In a season where it’s easy to get caught-up in black/gray/navy blue, the sweater and coat really pop. I think they are so pretty! Love this outfit.
