First of all, thank you for your beyond-kind comments yesterday! They totally choked me up (or maybe it was my PMS), and I’m thrilled you find a bit of inspiration here.
The last six weeks have been such a blur, that I don’t even know where to start, or really how it all came to be…but as of New Years Eve, we are now the proud new owners of this gorgeous house! This picture is from the listing, as I haven’t even had a chance to take any of my own.

Were we looking to move?
Moving wasn’t even on our radar, or even something we talked about! While space was a little tight, we were happy as clams in our home now.
Did we look at any other houses?
Nope, we’re moving because of this house…it feels as though it found us.
Have you sold the house you live in?
Um, not yet.
Aren’t you freaking out about having two houses?
More than you can imagine!!
One day I’m dropping our son at a friend’s house in a new-to-me neighborhood, and the next we’re touring this house up the street from him. A few days later we put in an offer, and by Thanksgiving we were under contract. Not to trivialize, but this really is one of those situations that was so meant to be, there was no stopping the train.
Each time I would fear our decision, or come up with a reason why we shouldn’t do it…another door would open, revealing we were on the right path. You know decisions aren’t my strong-suit, and we are very conservative when it comes to spending, but God all but knocked me up side the head, pushing us in this direction, giving us signs along the way.
I hated keeping all this a secret from you guys, but I really couldn’t talk about it until the deal was done. (Mr. SP is afraid of The Jinx.) And then, when it became clear we were in fact moving, we had to scramble to prepare our house for the market! So while many of you were sipping cocoa by the tree, we were painting and mulching, cleaning and caulking. It was a busy holiday break, to say the least!
That hard work paid off when we listed our house this weekend, but because of the whole jinx thing, I can’t talk about it yet. But once again, the door opened easily, and it became even more clear we made the right choice.
So when are we moving?!? Funny you should ask, because this tale gets even more interesting!!! The day after we went under contract on the new house, with a close date of December 31, we got word that not one, but TWO, national magazines wanted to come shoot our current house! Oh yeah, and at the end of January.
Of course I’m thrilled beyond belief, and not about to miss this opportunity…but it means we can’t move, or even pack a single box, until they are done. (That was an interesting conversation explaining to Mr. SP why he couldn’t move in to the new house yet!!)
It’s all great news for you guys though…because now we’re scrambling to complete all the unfinished rooms and projects in our current house for the shoot, while also using this time to knock out some big changes we want to make in the new house (calling Mr. Rockstar Contractor!), and I’ll document it all here! I’ll admit, I’ve got a bit of the wild, crazy-eye thing going on right now!
I am so excited for the change, overwhelmed by all the work that lies
ahead, and anxious about making this house feel like our home. But mostly,
I’m just so grateful to continue the next chapter of our family’s story
here. I hope you’ll follow along for the ride!
