Hi Sugarplum!

{Valentine} Sweetheart Table

February 13, 2013

Just when you thought I had no more pink and red left in me, I’m busting out one final Valentine themed post. Dinners at our house are a casual affair, with no real food table settings. The kids are fairly indifferent to holiday decor throughout the house, but they do love a fancy table…so I set one just for them! And to make it even more interesting, I challenged myself to create it by shopping only my house and the Dollar Store!

Hi Sugarplum | Valentine Table

All the items by themselves aren’t particularly interesting (except the gold flatware, that’s fancy all by itself!), but piled up together are really cute. The felt placemats, napkins, glass plates and doilies are all Dollar Store. The polka dot ‘tablecloth’ is a scrap of fabric from my stash.

Hi Sugarplum | Valentine Table

My penmanship is serial killer questionable, so I printed the kid’s names from the computer, and traced them on the doily. They are layered under the glass plates as placecards.

Hi Sugarplum | Valentine Table

The flatware is arranged as a nod to ‘XO.’ Are X’s hugs or kisses? (Update: Heather just told us Xs are kisses…for when lips touch…and Os are hugs…arms wrapping around each other! Thanks girlie!!)

Hi Sugarplum | Valentine Table

For fun table confetti, I punched hearts from paint swatches and scrapbook paper.

Hi Sugarplum | Valentine Table

My tiered-platter is placed in the middle for height, and decorated with cupcakes (toothpicks from Dollar Store), and the Burlap Treat Bags. The pink glasses are World Market, and the red stripey straws leftover from this party.

Too bad we ate all the Cupcakes in a Jar. Guess we’ll have to make do with these. Life has such hardships.

There was more than enough sugar, but I couldn’t resist making little favors…using plastic cups, heart picks, and crinkle paper from Dollar Store. The little flags are made with washi tape.

Hi Sugarplum | Valentine Table

My precious Valentine is happy! My other little Valentine forbid me to post his picture, since he hadn’t yet fixed his hair.

Hi Sugarplum | Valentine Table

How about that sweetheart of a table for under $10?! Having it makes dinners a little bit sweeter, and a lot more special this week. Are you hosing down your table with pinks and reds?

What a fun table setting. I miss the days when our girls had their Valentine's Tea parties.

Cute table and I love the price! My daughter asked me the same question the other day: which was the hug and which was the kiss in XO?

So cute! X's are kisses (when your lips touch). O's are hugs (imagine your arms hugging someone).

This is SO cute! I wish Valentine's {and most holiday's except Christmas} were big here in Scotland. Looks like a lot of fun!

I have a friend who decorates her table for every holiday. They have a gourmet meal and the kids dress up! I've been thinking about what fun it would be to do that with my little family. I'll have to start planning!

Can't believe you were able to do all that for under $10. That's my kind of decorating. 🙂

I always was told that 0 were kisses from the pucker and the x's were the crossing arms of a hug.

Very cute. I love when people can create fun things from leftovers and "cheap" supplies. It's much more interesting to me than when someone goes to a schmancy fancy stores and buys everything to set out (weather table top decor or anything else!). 😀

I didn't do anything like this. The extent of my valentine decor is a valentine tree in my foyer. It's pretty darn cute if I do say so myself.

I thought I spied a croissant on her plate, and the comment above confirms it! It's almost as if you could gaze across the Seine at La Tour Eiffel whilst eating that meal- well played Ms. Sugarplum. The table looks fantastique! PS- if you tell me there's chocolate in that croissant I may have to hop on the next plane…just sayin'

Japanese Valentine gift, chocolate is the NO.1.
I am the eldest daughter of a gift set of chocolate and tobacco.
In junior high school and high school, she studied in the United States.
    It is a great setting.
    I am forever grateful.
