I know it’s like a tennis match over here lately, with the back and forth between houses…but we worked so hard prepping the old house for sale and a photoshoot, so I want to be sure and share those final projects with you. That way I can wrap up the Home Tour for our memory banks, too.
If you recall, the Master Bedroom makeover came on hot and heavy…we had barely gotten started (with just new bedding), but the magazine added the room to their shot list, not to mention, we unexpectedly needed to sell the house…so we had to crank it in to high gear. Basically the opposite of how I usually operate!

Selling all the heavy, dark furniture on Craigslist, and replacing it with lighter, upholstered pieces made the biggest difference in transforming the room. The second, was adding bold drapes to better define the windows.

I used a combination of Grace’s faux-lucite tutorial, and Kristen’s source for inexpensive brass hardware, to create these stunning rods that served as a glamorous backdrop for my budget-friendly drapes. Together they make such a statement…without breaking the bank!

We kept the white wood blinds for darkness and privacy, but added matchsticks to cover them and add texture. The windows are quite small (especially in comparison to the bed), but we made them appear grand by mounting the blinds and drapes much higher and wider than the actual windows. That forced the inside panels to hang behind the bed, which I love.

The colorful drapes made it easy for me to shop our house for most of the decor and accessories…everything coordinated!

The snow leopard and chevron pillows are a fun counter to the feminine florals (I do happen to share the room with a man). #scandalous

The hutch houses the TV, installed on a pull-out shelf (thank you rockstar-contractor) so it can be watched from bed, or the new sitting area.

And what’s a reveal post without a little Before and After?

She’s come a long way, baby!

And we’ll end with the obligatory Maggie photobomb. #mythirdbaby

Since the time frame was so short, and we were moving houses (our new bedroom has a completely different layout),
we didn’t complete everything in our initial plan…but the room still
turned out better than I could have imagined. I miss it every day,
especially given the state of our current bedroom!
I can’t believe it took us 10 years to actually give our own room a
makeover! We are definitely changing that in the new house…mom and
dad’s room will come first! (Well, first after the Kitchen anyway.)
