The Friday Five

Hallelujah, it’s Friday! You guys totally gave me the big-head with your compliments on my outfit yesterday…thank you so much! We’ve got a busy weekend ahead, so here’s hoping my boss decides it should start early!

1) I’m a sucker for black & white stripes, in my closet or decor. They add an element of sportiness, which I love paired with feminine pieces. Just in like yesterday’s outfit…the striped bag kept the outfit from being too sweet.

2) I don’t know how it happened, but our Babygirl is turning 8! Her party is tomorrow, and thanks to Minted, we’ve got super cute invites and decor. I’m attempting to make a cake outside my comfort-zone, so cross your fingers for me.

3) This video had me grinning like a big goof from start-to-finish. Don’t blame me if you have the urge to watch Footloose (the original! sorry Julianne) this weekend.

4) Kris at Driven By Decor compiled a great list of blogger tips…perfect for newbies and old hags like myself. I contributed my two-cents, and learned some new ones from the others.

5) Oh look, another outfit moodboard…I just can’t help myself! I love white jeans, but have been without them for years because I can’t seem to find a good pair. They need to be thick enough to not show the outline of the pockets (or your undies!), have a little stretch, well-placed back pockets, and just the right length to hit at the ankle.

I finally hit the white jeans jackpot with these! I did go up one size in them…bumps + lumps + white jeans = not cute. And no, I’m not going to stop posting the elephant tassel, or the denim jacket, until everyone has one. I’m that obsessed.

That whole white jeans and Memorial Day/Labor Day rule doesn’t really apply around here…does it for you? I love them now with long-sleeves and a jacket, and in the summer with tanks and a lightweight scarf. Happy weekend, lovebugs!

  5. Hey! I have a baby girl turning nine next week and her party is this weekend too. She wants a Frozen birthday party, so I have to get clever with food and decorations. Happy birthday to our girls! I love both Footloose movies and tend to watch them back to back…then listen to the soundtracks nonstop for a month. Have a wonderful weekend friend!

  6. I am so ready to break out my white jeans – they are my spring/summer wardrobe staple, and I wear them with absolutely everything. I'm glad you agree that we can start wearing them early. Also, I've watched that Jimmy Fallon/Kevin Bacon video approximately 100 times in the past week – I can't get enough!

    Have a great weekend!

The Friday Five

Wah-Whoa-Wee-Wah, am I glad it’s Friday! My week was super busy, and I capped it off with a mammogram, pap smear, and a brow wax. Awesome. But at least I know it can only get better now, right?! I think I’ll be topping it off starting tonight…if you know what I’m sayin’! Your amazing comments on our Bedroom Refresh and my DIY Marble Tray were definite highlights, and so appreciated!

1) The {Outfit Inspirations} I post here tend to be dressier, since it’s usually what I wore to work. So I like to post more casual, everyday outfits on my InstaGram and Facebook. This one from yesterday was pretty popular, and several people wanted details…so here’s the breakdown. Oh, and 80% of my wardrobe is 5-10 years old, so I can’t always link you to exact items.

Striped Top | Similar
Necklace | Old Navy (not shown online, but it’s new)
Jeans | Nordstrom
Watch | Fossil

Shoes | Toms Wedges

2) It doesn’t feel like it now, but Spring is around the corner. Which also means major gift-giving season…Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and endless birthday parties and showers. Uncommon Goods has become my go-to for creative and unique gifts…I can always find the best gift ideas for men, women and kids. They
carry thousands of cool gifts, from fun jewelry and accessories to
creative home decor and kitchen items. I love that they find and feature artists and handmade items, and a portion of every order goes to your charity of choice. Giving good and doing good. Hey, that’s clever…maybe they should hire me for slogan writing!

Hi Sugarplum | Uncommon Goods
No-Clean Aquarium (perfect for a Kitchen Window) | Agate Coasters
Bike Tumblers | Prism Pendant | Owl Eyeglasses Holder (so cute sitting bed-side)

3) It may be too early to say, but I think I might have found the absolute perfect Spring and Summer shoe. This pretty Watercolor Floral Sandal would be perfect with all my dresses and skirts. Can’t you just see it with a black and white stripe dress like this one, or a solid like this teal dress. It’d be cuteness overload with this polka dot shift! I’ve had pretty good luck with Steve Madden shoes in the past, so this pretty little jewel might need to come home with me!

4) I am a sucker for a good Ikea Hack…it just amazes me how basic, inexpensive items can be completely transformed with some creativity. The adorable Ashley Rose of Sugar & Cloth added some simple DIY leather handles to her Ikea dresser for instant chic.

5) My friend Lauren writes the most charming blog, Aspiring Kennedy. She’s a Dallas-girl living a traveler’s dream in London, with her adorable family. We got to follow along with her sweet journey of getting pregnant, and discovering it was twin girls, and then sadly, we read of their horrible heartbreak in her Bassinet’s Half Full post. I was fortunate enough to attend Lauren’s baby shower, so my heart clinches for them every time I think of it. Her recent post, One Lost, reflects on the last year, and I was so beyond touched by her resiliency and strong-hold to her faith. I feel inadequate even mentioning it, but her story is so poignant, it needs to be read. For me, it’s also a good reminder that no matter how charmed a person’s life seems, we’re all carrying our own burden.

I’ll be hugging my loved ones extra close…happy weekend, lovebugs!

  4. I want those shoes.

I discovered Lauren thru you back when she was pregnant with her girls…and followed her story of heartbreak & joy. When I have a trying day or see so-called complaining on IG or elsewhere, I honestly think of Lauren's story & how things could be so much worse. And how light can come out of darkness.

    Thanks for the reminder, friend.

    xoxo

  5. I totally get you Cassie, I stopped even trying to link back to the clothes I wear because mine are equally as old! I add a few new things each season, and purge some old, but for the most part, I keep my clothes for several years!
