The Friday Five

Happy, Merry Friday!! Hopefully shopping and decorating are winding down in your house, and you are settling in to enjoy and savor this season. I hope to spend the weekend snuggled up with my family and gazing at our Color Blocked Tree. I tend to take the decor down soon after Christmas, so I have less than a week left to enjoy it. Today’s Friday Five has a few things to inspire and help you with the last-minute details.

1) No matter how much I plan ahead, there are always a few gifts straggling at the end, and I’m left scrounging for tags. These free printables will come in handy.

2) It’s been an honor to be a contributor for I Heart Organizing this year, but even better, was becoming real-life friends with the sweet Jen. She is amazing and adorable, and now I’m honored to call her friend. She ended the year with a blow-out round-up Contributor Post, which has all of us answering her frequently asked organizing questions. While you’re over there, check out her new Gift Wrap Station, too. You’ll probably lick your computer.

3) I loved sharing our Home Tour in Just a Girl‘s Christmas series….but even better was all the inspiration from the fellow bloggers! Did you see them all? I’ve updated the links, so cuddle up with a cocoa and go check them out….they are sure to kick your Christmas spirit up another notch.

Another fun series was sharing my Favorite Things with 320 Sycamore. I loved reading through everyone else’s picks, and now I have a new list of things to try out!

4) This is the final week for Faith, our Elf on the Shelf…and I think I’ll miss her more than the kids. These were the most popular this week, but follow me on InstaGram for all her hijinks.

She had an all-night bender, double-fisting both the chocolate and caramel syrups.

Faith’s dreams of joining Cirque du Soleil were dashed when she realized she lacked the upper-body strength to pull herself back up the rope.

She found herself the victim of a hostage situation. What her captors didn’t know, is that Santa doesn’t negotiate with plastic terrorists.

Tired of being called ‘polyester arms’, Faith set out to prove there was more to her than synthetic filler.
And it’s been fun with so many of you playing along in the #HiSugarplumElfFun, too….here are a few of my favorites this week.

5) And finally, I wanted to remind you guys of the best and easiest Pay It Forward you can do all season…and it doesn’t cost a dime! For every new ‘Like’ on their Facebook page, New Leaf Energy will PLANT A TREE!! So far, we’ve planted 287 trees!! That is so awesome…like a little mini Sugarplum Forest! If you want to plant a tree, all you have to do is click this link! But hurry, their tree drive ends December 23rd.

How was your week? Are you done with the shopping, wrapping and cooking? Happy weekend, lovebugs!

The Friday Five

Hey there, friends, and Happy Friday!! Today’s Five is quite the random collection…with everything from butts to serial killers…welcome to my brain!

1) Shopping for jeans is probably my least favorite, up there with bathing suit and grocery shopping. And it’s no wonder, because no two women are built alike, so how can they possibly make jeans that fit everyone? Hence why I end up trying on 782 20 different styles every time. I may find a pair that fits through the thighs, but have the dreaded bootie gap at the waist. Or another pair that fits the waist, but are so tight I’m afraid people will throw $1 bills at me. (That was a hooker reference, and sadly, not the first on this blog.)

So when my friend Sheaffer insisted she’d found jeans that look good on everybody, I had to try. I picked them up and noticed that the denim was soft with a nice stretch. I pulled them on and was pleased to find they weren’t too tight in the thigh or butt. Then I turned around and was shocked that there was no gap at the waist! So I sent Sheaffer this pic from the dressing room….and her response was, ‘Skinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnyyyyyy!’ So of course I bought 10 pairs them on the spot.

They really are the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (for those of you who don’t watch teen movies, that means they look good on everyone). I’d have paid almost anything for these magic jeans, but at under $60, they are a total steal. Especially since they look the same as this pricier version. Get your own pair HERE. And Sheaffer, I’ll never doubt you again!

Photographing your own butt has got to be the most awkward thing ever.

2) Do you watch Dexter and Breaking Bad??? Next to Homeland, they are my favorite shows on TV. This is the last season for both, and the final episodes have been so intense I can hardly stand it! I’ve watched every one with my mouth hanging open, and my hand clutching my heart. So good!!! I’m rooting for Dexter to come out on top, and for Walter White to burn.

3) The sweet people at Kiwi Crate gifted us with what might be the neatest thing ever to land in our mailbox. It’s a cute little box filled with all the materials and inspiration for two complete children’s craft projects.

Hi Sugarplum | Kiwi Crate

My daughter declared it ‘The best craft box ever!!’, but I’ve decided it’s ‘Mommy’s Quiet Afternoon.’ Yep, she spent several hours completely engrossed in creating. You can buy the crates individually by theme, or sign up for monthly deliveries. And you know all those birthday parties your kids go to? These would make the best gifts, and have the perfect $20 price tag. They have super cute party favors, too. I’m stocking up! (Pssst, this link gives you $10 off your first order.)

Hi Sugarplum | Kiwi Crate

4) I’m a hardcore nag when it comes to my kid’s stuff left scattered all over the house. Half the time I’m tempted to toss it in the trash. Michelle at 4 Men 1 Lady came up with the genius idea of a Ransom Box. Items not picked up are held hostage by her, and the kids can do a chore to earn them back. A tidy house and child labor…woot!

5) A big, phat WELCOME to returning sponsor Lisa Leonard Designs. I’m such a fan of her hand-stamped jewelry, and couldn’t be happier to have her part of this wee little blog. Thank you for supporting the sponsors that keep the projects flowing around here!

  7. I am loving those jeans and they look fantastic on you! I am so going to give them a try because I have problems finding jeans to fit well, so maybe they'll work for me! Fingers crossed! I haven't watched Dexter or Breaking Bad but just finished House of Cards and it is so awesome! It's on Netflix and I watched all of the episodes in a week!

    Thanks for sharing girl!

  8. I don't watch Dexter, but I am also voting for WW to burn! I love that show to death, but with everything that happened to Jesse this week and the baby I just about had to stop watching (I guess that's a sign of a good show though…that you actually care enough to maybe stop watching!)

The amount of wine I have to drink while watching Dexter and BB is…a lot. SO stressful but I LOVE it. And with Homeland right around the corner, I need to stock up.

But seriously. What is going to happen with Dexter and where is WW going?!

  11. Ryan is addicted to Breaking Bad, too. Ok. . . that ransom box is pure genius. Seriously. Such a great idea. And you are so rocking those jeans!

  12. My life will not be the same when Breaking Bad is over. It is seriously one of the best shows ever! I'm so obsessed! I think the ricin definitely comes into play somehow. I've really gotten into Orange is the New Black too. It's so entertaining!

You look great in anything, but those jeans are certainly flattering to your touchey! I, too, cannot wait to see the Dexter finale, and Homeland is also my fav! Homeland is actually filmed in my small town in NC, and Banshee is filmed here also. Do you watch Banshee?

Of course you look cute in those jeans…you look cute in absolutely everything (except maybe blazers??) We can hardly speak about the final days of BB – cant imagine Sunday nights without it. An oh how I want happy endings for Dexter and Deb – seriously, HOW do they play opposite each other so convincingly when they recently divorced in real life?! Homeland will certainly fill part of the void, but *nerd alert* I'm still counting the days until Game of Thrones returns….when did TV get so much better than movies??!

Dexter just needs to be over, gah, it stopped being good after season 4. Don't buy into the Walter White tranformation…he was trying to SAVE Skyler in his phone rant on her. He knew the police were listening, and was setting it up so that she can play the defense of being the abused wife who had to go along with her big-bad husband's plans. Just look at his face when he's saying all those horrible things, it tears him up. Granted, he's done plenty of horrible things…but this wasn't one of them. I'm on the edge of my seat to see what happens in the end though! I think he's going to save Jesse…and the ricin is either for himself, or for the Nazi dude who killed Hank.

I'm going to be so lost when it's over! Now to wait for more Orange is the New Black and Game of Thrones!

  19. Those jeans look fantastic on you! I hate the waist gap and have a really hard time finding jeans that don't gap on me. We've been meaning to watch Breaking Bad and still haven't. What is wrong with us?! Oh and thanks for sharing about the craft boxes. I always need gift ideas for kids!

I'm pretty sure you'd look skinny in any pair of jeans!! My go to jeans are AG Stevie jeans, which are only carried at Anthropolgie. They are pretty much perfect skinny jeans in my opinion. And Breaking Bad, OH MY GOSH! If I don't have a heart attack by the end of watching that show then I'm good to go in every haunted house there ever was! And I have to think that the end is not going to be happy for Walter White. Really, how do you write a happy ending for a man who cooked meth, got his brother-in-law killed, killed 20+ people, and lost 80 million dollars along the way?

    Posted 9.20.13 Reply
  22. I will have to check out those jeans once I lose this bump! I stopped watching Dexter, but I figured I'd catch up once it ends. I'm like 2 seasons behind. I can't believe you are rooting against Walter. I can't hate him. I was so upset last episode. Seriously way too emotionally involved in a show.

    Posted 9.20.13 Reply
    • You can't hate him?!?!?!? It must be the pregnancy hormones making you sympathetic! 🙂 After what he did to Jesse, and his girlfriend, there's no going back for him!

      Posted 9.20.13 Reply
  23. The jeans def look awesome on you. I bought some but I'm not 100% sold on them. Have you washed/dryed them? Do they shrink up in length? When you wear them all day do they stretch out?

    Posted 9.20.13 Reply
    • Thanks, Kaley! I haven't washed them yet…was going to wash them before having them hemmed. If they do stretch out or shrink, you know nordstrom will always take them back! That's why I love shopping there…risk free! 🙂

  24. I am OBSESSED with Breaking Bad…we just watched all 6 seasons in less than a month #scarybuttrue I actually want Walter to have some redeeming outcome in the end…but not sure it's gonna happen! So crazy!!

    Posted 9.21.13 Reply
  25. I'm hoping that someday I can actually comfortably button jeans, never mind photograph myself! You look amazing and give me hope that, after two kids, I can someday look good! Also, my husband and I just started season 1 of Breaking Bad on Netflix. We're trying to limit ourselves to two episodes per night…
