Cheers to Friday! And not just any Friday, but for us it’s the start of Spring Break! WooHoo! We’re packing all our layers and coats, and headed north. After the puny Winter we had here in Texas, we’re actually looking forward to a week of snow and cold weather. If you’re interested to see where we land and what we’re up to, you can follow along on Instagram and Facebook, but make sure to come back here next week…I’ve got lots of great posts lined up!
Today it’s time for another Sugarplum Style…snapshots of my everyday outfits, created by mixing-and-matching items in my closet. And thanks to our sporadic weather, it’s a mixed bag of layers.
If I had to choose one item in my closet that makes the biggest impact on my everyday outfits, I’d say it’s a striped tee. Peeking out from under sleeves and hems, or layered under a jacket, it gives such a fun extra punch of pattern for every season. I have several favorites, including this one and this one.
Vests are great for transitioning to new seasons, when it’s still a little chilly, but not cold enough for a full coat.
Remember this combo from our recent {Date Night Style}? Pink + Red forever!
I think my cost-per-wear on this tunic is now down to pennies. #maggiephotobomb
Packing used to be my nemesis, but now I actually enjoy it! My tip? Lay everything out you think you want to take, and create several outfits using as few pieces as possible. This helps eliminate items that only work for one outfit (especially shoes!). And then snap a pic of each….that makes it easier to get dressed while on your trip. See more of my packing tips here.
Pink | Coral | Green | Aqua | Blue | Navy | Lilac | Black | Garment Rack
It doesn’t get much easier than a pullover sweater and scarf, but the leopard makes it anything but basic.
This outfit is the epitome of ‘Transitioning to Spring’ for me. You can see my other transition outfits and tips here, and stay tuned for a new post with more ideas soon!
This was another outfit creation while packing…I wanted to make sure I had enough options to justify bringing the extra pair of boots. But they’re rainboots with dogs…of course I was going to justify bringing them!
And thank goodness I did…you don’t see me complaining about the rain in Central Park! (My New York {Trip Report} coming up soon!)
I’ve also started creating fun outfits on Sunday nights…having something cute to wear has helped take the sting out of Mondays.
My travel style is always about comfort first, then style. These jeans feel and move like leggings, and the dark rinse makes them a little dressier. They’re also higher on the waist, so there’s no crack incidents when bending over for your bag! (Sidenote: Word on the street is they’re being discontinued, so grab them now if you’re interested!) (Sidenote to my Sidenote: Mom, you’d really like them, and they’re true-to-size!!)
Nothing jazzes a button-up more than a pearl cluster!
Date Night scheming with my favorite new heels! See them in action here.
A Texan in New York City….leave no skin uncovered! (I took the gloves off to snap a pic, and pulled the scarf away from my face so the store didn’t think I was robbing them!)
It’s never too soon to start thinking about swimsuits…especially when they’re this cute, and buy one get one half off!!! And my favorite straw fedora is back…and only $16! Which is great since I replace mine every year.
I hope these posts inspire you to create new combinations from your closet! The key isn’t to have more clothes, but to mix up what you do have in new and different ways. Except this tunic and these jeans, you need those. #trustme #enabler

Soooooooooooooooo many cute outfits today!!!!! Love that pink sweater on you, and really love the tip about the striped tee peaking out under sleeves! Love it!
Happy start of Spring Break! Those dog rain boots are just perfect, and I love all the gingham. Have a great trip!

I just saw gingham shirts in different colors at JC Penneys ! Going to get every color. Love your style! Come to Minnesota you could wear all your sweaters at once!
Looking forward to your NYC trip post. I love Gotham more than a girl should!
I love gingham shirts but tend to struggle with statement necklaces not showing enough (and therefore I feel like Cowgirl Sally). Do you have a trick? Have you ever used a necklace extender so you can wear them outside the collar?
Yesterday a recent post inspired me into my hot pink sweater, skinny dark wash jeans, and indigo print scarf. And hot pink coat. Pumped some color into my wardrobe…
Enough already! When are you coming down to Houston to take me shopping and revamp my entire closet?? Until then, I'll be waiting here in my momiform, drooling over all of your outfits.
Have a great trip!
Such a cool blog!
Such a cool blog!
Ok. i gotta ask. What kind of bra do you where with the cute hot pink top (in the date night outfit picture)?
