Sugarplum Style, Vol. 10

I’m not a fan of the expression ‘TGIF,’ because really, isn’t it just a given that we’re all relieved to see the work-week end?! I mean, whoever says, ‘Ugh, it’s Friday’?? But this has been one of those weeks where the cliche truly fits, so I’ll break my rule and say, ‘Thank goodness it’s Friday!’
And with it comes another round of Sugarplum Style. I can’t believe this series is almost a year old already…I’m thrilled you like it (or at least I think you do), and love sharing ideas of how I mix it up in my closet. Judging from these outfits, February was the month of the jean! Between the move and crazy weather, I didn’t realize just how often I reached for my favorite denim…for both work and weekends.
I jazzed up black skinnies and gingham with pearls and pumps. And I’d like to set the record straight…I’m too obsessed with Mexican food for that kind of thigh gap! I promise you it’s the angle of the camera!
Leopard Belt (similar) | Pearl Cluster Necklace (similar) | Watch
Cozy in cable knit and camo.
Cableknit Sweater (similar) | Striped Oxford Shirt (similar) | Camo Jeans (similar)
When in doubt, pair it with black and white stripes.
Striped Top (similar) | Vest (similar) | Distressed Jeans | Booties

I threw a little sass in our date night with some leopard heels and my favorite new bag.
Blouse | Flap Pocket Jeans | Leopard Pumps (similar)
There’s no rule that says you must save the bling for dressy occasions…it’s just as fun paired with casual outfits.
Plaid Shirt (similar) | Herringbone Vest (this one isn’t similar, but it sure is fun!)
Black Skinnies | Crystal Necklace (similar) | Booties
Oh hey, looks like I changed out of jeans at least once.
Brushstroke Dress | Leopard Pumps (similar) | Crystal Necklace (similar)
Colorblock Clutch (similar) | Watch

This was the first time I took my new bag out for a spin, and people literally stopped me on the street to ask about it. It’s going to be a fun addition to outfits this Spring and Summer!

Watercolor Scarf (similar) | Striped Tee | Distressed Jeans
I think more clothes should have dog faces on them, don’t you?!
Navy Sweater (similar) | Pink Gingham Shirt (similar) | Cream Vest (similar)
Layers: the more the merrier. In this case, four times the merry.
Striped Tee | Plaid Shirt (similar) | Hooded Denim Jacket (similar)
Red Puffer Vest (similar) | Jeans | Booties

Remember the shoot we did for BH&G at our old house? This was the outfit they chose for me to wear in the family shot…bright, and “not too season-specific” (since they don’t know when the story will run).

White JeansStriped Tee | Watercolor Scarf (similar)
Leopard Flats (similar but cuter) | Watch

And finally, I made my dark wash jeans more work-appropriate by adding a tailored jacket and crisp stripes. I also layered a white tank under to make the top appear longer. #nomuffintoppolicy

Khaki Field Jacket (similar) | Striped Hoodie | Jeans
Plaid Infinity Scarf (similar) | BootiesWatch
I hope these posts inspire new combinations from your closet! The key isn’t to have more clothes, but to mix up what you do have in new and different ways. Are you just about over Winter’s layers and fashion, or still can’t get enough? What items are you reaching for day after day? If you’re in jean-mode like me, here are a few affordable styles to consider.

And with Spring around the corner, now is a great time to scoop up great deals on Winter stuff for next year….Nordstrom just added a bunch of new sale items like this darling scarf for only $10, this cashmere sweater for under $40, and these suede boots 40% off.

You can catch up with past installments of Sugarplum Style here, or follow my everyday-style outfits on InstaGram. Make sure you’re following my Facebook page, too…that’s where I post deals, steals, sales and goodies! Happy weekend, lovebugs!

  7. I'm a huge fan of layers, but since I'm petite (and short waisted on top of it) but busty, layers make me look bulky. 🙁 If I was tall and busty, that wouldn't be a problem. #shortgirlproblems

Love the outfits you put together! I need more clothes though to create different looks. I don't have too much but I really hate clothes shopping. I love those $10 scarves.

I love the simple approach you take. More mixing instead of more buying, taking your pictures yourself… I used to follow several fashion blogs but lately I feel frustrated every time I visit them. They seem to have an unlimited in-flow of clothes, professional photographers, always different backgrounds… totally out of my league. But this, I can do. Thanks for sharing!!
