Screen Porch | The Design

Good morning from the land of jet lag, and buongiorno to those of you visiting from Kimberly at Swoon Worthy blog! We arrived home around midnight last night, but I’m up early to go get my babies from my mom…it was so odd not to see them when we came home, but also good to just face-plant into bed. #zzzzzzzz

I’ve never gone so long without seeing our kids, and I’m missing them so much it’s like a physical yearning. I remember traveling during their early years, and I’d literally be sprinting through customs, with tears in my eyes, just to see their faces. It was a little easier to leave once they got sassier older, though. 😉

Today I’m excited to be part of Lindsay’s awesome Summer Blog Hop, but thanks to the last-minute trip, it’s not exactly in the same capacity I’d hoped. My plan was to make over our screened porch, but I never got past the actual planning part. I figure if I go ahead and share it with y’all, I’ll be forced into action.

The screened porch was a big selling point for me when we found the house, and even though it doesn’t look like much now, I knew it will be a spot we’ll love year-round.

It’s a long, narrow space, so the furniture layout and options are fairly limited. We considered a small bistro table and chairs, but the porch is right off the Breakfast Room, and we already have a dining area on the patio…so three dining areas seemed a little overkill.

Once I spotted the Praiano Outdoor Chair though, I knew that was the direction we’d go…it’s a great looking chair, but I love how it also mimics the lines of our horizontal fence. The rest of it fell into place from there.

I guess I’m having a flamingo moment. But how can you resist a quirky, whimsical animal that happens to be pink?! It’s like my spirit animal!

Sidenote: Have you ever seen live flamingos…like at the zoo? Turns out they aren’t nearly as cute, or pink, in person. #dirtybird

I’m excited to get this space whipped into shape, it’s sat baron for far too long. And you know we’re serious about our patios around here.

I already have all the players for this makeover, so hopefully I’ll have Phase One for you in a week or so. That is, if I dig myself out from under laundry, and can pry myself away from snuggling the kids.

Next on the Summer Blog Hop is Brittany Makes, so be sure to hop over and see the magic that talented gal whipped up, and thanks again to Lindsay for including me!

  9. This post hits home in two ways.
1- We are about to leave our toddler for 10 days for our first long trip away from her and the anxiety and mom guilt is already crippling me. I'm sure I'll end up with a single shoe and only yoga pants or something due to my inability to focus on packing.
2- I've become obsessed with the Flamingo print out there right now! So friggin' cute!
Can't wait to see what you whip up for your porch!

    • I know how you feel, Stephanie, but just think about how much better mother/wife you'll be after some time away to recharge and reconnect with who you were before 'mother'. Plus how it will strengthen your marriage to have time alone together…and a good marriage is the best gift you can give your child!!! Have so much fun!! xo

I totally agree-flamingos at the zoo-GROSS! But, we saw flamingos at the aviary in Pittsburgh (where we live) and I was charmed! They were so perfectly pink and surrounded by these dark green plants-I was sold and in love forever.
