A Perfect December Day

It’s not really in my nature to slow down, take it easy or sit still. Especially when I have days off work. I always feel like I should be doing something, or tackling projects and laundry. But this week I’m challenging myself to just enjoy each moment as it comes, and treasure the holiday. My kids are 5 and 10, so I know the precious years of their Christmas excitement will be gone before I know it.

Instead of worrying about things still un-done, we enjoyed a leisurely day strolling through the mall, and gorgeous Neiman Marcus. No other store has more beautiful holiday displays.

Instead of rushing them to the next store, we lingered in every department, for snuggles and daydreams.

Instead of worrying about ruining dinner (and my jean size), we savored hot popovers with strawberry butter. Okay, several popovers.

Instead of pushing for Santa (Babygirl wants nothing to do with Santa’s lap), we giggled at the chance to meet Mrs. Clause.

Instead of worrying about traffic and schedules, we sat staring at the huge tree and ice skaters until everyone had their fill.

Instead of worrying about bedtimes, we treasured the darkness and all the neighborhood lights.

Instead of searching for the ‘perfect’ hostess gift, I tied a stylish free printable tag from Courtney and House of Fifty to an affordable bottle of wine.

It was a perfect day, with no stress, nagging or melt downs. Obviously every day can’t be this way, but I’m learning to treasure the ones that can.

Sounds like the perfect day! Treasure them, they go by quickly. Our oldest graduated from college last Tuesday and I still can't believe it!

Hey Cassie… this is so random, but your gold and black mirror also happens to be in crazy Kim's new "dream home" on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Not a very exciting story once I typed it… so there ya go!

Cassie, I guarantee your children will never remember the "perfect hostess gift" you provided to some random neighbour….but they will always remember having a lovely day with their Mum….watching skaters, sitting in toy piles and eating those yummy popovers. They are small for so brief a time. My boys are 10 and 15 now…we did this the other night too. Wandered around the mall….having treats and looking at Spiderman comics, watching aquatic frogs in vases.

Merry Christmas. From my little pond to yours 🙂 Your mermaid, Dharma
