{Outfit Inspiration} Shades of Blue

Home Decor and Fashion go hand-in-hand for me…like popcorn and milk duds, chips and queso, Kylie Jenner and plastic surgery (don’t even try to tell me those are her natural lips!)…there isn’t one without the other.

I’ve modeled room designs after outfits spotted in the J.Crew catalog, and often times, my outfits are created from rooms I’ve seen on Pinterest. It’s really about the color and pattern mixing…what works in home design, works equally well in fashion…and vise versa.

This is my fifth year creating {Outfit Inspiration} posts, so I thought I’d mix it up a bit, and add a little challenge to it! For each post, I’ll ask a favorite blogger to send me a few decor images, all reflecting a similar element, then I’ll create an outfit around them. And who better to kick off the updated series, than the crazy talented and stylish, Kristin Jackson of the Hunted Interior.

Hi Sugarplum | {Outfit Inspiration} Shades of Blue

I knew her inspiration images would be full of saturated color, and her gorgeous selections didn’t disappoint. Each has layers of intense blues, along with my favorite, a tiny pop of pink.

I usually wear this skirt in warmer months, but the dark jewel tones carry it in to Winter, as well. And we’re focusing on the gorgeous colors of my outfit, not the absence of color on my legs! I promise I’m alive and well, and not a zombie. We’ve had a surprise week of warmer temps, so I took advantage and ditched the tights.

I paired the outfit with these similar nude pumps to make my legs appear longer (I need all the help I can get!), and to not compete with the outfit. There’s so much going on already, bright shoes would have been a distraction.

I’m a sucker for a popped collar, so this jacket sings to me. I’ve had it for several years, but it’s still available here (and currently 30% off). You can wear several layers of the same color, as long as they each have a clear contrast in shade…like navy on light blue. The two patterns work together, too, since the scales are opposite.

We can’t have a photo shoot without a Maggie photobomb. Yes, we’ve become crazy-obsessed dog people since getting her.

So how’d I do with the challenge…think I matched the inspiration rooms pretty well? If this is the January Blues, I’ll take ’em!

Thanks, Kristin, for playing along! Be sure to check out her blog, Hunted Interior…it’s chock full of awe-inspiring projects and makeovers. My favorites of late are her Living Room and Backyard Oasis. And don’t even get me started on the moody space she just created for her stepson!
