Eenie Meenie Miney Rug

Thank you for the congrats on selling our house…there’s no doubt luck was on our side with this one! As cliche as it is, from the very beginning we’ve had the sense that this whole move was meant to be. Too many times I’ve let desires cloud my judgement, and ended up trying to shove a square peg in a round hole…it feels good to know the peg was round this time.

But there’s no packing going on yet…first up is the big photo shoot happening next week!! Not only have we been prepping our house for listing (see my tips here), but at the same time we were scrambling to complete the room makeovers for the magazines. I’ve got a lot to show you in the coming weeks…projects and updates for both houses, so it will be a little ADD around here!

Ever since painting the Dining Room pink and red, the gray rug no longer seemed to work in the space. But I wasn’t going to ditch a perfectly good rug just because it looked so-so in the room. But as luck would have it, the Family Room needed a rug, and the gray one from the Dining Room worked perfectly (I’ll show you soon)! Musical rugs saves the day. And oh darn, that left the Dining Room without a rug!

I went straight to my favorite rug source…Rugs USA…and started sorting through the options. I couldn’t decide if I wanted something to balance out the ceiling, coordinate with the walls, or tie in with the drapes. Fortunately I have an uber-talented friend, and she whipped together mock-ups showing my top five rug choices. Everyone should have an uber-talented friend, because as soon as she texted me these screen shots, I knew the clear winner. And it wasn’t my top choice originally!

So which rug do you choose for the room? And which rug do you think I chose?

1. Pink
2. Pink & Chartreuse
3. Navy
4. Navy Geometric
5. Navy Stripes
P.S. Rugs USA is having one of their crazy sales right now…so hop over if you’re in the market!

P.P.S. I get a lot of questions on my #SugarplumStyle posts on InstaGram and Facebook, and sometimes I don’t see them all!! I hate when I miss them, but did you know you can Shop My Feed directly from my sidebar? I always try to link the exact item I’m wearing, or something really similar. xo. c

  1. Well, I love pink, so I sort of hope you chose #1…but #5 is also very cohesive and complementary of the design of the room.

  7. Wow! Tough choice! I'm on the notify list for #1 when it gets back in stock, so I really thought I'd like that one the best. I actually love #3 best in your space though. They all are great, can't wait to see what you chose, all would look wonderful!

3 or 4 – Navy ones. I like the balance of navy with pink. And the navy grounds the room. option 5 seems a bit jarring since the lines are offset.

    Good luck!

We have the multi-colored version of the navy geometric in our living room (and actually had our carpet installer sew two of them together b/c we needed a larger rug than the 8×10) and we LOVE it. Great color, good quality, great price. Do it!!

  12. Number 3 is my fav! I've never seen the blue version! I love my over dyed rug from Rugs USA! I have the teal one in my office.

  19. #3 for me! It brings out the navy in the drapes and complements the pink walls and red ceiling…and in my humble opinion, (A) #1 and #2 are pretty, but too much pink and if they are off in real life (cause lord knows the colors in pictures on the website are not always the color when you get the rug), could clash big time; and (B) #4 and #5 are too busy and make the room feel a bit chaotic.

I vote for 4 it makes the room pop, but the piano lamp shade would need to change, a simple fix. Five is nice but the off-set stripes makes it look like you sewed two rugs together yourself. Which rug is going to work in your next house is the question?

  43. My first thought was #3, but more I looked at them I really like #5. It brings in the blue color from the curtains, but overall feels lighter than all the other ones.

Do you need to pick something that will go into your new home??? Does that bear any relavance. Are you buying a rug just for the photo shoot? or is the company lending it to you? Do you plan to sell it after the photo shoot? Just curious and thanks for any additional information.
