{Outfit Inspiration} Pinstripes & Floral

If you’ve been reading this blog for a minute any length of time, you know I don’t shy away from color. In my home or wardrobe. I also love to mix patterns. So you can likely imagine my joy when I can mix brightly colored patterns!

But I know many of you feel uneasy pairing bright colors or mixing bold patterns. Fashion is about confidence, and if you’re not comfortable in your outfit, no matter how chic it is, then you won’t feel confident or stylish. I can’t tell you how many times someone says to me, ‘You look great…there’s no way I could pull that off!’ And to that, I say, ‘Baloney!’

Boldness doesn’t come quickly, but usually in baby steps. This outfit is a good example of baby steps…dipping your toe in the pattern-mixing world.

The pinstripe on this top is so subtle, that it barely registers. But up close, it gives the outfit an added zing that a solid-colored shirt wouldn’t. Another baby step is to keep your outfit to a single bold piece, in this case I chose a top in a neutral color found dominantly in the skirt.

My bag and accessories add personality, but are neutral enough to still allow the skirt to be the star of the show. I love the mix of pearls with a masculine-style shirt…but most of my outfits tend to have a touch of priss.

Aren’t my kids becoming quite the photographers?! After four years of outfit posts, they’re finally getting in to it! Granted I still only get about 3 minutes and 12 shots…but I’ll take it! What is your comfort zone when it comes to bright colors and bold patterns? I encourage you to take some baby steps in a bolder direction…you’d be surprised at all the new outfit options that your closet holds!

  4. Thanks to you I have tried somethings I would have never thought of combining….yesterday I wore a striped dress, solid cardigan with a floral scarf and I felt so "in style". Love that your kids are taking pix….I've been having mine do the same and am getting fewer eye rolls each time I ask. 🙂
