{Outfit Inspiration} Colored Pants

Happy first day of Spring! We’ve had the puniest of Winters, but I’m still ready to ditch the black tights in favor of lighter fabrics and brighter colors. I’ve fought the trend so far, but I think this year I’ll take the leap in to the world of colored pants.

They are literally everywhere and at every price point, from Forever 21 and Old Navy, to J.Crew and Express. Since I’m not sure how colored jeans and I will get along, I’ll probably start with an inexpensive pair. And while my closet is full of bright colors, and I don’t shy away from mixing vibrant hues and patterns, for some reason I feel like taking baby steps with this trend.

Pairing the pants with a neutral top, like black, white, gray or navy, will tone them down.

The next step to adding more color could be a bright scarf. I like how this cutie balances out the green pants on bottom with a colorful scarf on top.

I have a regular 8-5 job, so I have to walk a fine line between creative fun, and business appropriate. These pretty ladies transitioned bright pants for the workplace perfectly!

Eventually I hope to work up the nerve for bright on bright! So fun!

Somehow I know my favorite look will be pairing them with stripes.

If a proper princess is doing it, so can we!

So what do you think…have you taken the leap in to colored pants and jeans, or do you plan to this Spring?

    I haven't yet…. but I love color, so I'm contemplating a turquoise pair.

I just feel so "out there" wearing brightly colored pants…. like they're going to make my butt look huge or something. LOL

  3. I just purchased a pair of red pants from Gap. I love them. I decided to wear them for some family pictures (may or may not have been the best move… I guess we'll see when I get the pictures back). I think you'll pull them off perfectly 🙂

  4. I also got a pair of red ones from Gap. I'm pretty excited to break them out for the first time tomorrow! I'm loving the orange color Gwyneth is wearing too.

  5. I saw a women my age the other day with a pair on and she looked very cute. She was wearing a royal blue pair with a black top and flats. I made a mental note to try a pair for myself. So glad to pack away the sweaters and start thinking about spring attire. Now to get some color on this pastey body….

Love this post and can't wait to see what outfits you come up with. I bought a bright green pair that I haven't even worn yet, but I'm already fighting the urge for coral. (I will probably lose.)

  7. I always feel like colored pants and jeans with bling on the back pockets just draw attention to my arse and make it look bigger. :b I do like the colored pants though. Used to have some…need to see if they are still in the closet.

I am just like you, I was scared to buy some but when you said to pair it with white/black/gray to help tone it down, then I'm game! Now what color would be the best one to start with?? I can't decide and since we are both taking baby steps I want to know what you would do?!

  9. I have finally warmed up to it . . have some kelly green pants. The funny thing is this all reminds me of when Guess was so popular when I was in fourth and fifth grade. Had pale pink jeans! Ok, maybe I had the matching pale pink jean jacket as well. Maybe.

  11. I think this look is so cute! Especially with a more neutral top or stripes. Now if only my legs were toothpicks like the princess's. Sigh.

I really want a pair of red ones I have been drooling over at the Gap. I know I will wear than at home or out and about but my uber conservative 8-5 office gig won't appreciate them.

  22. I'd do green or blue, but I don't think I could pull off any other colors. You'd look so great in pink paired with navy – the stripes are definitely calling your name!
