You guys sure know how to give a girl the big-head! Thank you so much for your sweet comments about my new haircut…they totally made my week. Many of you liked it so much you pinned it…that was kind of weird seeing my head pop up all over Pinterest!
Last week I sang the praises of our new Keurig, and showed you how we keep it all organized. But once that area was nice and tidy, I realized just how cluttered the corner next to the stove had become. Not for long though…this was the easiest, fastest organizing job I’ve done yet!
Like most of you probably do, I like to keep the frequently used utensils, oils and spices out for easy access. I started by using a small platter to contain the oils, and cute containers for the utensils.
But that collection continued to grow (especially after this trip, which I still haven’t finished blogging about, by the way!), and pretty soon it was a cluttered mess.
I stumbled across this basket, and knew it’d be perfect. The bottles wouldn’t sit straight because of the woven bottom (TWSS), so I lined it with a piece of $2 plexiglass from the craft store. You can have the picture-framing department cut it, or simply use a sharp Xacto knife and ruler to score, then snap it.

Captivating photo, I know. |
Now everything is nicely corralled inside the basket, but still at my fingertips when I’m cooking.
This basket works great because it’s wide enough to hold everything, but not tall so I can easily see what’s inside. And the handles make it easy to move if I need extra counter space.
I love the woven texture next to the sleek glass tiles and granite.
It’s a simple update, but a big improvement! How do you keep your counters from getting cluttered?
I am so happy to see this. I have hundreds of kitchens pinned and all but maybe three of them have nothing but a pretty soap dispenser and some fresh fruit on their counter tops. We really cook in our house so we have a lot that has to stay out permanently. Love the basket idea. I keep our produce out in a big basket just like that one!
And your hair really did look fab! I texted the side view of the before and after (after she fixed your previous cut but before you went wild with the fun layers) to my stylist to copy. Consider me a cat. A copycat 🙂
Love your subway tile backsplash!
I saw a basket like that on pinterest the other day. I really need to get one!
I love that basket. We have one in the kids bathroom. Unfortunately, it is now covered in toothpaste.
PS> I was watching RHOC last night and saw your haircut on Alexis Bellino: http://pinterest.com/pin/556827941398362759/
Wow! What a difference! It looks great!!! Cute and sassy hair AND an organized kitchen counter. You've got it all! 🙂
I coralled mine in a round tray and placed it on one of those IKEA wooden lazy susan! It works like a charm too!
what a smart idea! I've been looking for a shorter basket but I was unsure about the way everything would sit. The plexiglass is so smart!
Love it! I have a large lazy susan that we use. Love that I just have to give it a quick turn to find what I am looking for.
love an organized kitchen…. i sooo need more counter space! love your backsplash!
The plexiglass is such a great idea! I use a large basket on my coffee table sometimes and the candles are wobbly…now I know how to fix that problem. Thank you! ~Peggy in TN
Cute idea!!!! I definitely think that the plexi is needed.

I corral small things on a tray in the kitchen and bathrooms. It looks so much neater.
Love this! I've actually been wanting to get a basket for our bathroom counter so I can keep all my stuff out, since let's face it I'm not going to put it back under the cabinet every single day, but have it still look organized.
I recently did something similar beside my stovetop as well. It's funny how just corralling the stuff into a tray or on a plate makes it look more uniform. Love your backsplash, by the way!
I try to keep as much off my counters as possible; that's just me. For easy access, I have lots of items hanging on hooks inside my cabinet doors!

What a great idea to add the plexiglass to the basket!
I was working on a hand and dish soap tray for my kitchen earlier this evening. Fun coincidence!

Ooh so pretty! I love how it is super functional but also adds a nice decor element too. Great job again, Miss Cassie! Hope you're having a wonderful week!

Love it! And your pretty hair!!
I love all of the cute containers that you used! I love the look of this arrangement. It reminds me of one of those trays people put on their bar carts to hold liquor bottles, except yours is the food version! 🙂

omgosh!where in the world did u et that flamingo tray?! I luv it. I coral my junk in an old Heinz pearl peas tin (utensils) on a older 1960's metal tray – I have a thing or trays hence the flamingo thing, haha!
I wish I could keep my counters from being cluttered. I was literally thinking just think afternoon that my kitchen island is a huge magnet for junk. It's ridiculous. I love the basket idea though. I definitely need to do something like that so my cooking items are within reach but still look presentable. Thanks for the great idea!

I have been on the hunt at the thrift stores for a similar basket. I, too, have the ceramic tray for oils and spices, but it is a mess! I love the idea of plexi glass on the bottom of the tray. Too clever! 🙂
