Hi friends, and happy Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend, that felt twice as long as it really was. Does that even make sense?! You know how some weekends feel longer than others, even though most all of them are only two days? I’m rambling. It’s the bleach talking.
After all that teasing, I’m a little nervous to show you my new hairdo. Hopefully it’s not a big anti-climactic womp-womp! My gorgeous friend we visited in Nashville, also happens to be a rockstar hair stylist. (Ever heard of Kelly Clarkson or Sheryl Crow?) And the perk of staying with her for a week, is a series of sessions in her chair until it’s perfect. I think she nailed it…this haircut is so me, and I love it!
I’ll start from the beginning. Obviously, after a year of Mr. Sugarplum doing my color (yes, he really does…DIY all the way, baby), she needed to correct even out a few shades with a fat highlight. I got to satisfy my baby fix at the same time. She wasn’t impressed.
My color was better, but we discovered my ends were jacked! A bad haircut (from someone in Texas), left me with uneven length, and wispy ends.
Here’s a tip for you…unless you have Amanda-Seyfried-hair (I do not), NEVER let anyone texturize or ‘take the weight out’ of your hair. It’s fancy talk for combing a razor through your hair, removing half of it…essentially f#%ing you up! Your ponytail will look like toddler-hair if you do. Exhibit A:
So she worked her magic and left me with this really cute cut…healthy, layered, and even. It didn’t even look like the same hair!
I lived with it for a day (since we have 5 kids between us, hair-time started around 10pm), then we decided if we were going to cut it, we might as well really cut it. Mr. Sugarplum has been after me to make it short and sassy for awhile, and I don’t trust anyone but my friend, so we went for it.
I basically style it the same as before, but it has more shape and sass to it. I’m stilling figuring it out, hence why it looks a little helmety in some of these pics.
I prefer it disheveled like she styled it, but haven’t mastered that look, yet.
It’s just below the nape of my neck, but with the side pieces so much longer, I can still pull it back.
I have a lethal cowlick, so the side-swoop bang will always remain.
I go through long hair phases, but I always come back to short. I think it’s so much fun, and there are so many things to do with it. And hopefully it will break me of my ponytail rut.
I hit the friend trifecta with this girl….amazing, funny and crazy-talented!
I love it! And Mr. Sugarplum looooooooves it. #knowwhatImsaying
Have you done a major haircut lately? Does your man prefer your hair long or short? What do you think of my new ‘do!?!
Cassie! Your hair looks FABULOUS!!! I love, love, love it!!!
So so so cute! Love the color too! I would totally card you for buying wine at the grocery store you young hot mama!
Gorgeous, Cassie! I flip flop back and forth between short and long. But this asymmetric bob is my favorite short cut and it looks FANTASTIC on you!
love the new do!!!!
Lauren
Love your new hair!!! But then I've always loved it. Can't believe your husband does your color.
SO cute and sassy, you can totally rock that style!
You hair looks FANTASTIC! Totally love it! It's sassy, just like you! 😉
Your hair looks amazing!
Looks fantastic!! I tend to gravitate towards shorter hair too… Mine is right at my shoulders right now and I'm already dying to cut it! I'm jealous that you can style that yourself. How on earth do you curl the back?!
I absolutely LOVE it! So much, I'm taking a picture to my hairstylist (after I sold her for "texturizing" my hair). I've grown my hair out after having a pixie for about 5 years. I loved how sassy and trendy I felt with short hair but my hubby wasn't into it. I think this cut would be a good mid-point we would both love.

I love your hair and I have the exact same cut that I just did. I love it and so does my husband. He wishes I'd go back super short but not yet. Happy Monday!
I love the cut and color! Post wedding I will be doing a short cut like this, I already am over letting my hair grow out.
I have my stylist texturize (with thinning shears) and layer the crap out of my hair but I have CRaZY thick hair (and lots of it), but mine has never done what yours did! I couldn't believe that picture, that's nuts. Kudos to you for showing the pictures before and during your transformation! Your new cut is cute and looks really good on you.
Looks Great!
so fun!
Cute. I always go short for the summer and grow out in the winter. My cut is like yours but a little shorter. Short hair is so fun!
I like it quite a lot. Mine is similar, only the angle is more drastic and the back is stacked. It's like having the best of both worlds…length in the front, but none of the hot mess on the neck.
Question…did your husband highlight your hair or do all-over color?
Love it! So you. I can totally relate to the whole texturizing thing!! Both my youngest and I had FINALLY gotten our hair to grow. The last time we went for cuts, our now former stylist, layered and then texturized the crap out of the back on both of us. Here's the first clue…we have a lot of hair, but it is SUPER baby fine. It looked just like your pic!!! AWFUL. So, we found out our old stylist is back as well as our colorist and switched. While baby girl only got her color done (right now she won't let anyone near her hair with a pair of scissors she is so mad), I cut almost 4 inches off mine. More of a chin length bob, and now I am ready to go even shorter. I too love mine shorter in the back, longer in the front. I so want to figure out how to style it similar to yours so I am not drying it EVERYDAY!!
Hey hot mama. SO cute. I love the short look on you. Mine used to be super short and messy, but have been long for years now. You look smashing, my dear.
I LOVE your hair!! Too bad she's not in Dallas or I would totally have her do my hair! Mine is long and I'm in the pony tail rut… Ready to go short again!
I'm using your pic as my inspiration! 🙂 Happy Monday! xoxo
I LOVE it! It is adorable.
Yes, I recently cut my hair shorter as well. My daughter was getting married and wanted me to "grow it out" and finally I just said to her "it doesn't look good!" So I've got it cut and haven't looked back.
I love it so much! I always prefer my hair short, but grow it out every year so that I can have the fun of doing a dramatic chop. haha.
LOVE it!!! Can I borrow Mr. Sugarplum to talk to my husband? My hubs HATES short hair on me and it's kind of our thing to argue about it every few months. You know, when I want to hack it all off and have it be sassy and cute.
I'm currently trying to grow mine out. My hair grows super fast so it isn't taking long. But, I kind of hate it. I mean…there is just something about fun short hair that makes me look more put together. I asked my husband what I should do and he said, "It's your hair do what you want. But, you could go short again." I think I shall. I miss a nice angled bob. It is so easy to do and makes me feel much more put together.
Love your hair! Looks amazing!
Love the new do! It is classy and sassy at the same time! I would love to chop my hair too!
Love it! This cut looks soooo good on you! I wish I looked good with short hair so I didn't have to run around with a brown mop on my head all the time.
OH MY GOSH, it looks GREAT!!! I wish I could get my hair that blonde!
I love your hair!! I have always wanted to fix my short hair like that but never seem to figure it out. Yours looks great!!
Cassie – your hair fits you perfectly! Keep rockin' it!
Love it! Super sassy and sexy! That cut totally suits you!
It looks great! It really suits you. I've been in a ponytail for what seems like a year now!
Lookin' GOOD, pretty lady! I have naturally curly, combination texture hair–some of it's coarse, some is pretty fine. Plus, there's loads and loads of it. But I had a haircut very similar to this, and it was definitely my fave as far as ease and funkiness, etc.
Love it on you!
You are such a hottie! Love the hair SO much! I have been growing mine out for two years now and you are making me want to say, "Heck with it! Give me the Cassie cut!"
xoxo!
Jen
Your cut looks so cute! I just chopped a little over 12 inches last week and I feel like a new lady! I still haven't figured out what to do with it. It's such a learning process!
Sassy, sexaay, & so stylish!! Hair trifecta in my book. Wish I could pull off short, sassy hair. #givemethe"Cassie"
Adorable on you, Cass!
Fab-u-lous! It looks beautiful on you. And you're right–we are hair twins now. 😘👯
I LOVE it! I just got a hair cut today myself. Short with tons of layers. A while back, a stylist "accidentally" totally screwed up hair and I had to cut it all off into a chin length bob. Then it grew out some and I looked like a bell…ding-dong. So today, I brought a photo and had it all layered up. Most days I miss my long hair, but I'm enjoying it short for the summer. Who knows, maybe I'll even learn to have fun with it and keep it this way.
You look fabulous!

I love the haircut! I just got mine cut about 3 weeks ago almost exactly like it! It's amazing and definitely sassy 😉
Love the hair!! It looks great!!

Totally sassy!! and sexy (hey, Mr Sugarplum??) It one hundred percent suits you, girl! LOVE it! My hair is the longest it's ever been right now usually I waiver between shoulder length to bob'ish like "the cassie". I am just too scared now cause I need my ponytail, I'm such a MOM!!!
THAT is darling!!! It is totally YOU!!! Good work!!!
OH my I love it!! It looks so good on you!!
I love the new hair!! The color is amazing too! Nick wants me to go short again, but I've worked so hard growing this mess out! Also I like my top knot too much!
LOVE IT! you look amazing. who doesn't need a little sass in their life?
Your hair is so cute – and perfect for this hot Texas weather! Mine has been short for several years now, but I keep it all one length. Hubby really doesn't really like it short – he's a long hair lovin' man, as is my son. But here in TX it's just too dang hot most of the time and I've reached a certain age where even in the winter I'm hot… So, hubby knows that if I'm cooler, I'm happier and everyone's happier!
Three words- Hot Mamma Jamma!!! It's seriously adorable and the color is uh-mazing. My favorite part is the perfectly disheveled curls. Totes sassy! Josh likes my hair long, but he sort of can't stand my bangs. Whoops. I say they hide my forehead wrinkles though, so they're staying. 😉
I live in Nashville…please tell who/where your friend works! Thank you!
Love-love-love the hair cut, you look great!! I recently cut mine too, like a whole foot!! You can check it out here:

PS: I didn't notice I had a huge gray hair pointing out until it was too late, ha!!
PS: Where is your pink dress on the first picture from? I love it!
Thanks!
Thanks Marcela!! that's actually an old JCrew top.
Totally sassy and agree with all the others – you can totally rock that style! Absolutely love it!!
Fun cut! On our recent rainy vacation, my hair was just a hot mess. I was ready for a major change. Add to that my 20-year reunion coming up right after vacation, and I immediately started researching the best cuts and colors for my face shape and skin tone. The day before my reunion I colored my mousy brown hair into a lovely Amy Adams red. I absolutely love it! And I'm working on growing my hair longer, because it's been chin-length for about 10 years. Change is fun and I know it brought a new spark to my confidence!
absolutely LOVE the new 'do Cassie!!!! And what an awesome friend! Also, I have to know… where are those adorable green, herringbone-looking earrings from? I must get a pair!
Thanks Ashley! the earrings are from Old Navy!! 🙂
xo. C
Just totally awesome! Really, it looks great – isn't it nice to be able to get your hair done by someone you trust? I've been jack-up a few times myself (some of which is still growing out! 🙁 ) love the look – it's sassy like you 😉
Stunning! You look beautiful Cassie!
And I love your pink and white dress!!
Annie XO
gorg!! i'm really a super short hair girl but something lately has me yearning for a longer 'do just like what you have! I think i'm gonna take it and show my girl and see if I can get a cute 'grow it out' cut. plus momma's got some bad roots and i'm that age that i'm starting to see more gray than natural color roots, lol!
Does your friend have a salon? I live just south of Nashville! I seriously just had someone thin my hair out…yikes!!
Yes she does!! Send me an email and I'll get you her number…it's a home salon (in her basement, but so so chic!), so I don't want to broadcast her number publicly. But I'm happy to give it to individual readers. 🙂
