Holy crappola….it’s Week 5 of {One Room Challenge}! Which means that I have less than a week to finish the final 87 details, style it, shoot pictures, and write the post. Oh yeah, and go to work everyday! #NOWisthetimetopanic But the plus side is, we’re a week away from having a bedroom retreat more amazing that I could have hoped!
Let’s recap for those just popping in, or dozed off….we recently moved, so I had a whole house of rooms from which to choose for the ORC, but Mr. SP and I decided to put ourselves first this time (as opposed to last, like our previous home)…so I’m tackling our Master Bedroom!
Week One I showed the Before shots and room dimensions…and Week Two was all about the Design and Floor Plan. At Week Three, I revealed our crossover to the dark side, and I was thrilled
to hear ya’ll loved the dark walls as much we do! Last week, Mr. UPS was busy delivering nightstands, pillows, and new bedding. It was a good week.
Okay, now that we’re all on the same page…let’s get after Week Five, which was both exciting, and counter-productive. But first, let’s swoon over the most glorious drapes that ever were. Drapes devoid of hem-tape and crooked seams. Drapes with actual lining and pinch pleats sewn in!
That’s right, the Sugarplum house has custom window treatments! #Imasshockedasyou
I chose Tonic Living‘s Lulu Leopard because, well duh…just look at it! It’s playful, chic, and somehow, not trendy, and looks stunning on our dark walls. Not only did we want to showcase the bay of windows (see the layout here), but we wanted them to be operational…so we sent Tonic Living our window and wall measurements, and they delivered the most beautifully-crafted panels, customized just for our space.
Now for the hiccup. Our rockstar contractor came by this weekend to install the Kitchen faucet (which means the final reno update is coming next week, followed by the reveal!!). Mr. SP knew I was stressed about us trying to hang those six panels on seven different wall angles, not to mention, cut and anchor the rods…so the dear sweet man had our contractor help him do it while I was away.
He was so excited to show me…and I was equally thrilled by both the project, and his gesture. Well, mostly his gesture. Turns out two straight men don’t know a lot about hanging window treatments…so we’ve got a few fixes to do.
1) Raise the rods about 2-inches so the drapes don’t puddle the floor as much.
2) Extend the rods on the two outside windows, so the panels frame the window, not cover it. We had to order another set of rods for this, since they already cut these too short. Fingers crossed they arrive in time!
3) Reposition the rings so each panel completely covers the wall between windows.4) Remove blinds and putty/paint. (The drapes are lined with black-out, so blinds are no longer necessary.)
The bulk of the work is done, so hopefully it’s fairly easy to finish them out correctly. I already know they’ll be stunning! I’ll follow up with a separate how-to post for installing hardware for bay windows soon.
I love how the drapes will frame the sitting area.
Okay, now let’s move on to the rest of the progress and updates.
We lack a full-length mirror in our bathroom or closet, but I don’t mind because I love the look of a large, leaning mirror in the bedroom. This beauty just arrived from Arhaus. (I discovered it on my Field Trip.)
It’s gorgeous, especially against the dark walls (like pretty much everything else), but it may be a tad short to just lean, so I might have to hang it, or find a new spot.
I found this mirror on clearance and am trying to decide if it fits. I’m accustomed to having something over the bed, so that space is feeling naked to me right now!
I know ceiling fans aren’t aesthetically pleasing…but there’s just no way around them here. We swapped out the dark, heavy one for a simple all-white design…so at least it blends with the ceiling.
I love these framed book pages of colorful doors from our previous bedroom, but not sure if they’ll have a home in here. I’m really excited for the new pieces on order from Minted…specifically this one and this one. And I’m not sure if it will work in this room, but I had to have this one, too.
I may hang a gallery wall here…or stack two large prints. Still not sure. And clearly my makeshift office still needs a new home. And the switchplates need to be painted.
And finally, my custom pouf arrived from Loom Decor. That’s right, custom…you can create your own with any fabric and piping combination! Prepare to spend hours playing on their site!
Whew…not a bad week considering I was out-of-town for several days. But you can guess where I’ll be this weekend!! Send me some good luck mojo…and wine!
I really can't get over those gorgeous drapes! All of it is coming together beautifully, and I'm sure you work well under pressure š
Cassie…..ahhhh your drapes!!! I love them!! And I so love that your hubs and contractor hung them for you! #goodtryguys The dark walls with the white trim and bedding are so delicious and I can't wait for your big room reveal next week! PS where'd you find that cute little side table next to your Tarjay chairs? I have one of those same chairs for my ORC room too but can't find the perfect low little table for it. It's driving me nuts!
so playful and dramatic! I can't wait to see the reveal!
This room is going to be SERIOUSLY FAB!!!!!!
i was dying over the instagram peek!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE those curtains!! They are amazing! I can't wait to see the finished room- can tell I'm going to want on just like it!
Awww, how adorably sweet of Mr. SP. Too bad it didn't work out quite as he had envisioned. Sometimes it really IS the thought that counts!
So pretty! And bless your husband and rock star. Before you take down the blinds be sure that you are fine with having a completely dark room anytime you want privacy. I did this and regretted is so I went and bought another set of more sheer curtains to pull across the windows for when I want privacy but don't want to shroud myself in darkness and have to turn all the lights on.
Those curtains really are dreamy, love how things are coming along.
I love how those curtains look against that wall color and those 2 chairs. Very glamorous!
beautiful curtains! i love the chairs too! xo jillian – cornflake dreams
Thrilled to see the final product. It is looking fab. Apparently, going away helps with our progress. Love the curtain fabric.
This is why I love you. That white fan. You so could have went for a big chandelier. But you chose function. Love it all so far!
Girl yes…it's not cute to wake up a sweaty mess! š
Cannot wait to see the final reveal! Love following your blog!!!

I toured all the other "competitors" and you and Jen at IHeartOrganizing are the best by leaps and bounds! The others just seem like professional designers hiring out another job. You are actually doing the work yourselves and are so much more relatable and real. Thank you for all your inspiration. You and the room are amazing Cassie!
Thank you, Anje. This is a lot more work than I could have imagined…I know all the participants are working so hard for their incredible spaces! I can't wait to see them all!
Your room is coming together fabulously! It looks even better in person! š
Curtains are GORGEOUS and the dark walls look awesome! You are fortunate to have a big, bright room that can pull it off
The drapes are just fabulous and it is SO sweet that Mr SP hung them for you while you were away! Personally the puddling doesn't bother me and if you bring them up 2 more inches I think the rods might be too close to the ceiling. I agree with Kelly I would keep the blinds till you live in the room. You may not want the total darkness the drapes give you when all you want is a little privacy from the back yard. I love the art work you selected from Mint. Especially the last one, from the picture anyway it seems to really tie in the blue chair. While I do like the gold mirror, just not sure if it's big enough for the space. It was hard to tell from the pictures. Can't wait for next week to see the reveal!
Thanks so much for the great tips, Deborah!!
The drapes are beautiful! It's inspiring me to do something similar in my twin girls' nursery. The dark walls are divine–and that's inspiring me to paint my master bedroom a dark dramatic color like a shade of black!
Love the dark walls with the light furniture! And the window treatments are gorgeous!!!
Love the drapes you chose! And you should check out Kate Rileys post on Ceiling fans!
I loved her post! Then again, I love everything she posts!! She's one talented mama! xo
The room looks great! Can you post a link for the curtain rod. We have a similar curved wall in our house.
Yes…it's all from Tonic Living. The greatest thing for these type of windows is their elbow bracket! I'll do a full post on it soon…in the meantime, here's the link:

It's all looking so wonderful! I can't wait to see the final reveal! Also, I hope you have a future post planned on the closet we got a glimpse of in the ceiling fan pictures… š it's all so exciting!
Yes ma'am…I'm hoping to share all the nooks and crannies of this house! Eventually! š
I'm playing catch up here… but loving the color of the room! Makes me want to go paint a dark wall now in our bedroom! I'm also loving the drapes… perfection. Changing out the fan so it blends in with the ceiling is a great idea. Can't wait to read future posts on how it all comes together!
Awesome job !!! Love it !
I love it! Have you considered hanging the mirror on the wall and putting a small bench under it? I think that would make it seem intentional.
No, but I love that idea!!! xo
You are brave to let your husband attempt a drapery hanging project. He actually did a fine job, minus the fixes. Looking really good.
Wow, gorgeous curtains, and I LOVE those dark walls!!
Wow! I love everything you've done in here! The drapes are spectacular – wine en route! š
Ha Ha…..grrrrrr "thanks honey for trying to hang the curtains"…..ha ha! For some reason that cracked me up. They are beautiful and I can see that….. hung correctly or not! You are gonna wow us so I am ready!
OB – SESSED … love every single thing about this room and this ORC … can you tell me where you got the side table in between the chairs? LOVE IT ALL
Thanks Anon!! š That little table was a $20 gem I found at Ross! Can you believe it?!
That curtain pattern!! So freaking fabulous!! xxx
Where are your curtain rods from? They are gorgeous!
LOVE the draperies, such an awesome choice, you know that pattern is going to be out of stock in not time, right?!! I would have hyperventilated if I thought my hubs was hanging our drapes! š
I love love love the drapes & that custom pouf is fabulous, cannot wait for the reveal!
Gonna be amazing! I purchased the same chair in indigo for our "new" to us bedroom. Love it, and such a great price.
I love the drapes and the rods used for your bay windows. We have similar design in our bedroom. Where did you find the rods? They look like exactly what I need!
Hi where is the table with the slipper chairs from?
