{One Room Challenge} The Living Room Reveal!

You guys never cease to amaze me…I was completely blown away by your supportive and enthusiastic comments for yesterday’s Behind-the-Scenes post about my Redbook Cover Shoot! I’m still grinning like a goon from all the love…thank you!

Now let’s get to the matter at hand…the reason you’re all here today! Is it {One Room Challenge} reveal day, or Christmas Day…because frankly, I can’t tell the difference right now! I’m so beyond excited to share our new room with you…and even more excited to curl up with a cup of wine…I mean coffee, did I say wine? (it’s been a crazy 6 weeks!)…and check out the other 19 participant’s rooms today, and all the linking participants tomorrow. It’s going to be inspiration and eye-candy overload this week, and I can’t wait!

Let’s recap for those popping in for the first time…we tackled the ‘formal’ Living Room for this go-round (we did our Master Bedroom in the previous ORC). My goal was to create the feel of a jewel-box, with deep colors, lots of glam, and an element of drama, and I collaborated on the room with the most talented girl I know!

Week 1 I showed the Before shots and room layout, Week 2 featured the Design, Plans, and a big fat Hiccup, Week 3 was major Demolition Zone, Week 4 things got Light & Bright, and last week was all about the Navy Blue Tuxado! #whew

I’m not going to sugarcoat it…things got a little crazed, and up until two days ago, I still wasn’t sure I’d have a finished room in time. But all the late nights and fast food dinners were worth it, because they led to a room I can’t believe is in my house! How about I stop yapping and show you our new Living Room?

I’m warning you though, the number of pictures is excessive, but then again, subtlety isn’t really my game.

Cassie, this room is some kind of wonderful. It is a lot to take in, but the side of the room my eye immediately gets and is wowed by is the secretary between the windows. The art and all of it is perfect. I really like how elevated the arcs over each window look due to your choices. Is that the same sofa that used to match your family hand me down rug? Am I a jerk if I say I'd love to see some of that amazing acid yellow on the Hague blue shelves? In a few weeks (or months!) of course, after things settle. Because whew. This was a lot of hard work for you. Cheers!

I love the little things on the shelves that express your personality!! So cute! The only thing I don't like is the picture on the shelves, I know it's chic and I see it everywhere but I just don't like or understand it!!

Your room is really amazing. But just to prove I looked at ALL the pictures – your adorable heels are Jessica Simpson (I can read the label on the insole), and I was so hopeful they'd be affordable, but you linked to Sam Edelman ones which, while not terrible at $66, are over my "just for fun" shoe limit. I don't suppose the ones you bought are still for sale?

    Posted 11.13.15 Reply
    • Thanks so much! yes, my shoes are actually Jessica Simpson, but are a few years old and no longer available. I linked a similar pair, but I'd suggest checking Kohls or Target for more affordable options, too! xo

  148. THERE IS NOTHING MORE THAN CAN BE SAID! Just, "Ditto" x Googleplex! Something else that I didn't read in the comments. If you take away the artwork, pillows, rug and curtains, you have a pretty neutral pallet. I mean, dark blue can be considered a neutral. So, Presto! Chango! (if it were only that easy) you can change the look when you get tired of this one! Of course, I NEVER would get tired of it! I am energized just looking at it. THANK YOU! (a new subscriber here!)

  155. After scrolling through all the comments and not seeing anyone ask, my question is: how do you use this room? Is the entire family comfortable with the color scheme and the couch as the only seating option? (Can't picture anyone using the bench as a seating spot). My humble opinion is that this room makes an awesome shelter magazine page, but for a daily life of a family with kids… I can't see it.

    Posted 12.5.15 Reply
    • Hi Mila…this room is our formal living…not formal in the sense of being stuffy & fancy, but that it's not our main living area. We have a Den and Family Room…both with comfortable sectional sofas and TVs. This is the room right off the entrance that's not part of our daily living, so I used the chance to have a lot more fun with it. My son is more of a neutral-lover, so his room is more muted, but he doesn't really get a say in the rest of the house…he'll have his own house to decorate how he wants someday. 😉 And there's lots of seating, between the sofa, two arm chairs, desk chair and bench…it comfortably sits 7-8 people. Since the kids are usually near the TV, this room has become my fave spot to enjoy some peace and quiet with my coffee on the weekends. Hope this helps! xo

Hi Cassie! I'm so completely in love with every aspect of this makeover!
Question-is that rug as vibrant and bright as your photos make it out to be? I've looked at your source list and I've gathered that it's the zahra collection from surya…but all the photos I've seen online show it to be more dull/less saturated as what your photos show. I'm super interested in picking one up if the colors are that bold and beautiful! Any info on it would be so helpful! Thanks!!!

    Posted 5.17.16 Reply
    • Thanks so much, Jane! It was dark the day we shot these pics, so she did amp up the saturation a bit…but the pictures on retailer websites are def a little dull. I'd say the true color is somewhere in-between. 🙂 I hope that helps…it's a stunning rug!
