Welcome back to Week 5 of the {One Room Challenge}! Five?!?!? That means the reveal is exactly 6 days away! I can hardly grasp that fact…especially considering how much is left to do! #nowisthetimetopanic If I’m being honest though, I kind of like the pressure, and dramatics that come with it. I work well under deadlines, but tend to procrastinate like it’s my j.o.b. without them.
Well, no time to waste, so let’s get to the Dining Room. Quick recap for those popping in for the first time, we chose the Dining Room for our third round of the ORC (see our Master Bedroom here and Living Room here), which happens to be the first room you see when walking in the house…and is positioned directly across from our little jewel box of a Living Room.
Week 1 I shared how the room looked when we bought it, along with the floor and paint updates, Week 2 was all about the design, plans and project list, at the halfway point we talked wallpaper, drapes and tying the open floorpan together, and last week we swooned all over the wallpaper that was installed.
Okay, now that we’re all on the same page…let’s get after the progress from the past week, starting with my naked windows. I love how the wallpaper really makes the arch pop, but they still look like a face with no eyebrows (don’t google that, btw).
We solved that homely issue with help from The Shade Store! The custom drapes arrived less than two weeks after I ordered them, and a few days later a professional installer came and hung them perfectly in under an hour. And it only took him one attempt, with just one set of holes…I didn’t know that was possible when hanging drapes and hardware! 😉
They still need to be steamed, but aren’t they so gorgeous?! I’m obsessed with the brushed brass hardware, too. You may recall we have yellow drapes in the Living Room so these tie the two spaces together well.
I made a little progress in the Foyer with this stunning leopard rug from Annie Selke…and I think it’s going to marry the two rooms perfectly. Assuming I find the right rug for the Dining Room. We’ll get to that.
Mr. Sugarplum was going to install the new Crystorama chandelier for me, until we realized it was almost 50-pounds!! We called in reinforcements to avoid that whole ceiling-caving-in-concern.
Rockstar contractor to the rescue!
I was worried the fixture was too modern, but now that’s it’s hung, I couldn’t love it more! Oh, and you can see the new table from Joss & Main arrived, too…it’s larger than our old one, and fits this space so much better. Plus, I love the finish and sexy legs.
Sidenote: Both the old light & dining room table found new homes with local readers! If my new chairs work for the room, these upholstered chairs will be available!
As for the commissioned art piece, Juniper sent me this final teaser and I almost hyperventilated! #canyoueven?! Actually, she sends me shots of the full piece to make sure it’s what I want, but you’ll have to wait until next week to see this goddess in all her glory. (She’s 30″x 40″!) I love that Juniper painted her with blonde hair and blue eyes. #ladyofthehouse
Now, on to the deliveries and dilemmas. I knew the wallpaper would be bold and colorful, so until I saw it fully installed in the room, I wasn’t confident choosing the rug. As soon as the paper went up, I knew we needed something slightly muted on the floor, but with hints of the room’s colors…and this one looked to be the winner.
It arrived a couple of days ago, and no question it’s a stunning rug…it even looks great with the navy chair, leopard pillows, and amethyst lamps…but it doesn’t look good with the wallpaper. At all. #wompwomp
This one clearly has too much gray, so now I’m focusing on rugs with mostly blues…and Rugs USA is gracious enough to send me my top choices to try out. Fingers crossed one is the winner, because it’s shocking how much impact the rug has on a room! We’re talking, make-it or break-it impact. #nopressure
In less dramatic delivery news, art arrived from Minted and is as gorgeous as I hoped…
And fun accessories from my favorite decor shops, Furbish and Waiting on Martha.
I should have known the final delivery was going to be a doozy when a freight company called to schedule it…and asked if they were able to pull their truck up to our garage. #ummmmm But wait until you see this 350-pound buffet beauty from ATG Stores!
My cutie-pie assistant…he’s my go-to when things require assembly, or any kind of real thinking.
I feel like we’re close, but a lot hinges on that rug. And then we still have to bring everything in, style it up, and take pics! I think my other assistant gave up on me. Or she’s burying her head pretending there are no problems.
If it all comes together like I hope think, I’m going to love this new room as much, or maybe even more, than the Living Room! #eeeek Do you realize that the winner of the World Series, our new president, and my Dining Room will all be revealed in the next week?! 😉
Thanks again to Linda for including me in this fun ride! And be sure to check-out the other stellar participants in The Challenge, including the over 200 bloggers linking up with Linda on Thursdays!
Can't. Wait.
So. Excited.
Hold. Me.
Can't wait! This room is stunning…the curtains and wall paper and the art work!
Oh wow, it is looking fabulous so far.
So excited to see it all come together. Swooning over that chandelier and loving the yellow drapes – I went with quite a bit of yellow this go around as well. I wasn't sure about it but you've convinced me!
Of the three reveals you mentioned, yours is the only one I'm looking forward to…;) I know it will be gorgeous!
Ha! It's going to be a big week, no question! xo
Drapes look great! But before paint? Dangerous!! I cannot even fathom the cost of this room remodel!!
Certainly not ideal, but I didn't want to miss the chance to have The Shade Store install the drapes for me!! We'll just pull them to the side and paint extra carefully!! Fortunately, there's no wall under the window to be painted, so we can just push the panels to the middle. And yes, so grateful for the ORC sponsors!!!
I guess I just like to see rooms that you can get ideas from and actually afford…not rooms that are sooo expensive. Sometimes that clues me in that it's not the right blog for me…whether it be over the top decorating, or buying $600 shoes. I know that will never have a place in my life, so maybe I should use my time elsewhere. It's great you get to do this, just very over the top…like not lived in. I do agree with a comment that the rooms will be outdated pretty quickly!!
Agree it's hard to fall for something, only to find it's way out of budget…but there's no way I could makeover a room in 6 weeks without the generous support of sponsors. It's just not feasible for our budget. And Linda does an amazing job of getting the best sponsors to be part of this crazy ORC ride. Oh, and ps, you'll never catch me in $600 shoes…or wearing a $600 anything, for that matter! As for the room, wait until you see if finished…it's impossible to judge an unfinished space. 😉 xo
In regards to the $600 shoes, I'm speaking of YouTube in general. Fashion is definitely your jam and I love everything…well most things…you post. And if I don't like it, it's only because I don't have as small a body as you and it won't look good on me.
As for the room…yea, I know it's not finished, but probably couldn't be more from my style…esp the prices. Don't care for the wallpaper and artwork, and that's the biggest part of the room!
Gorgeous, can't wait until next week! Are you painting your the back of your front door? I think it would really pop in a dark color!
Side note: I'd love to see a follow-up post on the master bedroom now that you've lived in it for a while, and see what (if any) changes you've made since the ORC.
Love following your progress Cassie!
Yes, painting the back of the door…not a fan of that orange stain! And I don't think I've changed a single thing about our bedroom, and I love it just as much as the day we finished it!!! xoxo
I love the progress so far, and can't wait for the reveal next week! I hope all the final details go smoothly! If you decide the dining chairs don't work, I would love to have them!
Holy smokes gorgeous! Everything is looking amazing – I loove the leopard rug, perfect transition and that light fixture, not enough heart eyes! Can't wait for your reveal!
The light is PERFECT! Everything looks so great and I just love that you are making this house your very own and not hesitating to be bold. It's going to be amazing.
Whoa, what a difference a week makes. Stunner! That chandy and those drapes are to die for. Very exciting.
Sorry but I think you've gone off the rails, that's one of the ugliest rooms I've seen in a while and it's going to look super dated in about 2 years. I guess there's always the next ORC.
I know it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea (not that it matters, since I'm the one who lives here), but maybe you should wait until the room is complete before you finalize your opinion and pass judgement. 😉 Thanks for following along! xo
That's cool, just delete any replies you don't agree with. Might as well delete this whole thread if you can't take any criticism at all.
Wow Anonymous. Would love to see what your home looks like since you're so quick to criticize this darling lady and her spunky & creative ideas/choices. There's no need to be jerk on her blog if you don't agree with the design choices…it certainly doesn't impact you. And FYI…starting off a rude statement with "Sorry" doesn't diminish the jerk factor at all.
1) My home looks great, and Pinterest seems to agree since photos of it are repinned all the time.
2) This wasn't a "quick" criticism. I've been reading Cassie's blog for years and I am familiar with her somewhat electic/colorful choices, even though they're not to my tastes, but I think this room is a major misstep.
3) Sorry not sorry.
Ouch. Let's try to keep this kind and classy.
YESSSSS girl! Those drapes are the best. Love the way they pull the room together! Can't wait to see it next week!!!
Just curious…. why did you keep the chair rail? Thanks!
Since we didn't wallpaper the entire wall, the chair rail is a nice break between the wallpapered and painted portions (the gray will be painted, fyi!). Plus, extra molding is always pretty in my book…especially a formal dining area.
Oh do I love how this is all coming together! That painting looks like it is going to tie it all together perfectly! And yes – no pressure for next week. All I can think is there's going to be a whole lot less stress come next Thursday!!
It looks great!!! I just love that wallpaper! The leopard rug is fab! Cant wait to see the finished product! XO!
It's looking amaaaaazing! I can't wait to see the final, Cassie (: xx
OK…can we talk about that light fixture….wowza! And the wallpaper and curtains look great! I agree picking a rug for that room is gonna be tough….my first thought was a dark navy or something like that to add balance to the walls…..but rugs are my weakness and I always stress over them:) You got this girl!
This room looks amazing!!! LOVE the new light fixture, it makes everything pop! I'll be honest, when I first started scrolling and seen the wallpaper, I think I made my ugly face but everything together looks so great!!! Wish I had half your talent for design.
Thanks Janie-Marie!! Just wait until the final reveal…I promise it will all come together! (Sometimes I have to remind my own family of that, too!) 😉 xoxo
What was it you said about your kitchen? Better to be one man's shot of whiskey than everyone's cup of tea when it comes to decor? Are you listing your home for sale? No? Then go boldly in your own direction!!!
Preach! 😉 xoxo
