Holla for Friday and working wifi! Thanks so much for all your kind comments to the latest round of Sugarplum Style! Lots of you had questions, so be sure to check back there for my nonsensical answers.
As of noon today, I’m the mom of a high-schooler! #holdme I swear I was just carrying him around on my hip, and now he’s taller than me, and insists on picking me up every time he walks past. Seeing him so grown has me panicking a little, as I realize his years at home are dwindling.
Okay, we need to change the subject before I start bawling. For today’s {Fashion Friday} I’ve got another round of Day to Night for you….this time, featuring my favorite little black dress.
This dress came with me to both Alaska, and New York (see what I packed for that trip here). It packs so easily, taking up no space in my suitcase, and arrives unwrinkled, so I can’t help but grab it every time. It’s comfortable for long days, and with only a few accessory changes, and a shoe swap, it’s perfect for evenings out, as well.
It was warmer later that day, so I left the jacket behind, and switched to sandals.
Normally I pair the dress with bright pumps (like these) for evening, but since we were walking a lot, I opted for these which are very comfortable with an easy-to-wear heel. They pack well, too, since they’re minimal.
The armholes are a tad long on me, exposing my bra, so I layer this lacy bralette. The peek of black lace dresses it up, too.
Sidenote: The bralette does not lend as much support as the model’s picture would suggest, so if you’re busty, you may want to wear a strapless bra, too.
You know I adore color, but there’s nothing more chic than a little black dress…even the most simple ones! Do you have a favorite go-to dress for both day and night?
Our month of craziness continues, and we leave for Montana tonight! We’ll be exploring Yellowstone, then celebrating my sister’s riverfront wedding…follow along in InstaGram and Facebook if you’d like! Happy weekend, lovebugs!
*This post is created in collaboration with Nordstrom, but all clothes, ideas, and street-walking are my own. Thank you for supporting Hi Sugarplum sponsors.*
lovely!the one thing I want to be able to do when get smaller (I've lost another pant size and almost another top size) is wear heels. I luv them, they are gorgeous – but my feet cannot handle them right now. I'm keeping mental note abo the ones u say are most comfy
Have a wonderful time in MT! I hope you love it as much as I do. Jen from Billings, MT
I ordered this dress in pink and I'm still waiting on it to arrive! I think it will be perfect for our upcoming trip to Jamica! You've got me totally sold on the black one too now… I love your styling ideas. Plus I love all the affordable options!
I got the LBD in the mail last night. Mine's a S but wondering if I should get the XS; I'm 5'3", 117# and a tad on the pear shaped side of the fruit spectrum (kudos for the bralette tip, The purple bra I had on looked tres' tacky).
May I ask what size are you in petite black maxi dress? The XS Lush dress needs about three feet chopped off the bottom.
Hi Gail! We're the same size, but I wear an xs in the dress…so you might want to consider sizing down one. You don't want to drown in the fabric. I also have an xs petite in that black maxi…perfect length! And yes, the solid Lush maxis are crazy long, but for some reason the blue patterned one is fine?!? You could also wash/dry it…it will shrink about 5 inches! Hope this helps!!
i have that dress and i love it! i cant wait to wear it when im not breastfeeding as much. pretty sure it would be really difficult to get the boob out in that one! xo jillian – cornflake dreams
You are seriously just the cutest I wish I could have worn that stinkin' dress but there was way too much leg hanging out to get away with it. Thankfully I have a very similar one and you have taught me all sorts of ways to wear it. Have so much fun in Montanna….can't wait to see pictures!
Love this girl!! Happy Friday to YOU!
Can't wait to follow along with more of your travels! High school flies in the blink of an eye. Hang on!
Welcome to my neck of the woods! I live in Cody, WY which is a small town outside of the east entrance to Yellowstone. Have a fun vacation!
Now you've got me wanting to wear that dress during the day, at night, AND IN NEW YORK. Great pics!!!!!!
Your pictures are absolutely beautiful!!! I am so jealous. It looks like it was a great trip. I haven't had the opportunity to go to Alaska but your post is making my travel bug come back 🙂
