Lake House Updates!

Hey friends… I’m positively giddy with excitement for today’s post! Y’all asked for progress reports and all the nitty-gritty on our lake house build, and I’ve got all kinds of updates!

If you missed the news, we stumbled on this new-build earlier this Summer, and jumped at the chance to own a place our entire family can enjoy! It’s on Cedar Creek Lake, in a tiny town that couldn’t be more laidback and quiet, and only 80 miles away. I literally can not wait for all the memories we’ll make here!

It’s been a busy month, and I can hardly believe how quickly things are coming together! The exterior and front door are painted… up next, trim, sconces and the tin roof over the porch.

Sidenote: We selected most of the finishes through the builder’s vendors, so I don’t have exact details yet. I’ll hopefully be able to share those before it’s done!

The floors are in downstairs, an engineered wood perfect for wet foot traffic. Upstairs will be carpet.

Floors: Engineered Wood in ‘Light Oak

The walls have been insulated and textured, up next is trim work and paint. Any guesses what color we’ll choose for the interiors? You might be surprised!

This angle is looking towards the kitchen… the cabinets go in this week!

Here’s a view from the Kitchen looking out towards the lake… I just love how the windows go all the way to the floor!

Tile is one of my favorite accents, and I’m thrilled with how everything looks so far! Here’s a peek at the laundry room floor…

The master bathroom shower is a cool gray/blue subway with extra white grout.

The bunk room bathrooms are blue and green hex tile, with a long subway tile on the shower walls. We always carry tile to the ceiling when possible to make the space feel larger.

Oh yeah… we’re adding shiplap, baby! It’s going up on the main living areas, kitchen, and the feature wall of the master bedroom.

Here’s the view from the master bedroom!! Can you believe the windows?! They’re white inside, and black on the outside.

The back porch fireplace has been bricked and painted. Once they enclose the ceiling, we’ll paint it the same blue as the front door.

Moving outside… the dock is going up quickly. The size is determined by the amount of waterfront, and there are a ton of permits involved, so there’s only so much customization we can do. The deck is a gray composite material that won’t rot or splinter, and the rest of it will be painted to match the house.

We’re painting the closet door the same blue, as well.

We’re working with A Well Dressed Home to help select finishes and design the main living areas… their knowledge has been invaluable during the building process! (You may remember they did our Master Bathroom HERE!) They also have access to trade-only pieces that are made to last with indestructible fabrics (essential for a lake house!), not to mention better-than-retail prices!

Here’s the design board for the kitchen… my fave space in the house so far!

The main living area has sturdy furniture with hearty fabrics, both built to last for years and years! We kept things soothing and coastal so the lake views would remain the focus. We ordered everything through AWDH for trade-only pricing, but I’m linking similar items to re-create the look if you’re interested.

Next up is choosing the house’s name! We narrowed it down to ‘Sandy Cheeks‘ and ‘Bikini Bottom‘ (my kids used to be big Sponge Bob fans!) and put them up for a vote on my Instagram Story. Which gets your vote?

We’re working with CR Thurman Homes, a long-time developer on Cedar Creek Lake, and it’s been such a fun and easy experience! I think he’s got one lot left in our cove… who wants to be lake neighbors?!

The cabinets and trim go up this week, so I’m hoping to head down this weekend. I’ll be sure to tour it on my Instagram Stories, and you can catch that HERE. What do you think so far?! We’ve never built a house before, so I’m just fascinated by the process and all the talented people it takes to build it!
