I can’t even thank you guys enough for your outpouring of kindness in yesterday’s post! I am so overwhelmed and humbled by your comments…I was seriously reading them all with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I honestly love creating for this blog so much, and am just thrilled that you find inspiration here, too!
I was also thrilled to hear that you love the mix of topics…which is good…because I am certainly a mixed bag! You could call it Blogger ADD, but it’s my blog, so whatever. 😉 I know you’ve been waiting for the final Kitchen reveal, but between life and the {One Room Challenge}, it took awhile to finish up the last of the renovation details.
But halleluiah, when my contractor was over helping Mr. SP hang the drapes in the Master Bedroom, he also installed the final piece of the puzzle….the faucet!
There was nothing wrong with the previous faucet, per say, but the style and finish didn’t really jive with the new space, not to mention, the little filtered water spicket thingie didn’t work.
I knew I wanted a bridge-style faucet, but prefer a single handle in the Kitchen since I’m usually using an elbow to turn it on. I also wanted it shiny chrome to match the bling of the other hardware. Oh, and a sprayer is non-negotiable. Those criteria narrowed my options down to only a few…and most were uber-pricey. #awesome
There are a lot of places to save during renovations (like tile and hardware), but turns out, faucets aren’t necessarily one of them. Maybe I happened to get a lemon…that might normally be a perfectly functional faucet…but we bit the bullet and ordered the real deal the second time around.
And truthfully, it doesn’t look a whole lot different than the cheaper option, but the way it feels, operates, and more importantly, doesn’t sound, helped me realize you get what you pay for with these things. And I am over-the-moon happy with all it’s tall, shiny, classic regalness!
The next thing the Kitchen needed was a long runner in front of the stove area. I wanted something with a genuine vintage look, without a vintage price tag. #goodluckwiththat
It’s hard to judge scale in pictures, but the length of the floor on that side of the Kitchen is 13 feet. Every time I found one I liked, that was both affordable and long enough, the pattern was too busy for the backsplash.
Finally, eCarpet Gallery had a 50% off sale, and I nabbed one similar to these, and Hello, Pretty! It’s perfect, and old-looking, but not old-smelling, with a bit of color, but not an overwhelming pattern. I’m back to patting myself on the back.
So that leaves us with one last detail before we can officially call this renovation complete….the switchplates! All 14 of them! I hate that they interrupt the flow of the backsplash pattern, but pulling off this genius trick isn’t really an option either. I’ve got it down to three contenders:
{SALE ALERT!}
Oh that rug! I have to check out their selection. And the facet is gorgeous too.
I had a similar experience with a faucet from Overstock. Except that it was an upstairs bathroom faucet that failed after a few weeks, and leaked water through the floor and pooled on our dining room floor. Never again. Plus Overstock was very difficult to deal with on returning it. Very difficult! We built our own house (also, never again) and found that Build.com was the best resource for top-quality fixtures at the best prices.
Yikes!! That sucks! We didn't have any problems returning ours…guess we got lucky with that! And agree about build.com…that's where we found the door hardware! xo
Love the faucet–it's like jewelry for the kitchen!! 🙂 Out of the outlets, I would either go with the ivory or the black, but if I went with the black, I would change the actual electrical outlet to black so it doesn't stand out in the switchplate cover. (That's a very easy fix for your awesome contractor!) I'm loving the whole kitchen! Can't wait to see the reveal!
I thought the same thing but I bet the hubby and contractor are gonna roll their eyes at all of us for requesting that.
I thought it too…but worry I'm at the end of their rope…that may wait a year or two! 😉
The rug is just perfect and the faucet is gorgeous! Have loved following your renovation, can't wait for the reveal!
PS I vote for painting the switch plates in a black/charcoal matte.
It just looks amazing. I love the faucet, and the rug…perfection! Know you must be thrilled!!
What a beautiful rug! I want one! I always want one in the kitchen but wonder with little ones if it's worth picking up to get to the crumbs. And what a shiny new faucet! Enjoy your beautiful kitchen! Can't wait to see the next room!
I sweep almost every day anyway…so it's no biggie to sweep off the rug, too. And the dark colors hide spills if I get messy at the stove. 😉 xo
Love all of it. I would paint the switch plates to match. The others are too distracting.
I agree with the black plate covers, but is switching the outlets to black an option? That would look perfect!
EEk! That rug is fab Cassie!!! xo
I would go with the ivory switchplates unless you change the outlets to black because otherwise they'll really stand out. Love the faucet and rug! Can't wait to see the reveal!!!
I vote to paint the switch plates the matte charcoal color of the backspalsh. Have you thought of switching out the outlet part too. I bet your rockstar contractor could do it in no time but it wouldn't be no money. lol
Especially since I have so many!!!!! 🙁
Consider this tip from Kristen at the Hunted Interior for hiding those wall outlets… worth a look.
http://www.huntedinterior.com/2015/04/how-to-camouflaged-outlet-covers.html Love the new kitchen.
I was going to say the same thing! I agree– it's worth a look!
YES! Her idea is what i linked in my post 🙂
It looks SO good! I love the way it turned out and the backsplash is to die for!
Man o man that faucet is pretty and YES maam, the faucet it one area where theres no skimping aloud. It looks great, and so does that rug. Never heard of ecarpet gallery so now i must go stalk #thanksforthat. Also i love the idea of spraying the covers the same black as the tile.
I love it!!! Use the black switch plates. They look so sharp against that tile without taking away from them.
Thinking outside the box, could you photograph or put on photocopy your tiles and mod-podge them to Kristin's solution? Also, there are white sharpies (or similar) that you could use and paint the background black.
I just love all your "stuff" in the new kitchen! One question about you runner rug, I have a galley kitchen-one side is my sink and the other side is stove and fridge-I've been looking for a runner but what side of the cabinets would you lay it? Or what kind of rug should I use in a galley? Thanks
I vote everyday
Thanks so much for voting!! Okay, before I answer your questions, I have some of my own…
Is there an island in the middle, splitting the kitchen in half longwise?
If not, how wide is the kitchen?
No island in the kitchen-I would say 4 or 5 ft…
Also, the walls in kitchen are painted a green color-Bamboo Shout
Help!
Since there's no island splitting the room in half, I'd go with a single runner right down the middle to unify the two sides. As for the width, I'd keep it at least 6-inches from either side. So if your floor is 4-feet wide, I'd go with a 3-foot wide runner. Hope that helps!!
Well pickles. I like the black plate with the tile but not with the ivory outlet. So I guess I'm no help!
Love the rug- I think it would be interesting to see what the spray painted switch plate would look like in the charcoal. If not, black would be my backup.
We're remodeling too, and I agree – you totally get what you pay for with fixtures. And I'd say paint the switchplates the same charcoal color – that way they don't detract from the gorgeous backsplash.
LOVE the faucet. It's really pretty in there. My sister is the one who convinced me a while back that quality faucets make a huge difference. Wish I had figured that out many moons ago. And that backsplash. Love the peek of it from the close up photo.
i would do the matte charcoal/black whatever matches the backsplash the best, I think it's fade in. how do u like the faucet with the side sprayer vs. the sprayer built in the faucet? I've only ever had the side sprayer but the hose is so short it barely sprays the entire sink!
This side sprayer is crazy long…and easy to pull out! I've had some in the past that get hung up. I do like a pull down sprayer, but it's not available in these styles of faucets…so the side sprayer it had to be. Also, this sink has 4 holes!!
My vote is for matte black!
I like the black. Is it possible to get the clear covers, and print out a copy of the tile from the internet (sized appropriately) and use that as a de facto wallpaper inside the cover? (Yes, it sounds like work.)
We just put the Weymouth line in our 2 new upstairs baths! Love them, but man not cheap!! We bought them from a plumbing supply place, and the salesman was telling us to never buy a faucet online, the companies (Moen, Grohe, etc.) use cheaper parts in faucets sold online (even though it may look the same on the outside, the guts inside are different). Good tip!
I like the black best too!
I've been waiting for an update on your kitchen! I think the new faucet is really pretty. I like the new rug too. I still think I'd like that black hood that you showed in one of the other pictures and I'd like to see it with a wide black and white striped rug similar to the one in Erin's laundry room of the Sunny Side Up blog. Anyway, the rug you chose was beautiful as well. I absolutely love that backsplash tile. In terms of the outlets, I like the black best of the three photos you showed however I'd be more inclined to paint it the same color as the backsplash tile. And I would also paint the actual outlets themselves the same color as the backsplash tile. Frustrating for sure I know. Just a beautiful kitchen. It's one of my favorite kitchens of all time. Great job.
Thank you so so much! I actually tried a striped rug in there…but it was so graphic, and distracted from the backsplash. I want the backsplash to remain the focal point…this new rug adds warmth, color and texture, but still lets the backsplash shine. Girl, you KNOW i'm always going to default to a stripe if it works! 😉 xo
I used Build.com for almost my entire bathroom reno in our old house. Thanks for the rug recommendation – I just bought a new runner for our front entry for less than I would have paid at Target & it looks amazing!
Love build.com …. that's where we found all the door/drawer hardware!! xo
Have you looked @ Hobby Lobby? They aren't cheap but we did a full kitchen remodel last year w/"Venechine Bronze"(?sp?) accent tiles in between beige & a stone color w/a granite you don't see anywhere….long story short, we found plug covers & light switch covers that matched exactly the expensive "Venechine Bronze"(?sp?) spread out tiles & it really made the look come together! It's work a look…but yes, cost $$, surprising my Hubby said our kitchen had to have them b/c it finished the final look! LOVE!!! We did a Tuscany/Vintage French Kitchen mixed! Walls were cut to put in recessed cabinets, stone work etc….lotSSSS of dust….but oh, Wife is Happy~Happy Life for My Hubby, ;0)!!)
I haven't…but I guess I know where I'm going on my lunch break!!
I vote for the black outlet plates. If you can change the outlet part to match. The kitchen looks terrific!
Looks soooo good!! Can't wait to see more of the house!
LMAO!!!! I have tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard about the faucet sound! #suey
The backsplash pattern of the tiles are really beautiful and the red carpet is such a statement piece too! Absolutely lovely kitchen, thanks for sharing!

I would pick charcoal for the outlet color. Did I miss the kitchen full reveal? I don't remember seeing all of the finished painted cabinets with the new fronts and hardware. May have missed it. Are you doing window treatments and framing those out?
Haven't revealed yet….all the posts are linked at the bottom. xo
Gorgeous Cassie! Just FYI, and you may have already looked into it, but there are several places that make custom switchplates to match back splashes. And, there are some people who will custom paint them. Might be pricey though.
Love that rug!! Voted again for ya!
If I'm every lucky enough to do a total kitchen reno, I will do away with all outlet plugs in the backsplash and instead run outlet plugs on the underside of the upper cabinets. I can't stand the interruption they give.
For your kitchen, I like the black, but I think you need to change the entire thing (receptical and cover) for a more seemless look. I know electrical can be intimidating but this is an easy DIY project. Yes. its an added expense, but worth it. Also, there may be a chemical of some sort that you can dip the covers in that will take down the "shiny". Can't wait to see the final – its looking great!
gorgeous! im hoping to renovate our kitchen next year or the following year so i'm sure i'll be refering back to these kitchen posts for inspiration (and product sources!) xo jillian – cornflake dreams
Cheapy switchplates are paintable. I hated all of the switchplates available when I put in my stone backsplash a few years ago. I primed all eleven. The ceiling light switches were done with the wall color. Then found a suitable color that blended in with the stone (greyish for mine), and then a top coat of poly. They have held up very well and are cleanable.

The tile is so pretty! I like the gray outlet covers. Love your blog-very inspiring.
What a great faucet and the rug is really beautiful and unique.
I know they were original, but do you know what kind of counters you have?
they are white corian xo
