Great Wardrobe Basics Under $40

Happy Monday from our happy place! Little Miss and I have been soaking up the Florida vibes in Anna Maria all weekend, and are anxiously awaiting the boy’s arrival tomorrow. I love this one-on-one time with her! It’s amazing the things she tells me when I give her the space to talk, and I’m actually listening with no distractions. I’m praying we can maintain this closeness through the high school years!

Today on Hi Sugarplum we’re talking wardrobe basics. I love a good trendy top, but every closet needs the classic pieces you can layer and build on. Timeless pieces you’ll reach for year after year. One of my favorite brands, Marks & Spencer, is having a big Save More Event (up to 25% off!), so I scoured their sale and found some amazing basics, all at great prices.

I stumbled upon this store on our British Isles cruise last year, and was instantly smitten! Now I find myself regularly checking their new arrivals, as they’re constantly introducing great new pieces you won’t find anywhere else…and the prices are always really fair! Holiday is my favorite time to shop Marks & Spencer, when they release incredible Home and Gift ideas. Crazy to think that’s just around the corner, right?!

Let’s get started with my affordable finds, all on sale!

Fit Tip: I’m 5’4″, 120-pounds with a small chest. M&S is a UK brand, so it’s typical to size up one or two for the US equivalent.

It doesn’t get much more Summer essential than a lightweight linen shirt! Pair it with everything from jean shorts to skirts, and white jeans to work trousers. The relaxed fit and rumpled texture is it’s appeal, and it never goes out of style.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US4/UK8.

White Linen Button Shirt

Another classic linen, this shell easily dresses up for work, layers under jackets, or adds a chic touch to basic jeans or shorts. I love the gathers along the collarbone for a feminine touch.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US2, but would prefer a size up for more length.

Pink Linen Top

A basic tee with a twist! This darling striped tee is a cotton-linen blend, giving it a great relaxed fit with extra drape. It’s lightweight and gauzy with a loose sleeve, perfect for steamy days.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US4

Okay, let’s chat long sleeve tees! Once Fall rolls around, they’ll be the foundation of the majority of my outfits! Layered under cardigans and jean jackets in Fall, and base layers for sweaters in the Winter. I’ll even pair them with shorts in that tricky transitional season before cooler temps are here to stay. These are made of a sturdy, stretch cotton, that provide a bit of smoothing, as well, and they’re under $15!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing US2, but would prefer a size up for a looser fit.

Basic Long Sleeve Tee

My closet contains more striped tees than anything else, but with good reason! Stripes pair beautifully with every pattern from gingham to floral, and give basic solids a little interest. I love the colors of this blue stripe, and the cotton is thick and stretchy. I also have all the heart-eyes for this colorful stripe, and this one has 70 perfect reviews, and is around $10 with the sale!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US2, but would prefer a size up.

Striped Long-Sleeve Tee

Here’s the same tee in black and white stripe, perfect for layering under virtually any color cardigan!

Let’s bring it back to Summer…this navy striped tank is a breezy linen blend, with a fun drawstring around the hem for a gathered look. I love the muscle fit of the sleeves, paired with the feminine gathers along the bottom.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US2 and it’s fitted. I’d size up one if you’re busty.

And finally, Marks & Spencer has some darling graphic tee options, all made with incredible quality cotton. This ‘Keep Dreaming’ was one of my favorites! They’ve since added new ones to the site, and I adore this NYC cutie, and this ‘do what you love’ tee.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a US2.

I always have the best time browsing the Marks & Spencer site, and will definitely be checking out a store next time we cross the pond! I noticed they have a large kid’s school uniform section for those of shopping back-to-school. We don’t wear uniforms, so Little Miss has her eye on several jumpsuits and hoodies (crazy cute options!!)

The big selection of artificial plants is new to me, and I love so many things in the cookware department. In fact, I picked up this saucepan set  in their last sale and love it!

Are you a Marks & Spencer fan, too? Tell me…what do you shop most from them? Any secret finds I need to know about? The Buy More, Save More Event ends soon, so take advantage of up to 25% off! Cheerio, lovebugs! #cheesy #okaywithit

I have always loved “Marks and Sparks” …I love their Safari Storage jars in a million sizes, bought their egg poachers for me and gifts. When I travel I enjoy shopping in the housewares departments of overseas department store; such unusual things most times! My husband brought me some candles I asked for last time by telling the clerk..” My wife wants the candles the Duchess used at her wedding..some guy makes them.” Uh yeah Jo Malone! Happy Florida!

I can’t seem to find the links to the bathroom light fixtures you just showed last week in instagram. Do you mind linking them again?
