Friends Trail

Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend! Tomorrow is the big OU/TX game, a huge rivalry and traditional weekend in college football. But even though there is no State Fair or many fans in the stands, it still means Mr. College is coming home for the occasion! (The game is played in Dallas every year, the halfway point between the two schools.)

We’ve missed all the fun campus visits this semester, especially football games and Parents Weekend… but especially miss seeing him! This is the longest stretch we’ve gone between visits, and I can hardly wait to squeeze him.

With life looking so completely different this year, I’ve come to rely on my girlfriends more than ever. A day doesn’t go by that we aren’t on the phone or meeting for a long walk… getting outside and venting with friends has become my lifeline! Even better is when I can combine work with girl time… which is exactly what we got to do last week!

We shot our latest GxHSP Collection in Broken Bow, near Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma, and made it a point to wrap each day with enough time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful area. No surprise the Friends Trail Loop was our favorite hike!

It’s a 1.5 mile loop with moderate difficulty, and has beautiful river views… I highly recommend it close to sunset!

We planned ahead knowing we’d want to hike the area, and no surprise we all packed Patagonia! It’s honestly my favorite for pullovers and vests, and I’ve had many of my pieces for years and years (they never wear out!!).

Their fleece vests are great for this time of year, when you need a little coverage. They also make a great layer under coats when the weather really gets chilly. I love the fun colors of this Los Gatos style.

Fit Tip: I always size up one in outwear, I’m wearing a small.

Val and Suzie are wearing my two favorite pullover styles… the organic quilted cotton and the snap fleece. Both are so warm and soft, and come in the best colors and combos!

Backcountry has the best selection of Patagonia, The North Face and more… plus a huge selection of fun beanies! They’re always my first stop in all things outdoor activities, and where we find the best, most reliable gear for hiking and skiing, to biking and camping.

You know I brought my trusty hiking shoes! They’ve carried me all over on some of the most gorgeous trails in the US! (See some of our favorite hikes and best spots for an outdoor weekend HERE.)

These Alo leggings are a new find for me, and I’m super impressed with the quality and feel! They’re a bit thicker, with a non-constricting high waist, and a soft finish. Perfect for hiking or cool-weather workouts!

I’m so grateful for these women and our friendship, and can’t wait to get back to this area for more exploring!! Is Broken Bow one of the best kept secrets, or am I just out of the loop? What other trails and activities do you love in Beavers Bend State Park?

    Hi Cassie,
We live in Chandler, OK and have been a few times to Broken Bow. the last time was last Fall Break. It had been about 5 years since the last time and it is really growing. It has always been a popular place to go for Okies but seems to be getting better known. We mainly hike and sit by the campfire. We sometimes rent paddle boats. I’ve always wants to try camping near the lake. There is definitely more to explore! We love it there! Glad you enjoyed it and looking forward to your next Gibson + Hi Sugarplum release!
