Hello, Friday…come to mama!! I’m so excited for the weekend…first up is the fun back-to-school event I’m hosting at the Container Store…and then our son finally comes home from two weeks of camp! I’m ready for my little tribe to be reunited!
For today’s Fashion Friday, I’m sharing a new-to-me look…a-line midi skirts! I’ve always loved the look, but shied away from them because I assumed I was too short petite (I’m 5’4″). But I fell hard for this bright floral number, and the price was so reasonable, I thought I’d take a chance.
Turns out, the full skirt is wildly flattering, and the length, dare I say, makes you appear taller!

This won’t be a typical {Five Ways} post, in that most of the looks are equally ‘dressy’, but that’s the nature of this skirt. If you’re tall, you could certainly dress it down more with flat sandals, but I found heels more flattering for my height.

ONE | But that doesn’t mean you’re resigned to a single look…the floral midi skirt offers so many outfit options! The key is to keep your top fitted (the skirt is all the volume you need), the waist defined, and your shoes streamlined (to lengthen the leg that is visible). And of course pattern-mixing is always encouraged around here, but with a large floral like this, keep your second pattern small.

TWO | This look is a little more subdued with the crisp white shirt…and you could certainly pair it with neutral heels and bag…but I wanted to show you the fun pop of a second color and pattern. If you’re color or pattern shy, try starting with just the colorful bag, or just the leopard shoes. I pile them all together because that’s my style, but these posts are meant to inspire you to make them applicable to your style and wardrobe.

THREE | Don’t rule out dresses worn as tops…I loved the color and neckline of this dress, and it paired beautifully with the skirt. Obviously this trick only works when the skirt fully covers the bottom of the dress! Notice too, how much more slimming the outfit is by exposing more skin on top and wearing neutral shoes.

FOUR | Pairing the skirt with a lightweight sweater and darker shoes will take it in to cooler months, extending it’s wear-time. Which is great, because I want to wear it all the time!

FIVE | Of course I paired the floral with stripes, too. Because I can never help myself. But just like the gingham, keep the scale of your stripe opposite of the floral scale. Throw on a fitted jean jacket and this outfit is ready for Fall, too.

I’ll admit, when I first put the skirt on, I was a little overwhelmed by the fuller shape and amount of fabric, but then was surprised by just how much fun it was to wear. And clothes are supposed to be fun and make you feel happy, right?! Not to mention, you’ll receive countless compliments from strangers every time you wear it!
Which looks are your favorites? Do you own a floral midi skirt? Happy weekend, lovebugs!
P.S….Don’t forget the fun back-to-school event I’m hosting at the Container Store tomorrow! I’d love to meet you local DFW girls!! Who’s coming??? Warning: I’m a hugger!
I MEAN! HOW CUTE ARE YOU!!!!!!! The skirt looks great on you, and you are the master at throwing together different looks! I think my favorite look is with the crisp white shirt and leopard heels!
You're a fashion genius! A dress under a skirt?!! Love it! Have fun this weekend. The Container Store is my favorite, wish I lived closer!!
I just want to know where you are buying gas that has 1940 gas pumps!
Where do you find these adorable backdrops for your photoshoots? That red gas pump?!? Amazing. My fave look is the floral skirt with stripes – I just can't quit that combo. I've been slow to try the midi look even though I'm tall…conjured up memories of bad "tea length" bridesmaid dresses. But I just bought my first – a knit top, silky bottomed dress – a I loooooove it!
Very cute! You look amazing!
I first thought the dress as top was my favorite look but now can't choose between 3, 4, and 5. Luckily I don't have to and can just like them all! A midi that hits the mid calf is not good on me, but if I'm careful with length; covering the knee or below the fuller part of the calf, I can find a flattering fit. Thanks for the inspiration.
Love this skirt!!! Way too bold for me though. I'm more in to cool tones (I don't think I could pull off the warm tones as easily).

The first look with the sleeveless top and nude heels is far and away my favorite – gorgeous!
cute skirt! i love it with the pink tank 🙂 xo jillian – cornflake dreams
I really liked it with the blue bag. I think that pop of color is what made it my favorite look.

I love this type of skirt and have a few faves, I love wearing it with a crisp white top! You look great no matter which way.
I own two skirts. TWO! And neither of them are this style, because I think they make me look wide. But you are rocking this look and making me reconsider! I, of course, love the looks I would never think of myself…the white button down with cheetah heels and the striped top with wedges!
Great looks!! I cant choose which is my fave! Probably with the gingham shirt or outfit number 1
Awesome, Cassie! I wondered how vertically challenged women wore these skirts with so much fabric – thanks for showing me how wonderful we can look! I have 2 inches on you at 5'6" and love these skirts that I show on my blog, but I don't wear them myself. I'll have to get one to try! At least one because they come in some really awesomely gorgeous prints! I've shown them several times on my blog. I'll take a guess and say you are tired of hearing how "cute" you look, so I'm going to say how wonderful you look in all your 5 looks! I loved all your variations! Such a gorgeous skirt! Love all the looks you put together 🙂
Love how versatile you made this skirt! I would have never thought to pair it with gingham shirt but it looks so good together. My favorite is the striped top combo.
Love how you styled the skirt so many different ways. I'll have to push my comfort zone and do the same. I pretty much only wear skirts but don't own one as full as yours.. Just not sure I can pull it off. Future post idea- tips on posing for pictures… Not necessarily blog pictures but normal everyday pictures as well.
Happy Weekend!
I have this skirt! I love it, but am stuck with what tops to wear with it. I am 5'9" and fairly slim and still feel like it is a lot of fabric! I keep wearing it with a denim button down and am trying to find some sort of fitted crop top but am not having any luck. It looks absolutely amazing on you!!! Thanks for the ideas. I love that it's poofy–provides some relief in this Texas heat!
Of course I'm partial to our photo shoot pics, but the one at that cute gas station is awesome! Makes the red really pop!
I absolutely love the way you styled this gorgeous skirt! I never would have thought to mix florals with leopard (or gingham for that matter!), but now I've seen the light. Thanks for the inspiration and for my now overwhelming need to purchase a floral (or flamingo) midi skirt. 😉

What size are you wearing in this skirt?
I'm wearing an XS…and it's pretty tight in the waist, but I wouldn't want it too big considering how voluminous it already is! xo
