Don’t you love when companies re-brand themselves and come out with new logos and signage, in an attempt to convince us they are a fresh new store that we must check out?! Like we’re suddenly going to forget they were the stores where our grandmothers shopped? I always thought JC Penneys was like Sears….a flagship store in the mall, but always on that wing with none of the good stores. But now they are known as JCP…and may actually have done more than just overhaul their logo!
The new concept includes a series of mini-shops within the store, each pairing with a well-known designer. Basically what Target did for us years ago. I haven’t visited the store yet, but so far I really like these collections I’ve seen online!
Joe Fresh is a popular, inexpensive Canadian brand I’ve been pining over for years, and we’re finally getting a taste of it stateside!
Duro Olowu is a Nigergian-born, London-based designer…who admittedly, I’d never heard of…but anyone described as “The master of mixing, with a riot of color” is someone I need to know! His shop is a fun collection of apparel, shoes, jewelry and home decor.
And finally, everybody’s favorite color company, Pantone, has a fun collection for the bedroom and bath.
They’ve also added Pearl by Georgina Chapman, Assets by Spanx, and Cosabella Amore….all with price tags you’d expect from an affordable store like Penneys. Sorry, JCP. Word is Martha Stewart is on her way, too, and Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler is set to open this month. I think it’s time for a field trip to the lonely wing of the mall…who’s with me? Have you been to JCP lately!?
YES! I went in there in January and was so pleasantly surprised. Good quality, excellent price points, and I walked away with a bag full of new clothes. They also carry IZOD for school uniforms. The best uniform pants I have bought for my son, and he is very rough on pants and they carry slims. I love the new JCP! xo Kristin
Lol! JCPenney is the lonely wing of the mall. I love the new Happy Chic Collection by Jonathan Adler.
Whattttt! I really like those dresses from that first line. I guess I have a new store to stop in at the mall.

I do hit JCPenneys when I'm at the "old mall that nobody goes to anymore" which is near work. I have bought decent slacks for work and some cute tops and sweaters, just basic stuff. But thank you for sharing all the new stuff WITH links (you're so sweet!) so basically you've done the work for us. love that!
There is a free Standing JCP near me that has a Sephora inside. The past few times I have been there, I have been so pleasantly surprised at the clothes. I've gotten a few cute things that I wore a lot last summer. I think I will be heading there more š
im dying to go soon. ive been going last year ever since i found out there's mango and sephora in there š
That's right — I forgot they have a Sephora, too! I know where I'm headed on my lunch break!
I always forget about JCP. I grew up going there as they were one of 2 department stores in my little home town (anyone remember Leggett?). Got the most adorable necklace from there a few years ago, and their circulars are so cute. And Jonathan Adler…be still my heart. Need to put it on my list to check out next time I'm at the mall.
I LOVE JCP and have been getting a lot of stuff there! You really can't beat the prices and I really love all the color they've been having lately!
I had the exact same impression, but two weeks ago I glanced at their ad in the Sunday paper and was pleasantly surprised. I ended up placing an order online and dropped $250 (!! at JCP?!) on a ton of shirts, pants, and shorts, including a bunch of springy gingham button downs. My order is supposed to arrive any day, I can't wait to see if it actually lives up to the cuteness in the ad. Haven't been to a store yet.
Sounds like a great haul — let us know how you like the stuff!
I always forget they're still around – I may need to check them out. Haven't been in one in years!
I got some great colored skinnies from there for cheap… And looks like I need to visit again with these cute new lines. Yay for color!
All the bad about JCP disappoints me. It is a dept store where i live in Ohio and on the front of the mall not the lonely end, they have great stuff, but not everything or the big high $$$ labels you might find at Macy's, etc. The Sephora addition at my store in the past couple years has been great, it keeps me from driving 40 minutes to get to the big Sephora store front. They have cute clothes and home goods too.
I love this post. It may or may not be because I own a ton of JCP stock. When they hired Nick Wooster to head men's fashion, we jumped on the rebranding bandwagon. Yea for them getting some blog cred!
I so love the Joe Fresh line, but everryything I tried buying were out of stock! š So excited to see the other stuff too. š
I love to shop at JCP. I have one not far from work and the people are very nice and the store is spotless. Their clothes have gotten much cuter in recent years.
One of our JCP stores in Seattle is by the "best available" parking at the mall as well as the Starbucks. Their merchandising is much improved over the past year and the clothes — including the mens' lines — are hip. My sister is even contemplating a sofa from their furniture line! You should hit them up to become a blog sponsor — they need a few peeps to get the word out!
Well first of all- huzzah for the return of witty retorts! This is so great that you posted this today because I keep seeing articles about JCP on Racked and have been very intrigued- haven't been in one in literally years. My curiosity is piqued even more now so I will have to check some of these things out- and the gal who commented above that mentioned they have uniform pants- thank you!!!
I told my sister three months ago that she needed to get herself into JCP and girl still hasn't gone? It's my style secret these days. Target who?
Yes! I just went this weekend and got a couple cute tops! I am so happy to see that JCP is FINALLY turning it around. I interviewed with them right when the new CEO started and everyone had so much excitement for what the new strategy was. It's taken a little while to get it off the ground, and even though I never got hired (might have been a blessing because they had a couple rounds of layoffs right after), I have been rooting for them ever since. I will definitely be checking out the Joe Fresh line when it hits stores!
Thanks for the update! I live overseas right now and will have to check to check it out online! It's great to have another shopping option at an affordable price!
Thank you for this post! I have been feeling bad about JCP and hoping they didn't go belly up! I will definitely check them out again…more thoroughly this time!!!

DUDE. You are going to love Joe Fresh. Seriously. About half of my closet and Alice's closet is Joe, super stylish and super affordable!! I think it's totally up your style alley too.
Consider it Canada's gift to you, you're welcome š
I think you will love JCP now that they have had a makeover. We have a JCP store in a strip shopping area. I stop in on my way home from work about once a week. Their prices are amazing and items are easir to find as they keep their racks neat and tidy. Go check them out!
Ooooh! Exciting! I heard JCP wasn't doing too well, but maybe this will help send more people their way!
JCP is stepping up, good prices and their merchandise is become more current. When you asked about your favorite jeans awhile back. Mine are actually from Penney's. They sit nice just below the waist (not too low), dark wash, a little stretch that doesnt get baggy. and for $20…you can't beat them! Love 'hem!
Yes, they redid the stores here too. The only thing that had me wondering was why they would put a Sephora inside JCP, when Sephora was literally two doors down on the same wing!! CRAZY! Looking forward to seeing the new JA line.
I worked at the JCP corp office in catalog/internet advertising from 2000-2008 (when the economy tanked and everyone was having massive layoffs). They used to do focus groups, and believe it or not, many people wanted the "older" style JCP that sold ruffle priscilla curtains and whatnot. But the company execs wanted to fit it closer with the "stylish" retailers. In the time I worked there, I believe we had 3 or 4 different CEOs. And since then, I believe there's been about the same – 3 or 4 more. The public (and myself) seems to love the newer, more fashionable styles, yet the company just can't recover and thrive like it did back in the day when the merchandise was slightly different. The company really is tanking, which is sad since they've been around for over 100 years. Mr. Cash is probably rolling in his grave.
