Dressing Room Diaries

Cheers to Friday…we made it! It’s been such a crazy time trying to balance work and the kid’s summer break, but I love every extra second I get with them. (Hallelujah for flexible work hours!) I’m already dreading their return to school next month…is that normal?!

I’m excited to share another Duggar-sized Dressing Room Diaries with you today! You guys seem to like the occasional dressing room snaps I post on InstaGram using #HSPDressingRoomDiaries, so I thought it’d be fun to expand it for the blog. I don’t typically do them in back-to-back weeks, but there’s just too much great stuff in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

The shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, my hair is usually past it’s expiration, and many of the items aren’t a good fit for me…but it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model. Let’s get after it, shall we?

Sidenote: Shoes & jewels are just what I happened to be wearing that day…and everything is true to size, unless I indicate otherwise.

I showed you the striped version of this tee, and many of you agreed that it’s your favorite, as well. You just can’t beat the fit, flattering neckline….and especially the price! I’ve got it paired with the ‘grown-up’ Kut from the Kloth jeans I told you about last week. Great little outfit now, and with a scarf and boots this Fall.

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015

I’ve decided on these as my favorite new distressed jeans, and these as the best-fitting non-distressed. They have a nice, dark rinse without a lot of trendy whiskering and fading, and are higher in the back. #nobootiegap You might remember the washed shirt from last week, I’ve seen it restocked a few times, so keep an eye on it if it’s one you want.

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Another fun plaid shirt…and this year’s surprising new distressed jeans I love. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older, but wowza is it nice to give the muffin-top a break! I can’t find this exact shirt online, so it must be sold out. Which is just as well, because I loved this one and this one better.

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015
This is a great shirt with a sweet heart pattern…I love its tailored fit for jeans, slacks and skirts.
Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015

I was really excited to try this cape, but felt like it overwhelmed my frame a bit. It’s really soft and chic, and will elevate your casual boots and jeans outfits this Fall. I’d recommend it for those of you with broader shoulders or larger boobs. The boots, however, are definite keepers!

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015
This wrap is more of a poncho-style, with actual armholes. I like the simple pattern and minimal fringe…it’s really lightweight, too, for those of you who like the look of a wrap without the accompanying hot-flash. 😉 Oh, and the booties are the most comfy of all the ones I tried…lots of cushion!
Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

This wrap is like baby kittens and clouds, all rolled in to one. It seriously feel like heaven…basically what I’ll be reaching for every night after work. I change out of my work clothes the second I get home…are you like that?

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Little Miss has already tried to steal it!! #nicetrykid

Hi Sugarplum | Barefoot Dreams wrap

This geo print sweater coat is super-cute and really warm, but a tad long for me (I’m almost 5’4″). And if you’re not a fringe-girl (what?!?!?!), you could easily snip them off.

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Let’s move on to coats….now is the time to scoop up investment pieces like coats, boots and jeans…the quality things you’ll keep for years. I love the rough edge moto jackets add to feminine outfits, and this faux-leather one would be cute with both workwear and weekends.

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015
No surprise I reached for this puffer vest…so cute with a fur-lined hood!
Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015
And another one, but with fun toggle buttons. And these are the moto pants I showed you last week, but in my usual size. I think I prefer one size up.

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The color of this coat is perfection, and the collar and pockets give it a nice tailored look. It runs large, so I’d recommend sizing down. If you’re looking for a less expensive option, consider this one.
Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015

If Texas had more than 10 freezing days a year , I’d keep this coat in a heartbeat. It’s really warm and well-insulated, and fitted through the waist to keep you from looking like the Michelin Man. And that fur collar!

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015
These two are good coat-alternatives (pretend I’m not wearing them with a random skirt)…the southwest one runs large and is a tad shape-less, but the navy is soft as butter with nice, fitted shoulders. It would look flattering and pulled-together with jeans or pants.
Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015

Okay, next up is dresses and work-wear…starting with an amazing little black dress! It fits like a glove with a pretty scallop neckline and hem. I’m desperately trying to rationalize why I need another black dress…but this is seriously one that would be perfect for so many occasions.

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Love the sweet fit-and-flare silhouette of this dress, with the exposed zipper giving it a touch of edginess. And hello, pockets!
Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015
Remember this dress from a recent {Day to Night}…well, they’ve rolled out a long-sleeve version. It’s a little thinner than the sleeveless counterpart, but really comfy and polished. Size up one if you want a less body-conscience fit (like what I’m showing). I was surprised by how much I liked the red, but will likely go with the black.
The little pink dress from yesterday’s post dress sold out fast, but here’s another great option. Love the neckline and straps.
Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015
I hoped this a-line skirt would be a great workwear addition, and it did not disappoint. Great fit and flattering shape…and transitions well for colder months with tights. The blouse is perfect for work or weekends, with lots of great pattern options, but it does run large.
Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015
I adore this dress…and really wanted it to work…but alas, my absence of boobs makes it too low-cut in the front. It’s the kind of dress I’d wear on vacation with Mr. SP, but would be borderline inappropriate for everyday life. But love the color, and that cute side hem. Please someone get it and let me live vicariously through you!

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015

Our son requested a hotel staycation for his birthday this year (twist my arm!), so we’re headed to our favorite local spot this weekend. This cute romper is coming with me…it isn’t part of the Anniversary Sale, but is the sister of my favorite black romper, and on super sale! #creepernotincluded

Hi Sugarplum | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2015

Whew! That is a lot of chatting…and too much me…so let’s call it a day! Did you spot any new favorites from this round? Don’t forget you can see more sale looks in last week’s {Dressing Room Diaries}, and all my favorites are shown in Sugarplum Picks. Happy weekend, lovebugs!

I LOVE the last dress on you!! I think the small boobs size is what makes it not so flashy. I've always suffered from the same "problem" but lately I'm realizing that it lets me wear more daring necklines and cut-outs without feeling so self-conscious! Plus, the color looks so good on you.

    • Thanks so much, Estrella! I've come to embrace the flatness, too…it opens up so many opportunities! 🙂 xo

  3. So you probably need to move to a colder climate so you can get that orange coat and the army green coat with the fur hood. I'll miss you, but you'll be so cute.

    • Right?! Maybe I'll get it and just stay inside with the A/C on?! #ideaman

Again, I love these post! I love the blanket ponchos but didn't even bother trying one. That sort of thing swallows me. I ordered the split neck blouse but it went back… The fit was strange on me and a different size wouldn't have mattered. All of the dresses are so cute on you. I have to stick with skirts right now to be able to feed the baby so I WILL live vivaciously through you 🙂 have a fun birthday weekend. What a great idea!

Oh, I ordered the scoop neck tees. One came so far and seems nice! Some reviews talk about holes forming… I hope not but at least Nordstroms has a great return policy if that happens.

    • That's why I've become such a Nordstrom advocate…it's almost like their clothes come with a guarantee!! 😉 You just can't beat their customer service! xoxo

    • So many of my Loft and j crew factory tees get holes in them within the first 5 washes. How far out from the purchase date would you feel comfortable returning the item? I always seem to get a bit of attitude when I do.

The V neck dress is a bit bare, but could alterations shorten the straps a little and therefore raise the neckline? It's an easy alteration and can change flash into fab. After all, the color is killer on you.

    • You are a genius, Patricia!! I just reordered it!! Thanks for the great tip! ox

  7. So many great things!! I ordered some stuff from the Anniversary sale and I'm loving it (finally got one of those Bobeau one button cardis–so soft!!) Have fun at the staycation!

    • Oh yay…don't you love that cardi?! But be careful…they are a little addicting. You'll have quite the collection by Winter. 😉 xo

    Posted 7.24.15 Reply
    • Thanks Sabrina! I love those fringe booties..such a fun twist, with a bit of an edge. I haven't decided which booties I'll keep yet (why can't I just keep them allllllll?!) 😉 but the fringe are def top contenders!

  9. Oh my word- everything looks so cute on you! I especially love the exposed zipper dress and the body con dress. Such fun picks for fall!

  13. I seriously loved the BP soft shirt too…especially after all I had to do was fluff in the dryer and almost all the wrinkles came out! Thought the Lucky booties were the most comfy too. And I am tall and have broader shoulders and STILL that hinge cape just did not work for me either. I ordered those fringe booties in the soft saddle and am still on the fence with the color. I was super sad the romper didn't work for me…too short waisted and all legs over here. You found some great things!

    Posted 7.24.15 Reply
    • Oh, to be tall and long-legged!! I think that's a fair trade for not being able to wear the romper! 😉 happy weekend, sweets! xo

  15. Are the piper distressed jeans really long? I bought the vigoss by like the looks of yours better. I just don't want them extremely long, I'm 5'4". Do they fit true to
    Size? Thanks! Love these posts!

again you are so ca-UUTE!! if only everything looked as good on me as it does you! I agree with Girl meets bow – it helps even if the body shapes are different – its still so much better than a flat pix. that sounds like something my son wud like for his bday. the best part of a hotel stay with him is the room service – ha! San Luis in Galveston has two contenders – their rock waterslide and room service – oh! and the cabana.

  22. First off, I LOVE your blog! You've got great fashion and design sense! I have the slight problem though that I am the complete opposite body shape as you (6ft tall, larger chest, usually size 14), so all of the juniors stuff isn't really an option :(. But I'll still read your posts anyway! 🙂 Curious if you know of any other similar blogs with women closer to my body type? Thanks!

    Posted 7.26.15 Reply
    • Hi Andrea! I'm thrilled you find inspiration here! I try to link just as many Women's as I do Juniors items…and many of them are sized for both. Just check the fit guide to see where you'd be. I'm so jealous of all your glorious height!!!! xo
