Cheers to Friday, friends! I’m spending the next couple of days in Austin, soaking up as much knowledge as possible at a blogging conference. (Follow along on Instagram Stories to see peeks of the fun.) You’d think after almost eight years of blogging, I’d know #allthethings, but not surprisingly, most of the info is flying over my head. For a job that’s so much fun, there’s a shocking number of things that go on behind the scenes. But that’s another post for another day.
Thanks so much for the love on this week’s posts! We started the week with a round-up of favorite Spring Sandals and 15 Ways to Wear a Military Jacket, and yesterday was all about my Evening Skincare Routine. I’m thrilled you liked the posts, and I always love hearing your feedback and comments! (You can sign up for my daily posts and weekly newsletter here…so you never miss a post!)
Today I’ve got a new Dressing Room Diaries with my cute Mama Sugarplum…and you know the drill, I hunt down some of the cutest new arrivals from my favorite retailers, and review them for you. The shots aren’t good, the lighting is bad, my hair is usually past it’s expiration, and many of the items aren’t a good fit for me…but it’s real life, real girl, real clothes…and hopefully helpful for you to see them this way, instead of perfectly styled on a model.
Fit Note: I’m 5’4″-ish, 120 pounds-isa (depending on the week’s taco count), with a slight pear shape. My usual size is an XS/0. Mama Sugarplum is 5’1″, with an hourglass figure. We typically wear the same size, but she sometimes goes with petite.
Let’s kick today’s DRD off with dresses…always my favorite category! This dress combines so many of my favorite elements in a dress…ruffles, a-line shape, and defined waist. The chambray material is a thick, but soft, chambray, with a partial wrap-style for a flattering fit at the waist. It’s a little short, so I’d probably stick with flat sandals, but it will be so fun to style with different earrings and bags.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS. If you’re broad shouldered, or busty, you might size up one.
Ruffle Wrap Dress | Sandal | Hoop Earrings
Did you realize Easter is next weekend? Yep, it comes early this year! This pink gingham would be perfect…great knee length and modest fit, with the cutest pattern and fit-and-flare shape. The top is fully-lined, but the skirt is thick enough to not need lining or a slip. It has great movement, and is a steal! It’s super cute with a jean jacket and straw bag, too. The shoes come in a slew of fun colors and have a comfy block heel.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2P…I went with petite sizing for a shorter length, and sized up one to accommodate for the petite.
Gingham Fit-and-Flare Dress | Sandals (tons of colors!) | Hoop Earrings
This ruffle dress is a great option for Easter and all your Spring showers and parties. Love the periwinkle blue, and the ruffle creates a flattering silhouette and makes the skirt extra flirty. It’s a thick, stretchy polyester that skims the body without hugging too much.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2.
Ruffle Dress | Nude Sandals | Hoop Earrings
Ignore my dirty mirror and crazy dog…I’m completely smitten with this one-shoulder jumpsuit! In fact, you’ll see it styled on the blog next week for Day and Night. The one-shoulder shows just enough skin to be sassy, but not enough to feel exposed for most occasions. It’s a thick, lined crepe material that moves beautifully, and the tie accents the waist. And let’s not overlook the pockets! The top is fitted, and the legs flare out a bit with a cropped length.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular 0, but it comes in petite sizing too. I tried a petite, but it was too high-waisted for my frame.
One-Shoulder Jumpsuit | Heels | Earrings
With all my being I wanted to love this striped jumpsuit, but alas I don’t think it’s meant for me. It’s a crisp cotton poplin with halter neckline. I mean, the bow, the pockets, the stripes…I love everything about it! Maybe it’s just too long for me…but someone taller please get this and let me live vicariously through you!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular 0. I’m tempted to try again and pin the length shorter to see if it’s better!
Striped Tie-Back Jumpsuit | Wedges
Clearly I’m having a blue moment, or maybe it’s just the color of Spring. Either way, it’s a good thing because everyone looks good in blue. This dress has a subtle fit-and-flare shape, with sturdy lace overlay. I love the ruffle detail on the sleeve and hem. I’d probably do a more delicate shoe…this wedge feels a little heavy for the lace. But I’d certainly wear it with my fave flat sandals!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular 0.
Another fun gingham option…this one in a heavier tweed material, and fully lined (making it a little heavy). I do love the deep blue and white gingham, and the slight racerback arm is crazy flattering.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a regular 0, but would like it shortened a couple of inches.
Gingham Tweed Dress | Wedges | Earrings
The same tweed gingham material, but in a darling sleeveless top with fringe trim!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.
Gingham Tweed Top | Distressed Jeans | Wedges | Earrings
Oh look, here’s my darling Mama Sugarplum in the top! She’s bustier than I am, and would prefer it in a small.
Gingham Tweed Dress | Gingham Tweed Top | Wedges | Earrings | Dark Skinnies (40% off!) | Platform Espadrilles
Now let’s move on to tops, starting with this fun swing tank. It’s the softest brushed fleece material with a subtle bell shape and fun movement. I love the angled hem and longer back (covers the bum!). It’s a great top for jeans, shorts and denim skirts. Makes a cute half-tuck, too.
Fit tip: I’m wearing XS.
High-Low Swing Top | Distressed Jeans | Wedges
This sweatshirt accompanied me to West Texas, and it was a great breezy top (I paired it with denim shorts). It’s a lightweight, terrycloth front, with full poplin eyelet back. But somehow, I can still wear a regular bra without it showing in the back! The shoulders are dropped and it’s a relaxed fit.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.
Eyelet Sweatshirt | Distressed Jeans | Flat Sandals
Love the sassy cold shoulder paired with the sporty stripe of this linen-blend top. You get all the fun of off-the-shoulder, without having to worry about the top slipping…and works with a traditional bra! It’s a tad cropped, so if you’re long-torsoed, you may want to skip it.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS.
Striped Top | White Ankle Skinny Jeans | Flat Sandals
I was so excited to try this top…the stripe + the graphic embellishment! Boden makes one of my fave striped cotton tees, but this one is a thinner, stretchier version than their original. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but the graphic is actually grosgrain ribbon sewn on in accordion folds.
Fit Tip: It runs really small, I’m wearing a 4, and it was still too small. So I’d size up 2 from your traditional US sizing.
Graphic Striped Tee | Distressed Jeans | Flat Sandals
This tiered tunic is an incredibly versatile top that works with everything from jeans to shorts to slacks for work. It’s a swingy, crepe material with asymmetrical hem and roll-tab sleeves. It’s part of my friend Erin at Living in Yellow’s collection, and I’m so excited for her…the pieces are all so good!
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a reg XS, but it does run a little big.
Tiered Tunic Blouse | Distressed Skinny Jeans | Wedges | Hoop Earrings
I can just hear my Mom gasping over this top…it’s so her!! It couldn’t be any more perfect for Spring, right?! The bright shades of green and fun floral embellishments make it darling with jeans, pants or skirts. I love the longer arms and contrasting collar color. It’s a soft, stretchy merino knit, but not sheer.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS.
Striped Embellished Sweater | Distressed Skinny Jeans | Flat Sandals | Hoop Earrings
Mom insisted we try these pants (she has a thing for dots), and we both thought they were so darling. They’e a thick stretchy material that go on tight in the beginning, then form to your shape after a few deep squats. (You know the routine!) The top is a crisp poplin with fun ruffle neck, and long enough to tuck.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a 2 pant and XS top.
Ruffle Neck Top | Polka Dot Stretch Pants | Wedges | Earrings
Mom sized up to a 4 in the pants, and went with petite for an ankle length. Her top is an XS.
Ruffle Neck Top | Polka Dot Stretch Pants | Earrings | Flat Sandals | Wedges
Another fun top, this tee has an asymmetrical peplum hem and cute crewneck shape. The material is a thick, stretchy waffle knit.
Fit Tip: We’re both wearing an XS…the peplum is a little short for my longer torso, and Mom would have preferred sizing up for more room across the chest.
Asymmetrical Flounce Tee | Distressed White Jeans | Wedges | Dark Skinnies (40% off!) | Platform Espadrilles
Let’s first stop to look at Mama Sugarplum’s cuteness! Okay, now let’s talk about her little bomber…it’s a perfect lightweight knit for Spring, giving you the look and style of a jacket, but only the weight of a cotton top. The material is soft, but really textured for a fun layer.
Fit Tip: She’s wearing a small for more relaxed fit.
Lightweight Woven Bomber Jacket | Dark Skinnies (40% off!) | Platform Espadrilles
I’m on a graphic tee kick lately, and this blush pink is a fun option for Summer. It’s a thick, sturdy cotton with oversized fit. The pants have an exposed hem and ankle length, with cargo-style pockets. They come in a bunch of colors and are the perfect weight for warmer months.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing a small tee (but need an XS), and size 26 pants. They have a bit of stretch, so give to your shape after a bit.
Graphic Tee | Raw Hem Cargo Pants | Flat Sandals | Earrings
Another graphic tee, this one in a super-soft cotton with long sleeves and front pocket. Now every day can be Friday! These are the same pants as above, but in white. They are a great opaque material, and not sheer.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS tee and 26 pant.

I was a little confused by this tee on the hanger, and then loved it on! It’s fairly long, but scrunches up with surprisingly flattering side ruching. The sleeve is a bit longer than a cap sleeve and the v-neck doesn’t overexpose.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS tee.
Ruched Tee | Distressed Jeans | Flat Sandals | Earrings
I love lightweight cardigans during the warmer months, because even if it’s toasty outside, it’s always freezing indoors! This cardi is a soft, lightweight knit with a boyfriend fit. I love the larger pockets, too. It comes in a ton of colors, and even stripes.
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS in both the cardigan and boatneck tee.
Knit Cardigan | Ballet Neck Tee | Distressed Jeans | Flat Sandals
Another great lightweight cardigan option, this one longer with a linen-blend. The fine gauge fabric keeps it from being bulky or overwhelming shorter frames. It was part of my travel outfit last week, and kept me comfortable and looking pulled together. (I also washed and dried it with no problems!)
Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS

If you prefer pullover styles, this merino v-neck is super-soft and comes in a slew of colors. The weight is sturdy enough to not show the outline of your bra, but not too warm.
Fit Tip:I sized up to a small for a relaxed fit, but my usual size would work too.
Merino V-Neck Pullover | Distressed Jeans | Wedges | Earrings
Merino V-Neck Pullover | Distressed Jeans | Wedges | Earrings | Dark Skinnies (40% off!) | Espadrilles
My mom is always a sucker for pajamas, and she loved this cropped style for warmer months. The cotton on hers is a little thicker and less silky than my shorts set, but still really soft. Mine are more of a jersey knit.
Fit Tip: We’re both wearing XS.
Shorts Pajamas | Cropped Pajamas
And finally, we’ll finish this DRD with my favorite one-piece swimsuit. I couldn’t resist grabbing it in a second color when it went on sale, and love this ‘Brilliant Turquoise.’ It’s such a flattering and chic swimsuit, and I love it paired with shorts or a skirt for casual vacation vibes. These shorts are super soft and stretchy, and completely opaque. Also a great longer inseam…you can uncuff them for even more length. And the slides…darling, right?!
Fit Tip: I size up in the suit for more torso length and full coverage across the bum, and am wearing a 4. The jean shorts and sandals are true to size, I’m wearing 26.
Plunge-Neck Swimsuit | White Cut-Off Shorts | Striped Slides

Keep the pink ruched top.
Happy weekend!
yes — she’s embraced the nickname!! 🙂 xo
Love your new hair cut! Please give details so I can take to my stylist. Very pretty. Thanks.
I got a little scissor-happy on my bangs!!!
So many cute things! I added the swing tank to my cart, the violet color is so pretty and I wish the bomber jacket was still available in more sizes. It sounds perfect for a Spring in Texas.
Cassie – I love the yellow, green and white striped sweater!!! I have a longer torso and was wondering if the sweater would work for me. Sometimes those cutie little sweaters can be a shorter length.
Yes! I think there is enough length to it, it’s not cropped at all!
I loved the striped jumpsuit on you. I think it would be darling cut into shorts length for a romper.
That’s a fun idea!!!
Great post with lots of options! Love the blue ruffle dress, but it’s sold out in my size 🙁
Oh bummer, hopefully it’s restocked!
I need to get some new wedges, yours and your mom’s are both so cute!!! I also loved that JC. Penny dress…who would have guessed! Love these posts of yours!
Right!!?? I was surprised to find so many fun options there!
Are the Vigoss jeans you linked the same ones you are wearing? I just received my pair and they fit well but they are a lot lighter. I was hoping for a darker color like yours.
Unfortunately, lighting and computer screens don’t always give an accurate depiction of colors. Are your close to the color on the website?
I ordered the pink gingham immediately when I saw it on your Instagram and I love it just as much on me! Thanks!
Absolutely love all your cute outfits. Can I just shop with you! 😉
Thank you!! That would be so fun, but hopefully this is the next best thing!
