When it comes to gold paint and gold leaf, I have no shame. My connection to Liberace runs deep, and I’ll slap some gold on just about anything that will sit still. One of the upsides of organizing my craft supplies, was re-discovering products….specifically this Liquid Gilding
. I immediately scouted the house looking for something to glam, and 10 minutes later I had some jazzy new agate coasters!
I picked these faux agate coasters up several months ago on clearance here, so not sure if they are still available…but a pricier version is available here. I know they aren’t fooling anyone into thinking they’re real, but I liked the pink color, and texture they add to vignettes. And I liked the $10 price tag.
This little jar of Martha Stewart Liquid Gilding goes a long way…but is also highly toxic (i.e. super stinky, so hide the kids and dog).
I just used a small craft brush, and carefully painted the edges. The liquid pools a bit, but it adds to the authenticity of the gold.
It dried quickly, so I did several coats on each to make the gold more intense.
It’s subtle, but definitely makes the coasters look more expensive.

I am yet to use the liquid gliding. I love the pink color of the coasters and gold paint makes them look splendid.
I have those Target coasters in the blue color. I ran out to Michael's today and bought a jar of the liquid gold after seeing this because I could not find the Martha Stewart brand. I just did the first coat and it looks great! Thank you for the great post that helped make my Target coasters look sooo much better!!
I have the blue ones and used a little rub & buff on the edges a while back. You're right, it TOTALLY makes them look more expensive! Now I wish I had the pink ones too! đŸ™‚
I used a similar paint on a light for an office refresh I just did. It was actually a small bottle I had from my grandma's craft stash, probably at 40 years old or something, what goes around comes back around! đŸ™‚

Hey Cassie! Long time reader, first time commenter! You are the first I think of when I see anything gold related….you do it so right!! I have a question, I just purchased a side table from Target that is a gold wire table with a 15" round wood top. I'm not crazy about the look of the wood. Any advice on what I could do to change it or what product you would recommend to possibly change it to gold also? Thanks so much!!
Hi Brenda!! I think I know the table you're referring to, and the options are endless! You could paint it, sand it and stain it a darker or lighter tone, cover it in fabric, stencil it, or do some kind of faux-paint treatment like malachite or marble!! Such a fun project!
