DIY Fluffy Slime Recipe (Non-Toxic!)

Slime?! I’m blogging about slime?! True, today’s post is a bit of a departure from the norm around here, but if you have school-age kids, then you know exactly what I’m talking about! Slime has taken over households this Summer, and is the reason Elmer’s Glue is sold out virtually everywhere!

It’s also the single most frequently asked question I get on Instagram lately! It’s gotten to the point where I won’t even post my daughter on Insta Stories if she’s holding, making, or playing with slime!! Seriously, if I do, the requests for her slime recipe come flowing in faster than I can keep up.

Some of you are likely still confused, but others know all too well exactly what I’m talking about! My Little Miss is passionate about making slime, and agreed to share her homemade (and safe) recipe and tips for creating a perfect, fluffy batch!

I have two rules when it comes to slime:

  1. Use only safe, non-toxic ingredients (no Borax or soaps)
  2. Keep the slime away from fibrous materials like rugs, carpets and towels (it sticks to those, but is fine on hard surfaces like tables.)
  3. Okay, three rules…don’t use Daddy’s shaving cream!

Now for the ingredients and instructions!

{What You Need}
School Glue
Shaving Cream
Contact Lens Solution
Food Color (optional)
Large Bowl
Spoon

As for the actual making of the slime, I’m going to let Little Miss take it from here…

Hi everyone!! Today’s post as you saw in the “title” is all about slime! I made this video below to show you how I make Non-Toxic Fluffy Slime. It has my recipe and all the tips and tricks I use to make my fluffy slime!!!!! 🙂

So I hope you enjoyed the video and blog post, and it helped answer your questions!! If you have any more questions, just post a comment and my mom will tell me. Have fun making slime everyone!!!!!

Thanks, babygirl! Can you believe she made that video all by herself!? I’m not kidding…she recorded, edited, and added all the graphics and music! She and Mr. SP even wrote the theme song at the end! I hope your kids love making slime, too, and spend hours and hours playing with it! #summerwinning

OMG, I had to put a stop to slime making in my house. My kiddo made first made it with Borax (not good) and then switched to contact lens solution… The mess! Towels, a rug and countless shirts have been affected by slime! Now when the urge hits to make or play with it, I send her over to the “nice” mom’s house! 🙂

Super cute video! My 11yo is obsessed with slime. I was at Target last week and they had an entire end cap dedicated to slime ingredients. Which means we now own a giant vat of Elmer’s Glue!

My 6 and 4 year old love making slime so they were very excited to try this recipe!! We had been making slime with borax so thank you for a non toxic recipe:). It turned out awesome! My girls have it two thumbs up! I will say – you need to mix it a lot in your hands until it doesn’t stick to you anymore. We almost gave up on it as it was still very sticky while mixing. Great tutorial Sloan!!

Helppppppppp, Sloan!! My granddaughter is visiting us in North Carolina from Seattle and we watched the video several times before first attempt. We had a big FAIL. NEVER got to the sticky stage. Was more like melted marshmallow consistency. How many ounces were in the bottle of glue you used??? Any other suggestions? We still had fun though it didn’t work. Thanks for putting this video together. You did a SUPER job! Ciao, Dee

  30. Hey I read your blog, the recipe is superb and very easy to understand. But the description about the process is a bit less. Here I found another blog as mentioned with three ways to make slime

Hi Cassie 🙂 While many people may initially think men’s shaving cream is harmless, it does depend on the brand. You will find that most do contain harmful ingredients like propane, isobutane, etc. Because the cosmetics industry is not regulated by the FDA, this is a website many refer to in order to avoid toxic ingredients in cosmetics and household cleaning items:
