Thanks for the great comments on the Venice post, it really is as magical as it looks. I’ve got several more {Trip Reports} planned, but today it’s back to home improvements!
Adding the drapes was a huge update for the Dining Room, but I’ve been saving the biggest change for last…painting the walls and ceiling! Since the ceiling is 14-feet high, I knew I’d have to hire it out. (This girl and the top rung of a ladder don’t mix!) But most of the delay has been because of my indecision on the color.
If you recall the Mood Boards, the plan all along has been a pale, glamorous, sophisticated pink. I just had no idea it was one of the hardest colors to find! I don’t want baby nursery pink, or purpley pink, or the worst option…fleshy pink. Thank goodness for the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer.
You’re able to upload any picture, then waste an entire afternoon playing with potential paint colors! It is so helpful to actually picture it before you paint it. The tools are super simple…you select from their vast rainbow of colors, and just drag and drop!
Granted, there are fluctuations in computer monitors, but ‘Innocence’ had been my front-runner until I saw how bubble gum it looked in my room.
Same was true for ‘Possibly Pink,’ which I discovered had too much purple. I was able to eliminate other shades of pink as well because they were too ‘Silence of the Lambs’ (fleshy, skin-tones…ick).
Keep reading to place your vote, and be entered to win $100 Sherwin-Williams gift card!
It appears we may have a winner with ‘Verbena,’ which has a nice blend of warm and cool tones. (Does that even make sense? I think I just made that up.)
As long as I was playing, I figured I’d see if pink was indeed the right choice…so, here’s how the room looks with a dark and moody color, like ‘Black of Night.’
Not bad, but my jaw hit the floor when I saw ‘Showstopper’ in action. I’d have never considered painting it red…nor would I know how great it would look… without the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer!
As much as I love the red walls, I’m not sure how they’d relate to the adjoining rooms. The Entrance Hall and Living Room have red accents, but saturating the walls in the intense color might be too much. But, obviously, this tells me I’d like some boldness in here, so why not try it out on the ceiling? Here’s where you guys come in.
I absolutely love getting your input…and you’ve never been shy about dishing your opinions. So what say you…
B) Walls: Red & Ceiling: Pale Pink
C) Walls: Darker Pink & Ceiling: Dark Gray
D) Walls: Pale Pink & Ceiling: Darker Pink
E) None of the above…girrrrl, you’ve lost your mind!
Definetly E
What about checking one out that left the bottom white. Then the trim would kinda mimic the rug. I dig that. I'm also a fan of the funky ceiling. Whodathunkit?
you know I like the red walls – it feels classic and modern at the same time – what a fun tool! I'm trying to decide which color to paint the kids bathroom right now – maybe I should play with this tool before selecting a color
I like D. I have been waiting forever to repaint my bedroom because of the vaulted ceiling.
I personally think option E… I'm just not a fan of pink/red walls. My jaw hit the floor with option "Black of Night". I think your pieces like the piano, chairs, etc. are very traditional and your curtains would kind of clash with pink, in my opinion. BUT! It's your house, so whatever makes you happy is what matters most! 🙂
I love A or B definitely NOT C or D, yuck!
"B"….everything just pops in a subtle way…if that makes sense! 🙂 and I LOVE PINK…so in that I chose the "B" color and placement of it proves it definately is making a lovely statement. :):)
I really like "b" and I usually don't like pink and red together.
I like option B but with the dark ceiling from option C to ground it!
A or D.
I would go with red. Red is a great color for kitchens and dining rooms, wets the appetite. Not a fan of pink. It casts are really weird hue on things. Girls had a pink bathroom, it was AWFUL…we had to install a dimmer switch and they had the hardest time getting their makeup right because of the hue it cast on their faces!!
BBBBBBB!!!!!!!

Frankprice723@msn.com
I love B!
Ha… I see everyone has a different opinion! My favorites are A and D!
I say E! I'm sorry Pink is too much of a shocking color for a dining room. If you want pink then use it in fabrics or rugs. 🙂
I like B the best. Also, I like Julia's suggestion above of putting the dark ceiling of C with the red walls – drama in the dining room! And your new curtains are beautiful. Can't wait to see what you decide!
A if you have red in any adjoining rooms, if not then D or go teal green or a bluish warm purple instead!
Without question, E.
i like D (but maybe for a bedroom???? – dont shoot me)
B!
I'm with Jill… A or D… Loving both of these!! How fun! Obviously I am not scared of mixing colors. lol
xo-Kristin
I'm just not a fan of the pink at all… but I love B! I can understand your hesitancy in going with red… but what about a coral?
I'm liking the pale pink walls, but not any of those ceiling colors, sorry! So…E?
D is screaming at me and I think looks like it would flow well with the adjoining rooms. Though I do love that coral/red on the ceiling…
A or D….. but if it were my room, then E. I am just not daring enough.
Of those choices, I would say D. But the truth is, I really loved "black of night." What about dark gray walls with a light pink ceiling? I'm loving the pink/gray color combo these days!!
I am a bold color girl, so I vote for choice B.
B – Go big or go home.
I like A!!! The red on the ceiling is such an unexpected place, I think it would look fab!!!!
I love "A". Definitely A 🙂
E – I'd like to suggest pale grey walls with a red ceiling. Wasn't one of your options and I don't know why not!
I actually think the pale pink with the dark gray on the ceiling would be super cute.
D but with a dark or gray or white ceiling!
I LOVE A!!! A A A all the way!
I really like A!!! Looks great. ANd a close second is B!!
I vote B 🙂
I'm in love with your table.
What a fun app to use! My vote is for B!
I saw "B" Cassie! Go for bold! It looks terrific.
I never would have thought to paint the ceiling anything other than white but you've presented some interesting choices. I like option D the best!
Definitely Option B! I love that shade of red with the pale pink ceiling!
Tweeted! https://twitter.com/aadomestication/status/329608806600417281
A is super fun, but I love how your drapes and furniture pop against the red walls in B. Would you consider keeping the waincotting white, painting the walls above the wainscotting red and the ceiling the pale pink. That might give you the pop and drama of red, but help tie the room into the entry way. I think it would be a bit more formal…but fun!
I'm terrible at decisions!! haha and I can't decide on this either, but I like "A" I think if you want to go bold as the ceiling would be a good option. BUT I love the dark gray on the walls!! So whoever threw in option E, I'm kind of with them. Don't hate me! 🙂
OPTION A keeps the room airy and adds unexpected pop. Red walls dining room walls feel safe/dated.
The dark gray walls made my jaw hit the floor! I love darker paint colors in spaces filled with natural light. Whatever you choose will look fabulous, but I am on team dark gray, even though it wasn't a letter choice. F?
I like Option D – Walls: Pale Pink & Ceiling: Darker Pink. The room is really coming together beautifully!
I vote for B. I feel like it takes into account the vibe you have going on in the rest of the house – full of color and fun. A would be my second choice for you. Now I have to go play with that tool!!!
I really like A. It's modern and current. I love surprise ceilings. xo Kristin
I like b and d. Fun choices.
I like the grey the most. I know it wasnt an option, but the pink just isnt me. The red more than the pink. But the grey is stunning!
I really like D, the two colors of pink are divine and I think may actually be more versatile in the long run than the reds.
I am picking D girl – that is the only way to go!
I vote for pink pink pink –definitely option D!
And welcome home!
Jenny

Hmmmm…..I *think* I like B although I'm not sold on the pinky pink on the ceiling….any interest in going slightly lighter pink on the ceiling?
I did love the grey too…swoon!
Option D is my favorite!
A. You get the pink you want that relates to the other rooms but still get to try out the red. And much easier to repaint should you not like the ceiling.
I like "B" the most! Good luck choosing, it's a tough call!
I like both C and D, but I also like the idea of the dark gray walls with the medium pink ceiling (like the pink in option D). I don't think you can go wrong with such great color combinations, though!

I would go with B!
Love A and B options but I really like those red walls!! Go with B. Also love this little tool on the sherwin williams website – I will for sure be using it soon.
Oooh! Fun!
I choose a. Don't hate me, but I hate c. Sorry. 🙁
Can't wait to see what you choose!!!
tkistlerslah@yahoo.com
I like a combo of B and C – red walls and darker gray ceiling.
I really like the red walls. The red with pink ceiling or the red with gray ceiling would look amazing!
I like option D. I usually go for lighter colors because I don't grow tired of them as quickly. I think the light pinks and greys look pretty together too.

B. The red is bold and wonderful.
Honestly, I don't like any of them. I really don't like pink very much at all. Sorry I am no help!
no pink =X
I love love love option C.
elysesw@aol.com
None of the above. The red option was reading very coral on my monitor and I thought it looked great! My vote is coral!!
I think I'd like dark gray walls with a pale pink ceiling. I tried finding a sophisticated pink for my bedroom and gave up. I would think I'd have it nailed but when I would try samples on the walls everything was either baby girl pink, teenage girl angst pink, or fleshy Hannibal I want to eat you pink. I'm now trying to find a sophisticated purple and am not having much luck.
E definitely!
BBBBB!!!!
I'm going to have to agree with the people saying a combination of B and C. I love the red walls with the dark ceiling! For me, pink isn't a great color in an eating area. But if you really want pink, then B is the best option in my opinion!
Love option d with the pink ceiling!! I'm dying to paint a room pink but the bf isn't on board (yet!). Can't wait to see which one you pick!!
i love A – red ceiling is just something unexpected! bold but not very bold like B 🙂
I love A Pale Pink & Ceiling: Red.

I liked B…until you said it was red…..and now I'm not sure. It was reading as like a berry to me (definitely more pink than red). Can't wait to see what you choose!
A, definetly A.
I love B!
Tweeted it! https://twitter.com/LeHobbylobbyist/status/329760627365134336
I think I'm a fan of B. The light color on the ceiling pulls it all together.
I find fabrics I like and go from there.
I like option D. tamarsweeps-at-gmail-dot-com
I'm liking B…very unexpected but nice. I also see it as more of a coral red, but that's good!
I like A the best, but something still isn't quite right…hmmm. I know you'll figure it out! I thought it was more of a coral-y pinky red too…maybe something to consider?
Definitely B!!! Red walls are so classy and modern. But I think a light grey ceiling would be better than a pink one. It would pick up the color of the rug and it would ground the red walls.
E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the dark grey…Black of Night. Stay away from pink.
E!

Las Vegas
I have to say E because I LOVE how the room looked with the Dark of Night color – I think it complements everything that you already have in there much better than the pink or red. I'm sure it will look crazy awesome no matter what colors you choose!
A!
I love the pink and red combo but you are right, the red may be too much looking at the flow w the other rooms. Reds can be so hard too! I searched for the perfect 'Nantucket Red' for our mudroom bathroom, it sounds crazy to match a paint color to your husbands pants…. But we did! It's so fun!
Cassie…I like the D combination. I think you could possibly do the Red walls with a very very pale gray on the ceiling… I have a friend that has a BS in Art History, every dining room she has ever had was painted red, only room in her houses that color, of course; she had red accents throughout the house.
Good luck!
Vanessa
PS Yay! The anonymous option, so I can post today and not have to email! Thanks!
I love D! I like the red walls but with the pink it seems too Valentine's Day. I can't seem to get past that 🙂
B all the way! My dining room at my old house was a shade of red, and I loved it. If you're like us, you don't use the room every day, so it wouldn't be as overwhelming as a living room or kitchen where you stare at it constantly.
A is my second choice, because I'd never be allowed to do pink myself, but I do think it's an under-used color.
Looking forward to the results!
E-I really liked the "Black of Night " maybe with a very pale pink ceiling to bounce the light around more. The dark color looked so nice with the gold and red in the room. Another thought would be the dark walls with a pale blue ceiling.
B!! I love a bold and dramatic dining room!
I like B! And I too, am not usually a fan of pink and red, but I just think it really brings out the other elements in the room. Yes, it is a bit bold, but I think the room can definitely handle it. Just my two cents.
Ooooh I love "B," but "A" would be a great option if you're worried about the boldness of the red not flowing with other rooms. I know whatever you choose will be gorgeous! Hope you're having a great week, Miss Cassie!
~Abby =)
I can't decide between A and B. Can't wait to see it!
E!!! Walk away from the pink!!
B!

Oh gosh! I'm totally going to be difficult, I like the walls in D and the ceiling in C 🙂
B!!
Love your blog:)
I love option A or C. I like your sense of style and your willingness to be different!!
I love option A or C. I like your sense of style and your willingness to be different!!
I am curious to see if anyone chooses Pepto Bismol Pink in C. I really like A except w/ white ceilings…..looks very classy.
I'd go with d which feels like playing it safe! I really like the dark gray. Maybe a dark blue with white trim would look great! I'm not ready to try something so bold!
Sorry but I have to say E! Lol, I'm not too big on pink, esp in the dining room. It's a bit toooo bright, I'd go with something warmer and inviting.
My favorite was actually the "black of night." I think it would look great with a pale pink ceiling.
I like D, but it is by far the "tamest" of the four and I lean that way. Maybe you are braver than I am?

I really liked the "black of night" room, but my second choice would be "B".
Kelly Plaisance
On my monitor the color you're calling "red" looks more deeply saturated salmon / coral (which is a color i luv) but since I don't think I'm seeing the true colors being considered, I'll offer my opinion based on the balance and relationship of the "tones" to each other.
Option A appears to give the room a nice open feeling while still adding drama through the ceiling color and really highlighting the high ceiling. I think the DR is the perfect place for a bold statement / ceiling.
I like B the best.
Option A.
Skoglundmom@gmail.com
I'm gonna go with E, sorry :)) I love the dark gray!
Definitely B!!! I love it!
D. But, I do like the dark gray!
B but I also liked the gray. Good luck!
Lindsay J
Definitely the A – the red ceiling is such a great surprise!
I vote for B – bold.
B-
I love the dark color. I think you should have one really bold room. You could also just paint the door way wall into the entry the bold color and the rest the pale color. Then you would only see it while in the room if you feel it would detract from the entry or another room. Oh you weren't asking for that much info were you….. 😉
From all the choices, I like B the best…I think it work good with your painting !! I hope you can make a decision !!
b. 🙂
I like B the best!
I love option D! But I also love the room in "Showstopper." Here's something else to consider and confuse you even more…how about a rich navy color for the walls and red on the ceiling? Whatever you decide will look fabulous! Can't wait to see the finale.
I love B!!
I think you would be happiest with B…beautiful!
Of these two choices I like B best, however I really liked the charcoal walls best.
B…but can you do a soft white ceiling instead?? The pink makes me want to vomit.
A! A! A!
B – I think it looks best with the other things you have in the room.
A and D are my favorites. I love red but I'm getting a little bored with it. I saw an article a long time ago on Paul Harvey's house and his wife loved pink and used it a lot, I thought it was do beautiful and very tasteful. I also saw a pink and brown room in BH &G one time that I've really wanted to recreate. Do it!!! I am sure you will love it.
I actually like the grey one the best even though it wasn't a choice – It's so calming. Of the choices, I guess I would pick D.

I like A. I had a warm red on the ceiling in my dining room. I loved it. It made the room feel cozy and was just a little outside of the box. Dramatic, too. It's just paint. Try it. It only takes a weekend to change it up if you don't like it.
I actually love the picture with the dark grey walls!! Then maybe add your pink color to the ceiling.
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

Well, (b) as in in the 'Showstopper' red, but don't paint the ceiling pink – use a grey tone that picks up a little blue.
