{Dining Room} Let There Be Light

Hey, hey friends! Hope everyone had an amazing weekend! We had a fun date night, I started some Fall decorating, and our contractor hung the new Dining Room chandelier!

I’ll catch you up, in case you don’t have all my posts committed to memory. Here’s the Dining Room with a blast-from-the-past chandelier, courtesy of the previous owners.

chandy-before

I tried disguising it with a bunch of crappola, before finally spraying it black and making new sleeves.

And while that was better, I never loved it. So one day I got sick of it entirely and just had the darn thing taken down. Oh, and we added new chairs and changed up the lamps along the way. I stopped there because technically this room wasn’t getting a makeover yet.

But turns out it’s difficult to use a room in the evening without much light. So I accidentally bought a chandelier on One Kings Lane, and then Rugs USA offered to send me a new rug. So all of a sudden my Dining Room was getting a makeover. (Here are the room boards I’m toying with, courtesy of Amanda Carol Interiors.)

I love the light and airiness of the Crystorama Solaris chandelier, and
the modern touch it brings to my traditional Dining Room.

It may be a bit high, I’m on the fence about the crystal hanging from the bottom, and don’t be shocked if I Rub ‘n’ Buff it, but really…..I’m crazy about it! As soon as it was up, I could literally see all the things I want to do to this room!

Why yes, that is a toy block holding up the broken leg of the piano. Not sure what to do about that. And yes, the piano is missing the front cover. Mr. Sugarplum likes to make sure the neighbors can hear him play.

And since the new rug is in route, it’s time to concede this room is
in full makeover mode. Along with the Breakfast Room, Den and Living Room. I’m not ready to make a full To-Do List yet, but adios drapes, wall color and lampshade! So who’s coming for dinner, now that you can actually see what I’m serving?

PS…Shelly at Crazy Wonderful has a similar chandy…and I know you can buy these orb lights at Z. Gallerie, Restoration Hardware and Ballard (but the OKL price was better).

***I shared this project with Sarah,
the best link party in town!***

i would totally leave it as is – seriously i think the crystal hanging off makes it perfect. you dont want it obstructing the view so i think the crystal addds the extra length. and the block and piano / well i totally luv that you captured and posted it, makes me feel normal with my crazy fix-its.

  6. Loving how it has already transformed! I didn't hate the old light at all, but I like the new one as well. My breakfast room chandy from zgallerie had the bottom crystal like that. I didn't use it. But, I could change my mind one day.

  7. So cool, Cassie! The perfect updated touch for your dining room. Love the mix of modern and traditional that you are incorporating. As much as I love shiny and blingy things, I think I would remove the crystal. It seems like it was added on as an afterthought, not part of the original fixture. But, that's just my two cents! So excited to see this room come together after going back and looking at your design boards.

  8. Looks so good!! I just purchased a similar chandelier for a client from Ballard Designs. It is funny because I have the same lamp in my kitchen that you spray painted and was thinking about doing that to mine, until I can spend some money a purchase a nicer chandelier. Check out the chandelier I used for my client http://www.idesignlove.com/2012/09/17/client-update/

I've been following your blog for several months now for some decorating inspiration. I love your home and your new light fixture in your dining room. But I have to agree with Jennifer – I'd remove the crystal hanging from the bottom. It does look like it was added as an afterthought, plus I think it's distracting and takes away from the simple beauty of the chandelier. And again…just another reader's 2 cents worth! Your dining room is beautiful!

  11. Looks great Cassie! I think I prefer it without the crystal though. You might want to check your hardware store for adjustable feet which you can screw into your piano, you know, in case someone wants their block back 😉

  28. Hi Mrs. W — We actually found it at a quirky store in Dallas that specializes in global-type stuff….it weighs about a million pounds!
I know that doesn't help you where you are, but might give you an idea of new places to check.

  29. I am over the moon for that fixture! It is amazing in your space! I have been searching high and low for something similar and unique {ours is blah builder grade}. I will have to keep my eyes peeled on OKL.

  30. It looks freaking amazing in there!!!!!! Do you walk by and stop to stare like a hundred times a day? I did! I'm now thinking I need to get my hands on some of those round light bulbs after seeing yours. It really looks killer, and I could TOTALLY see it rubbed 'n' buffed gold. And, how sweet are you for the shout out. Thank you 🙂

    • Hi Brittany — I found that runner at Z. Gallerie last year! World Market is my other fave spot for finding cool runners!
      Hope this helps!
