Date Day Style

How is it already Monday?! This weekend flew by way too fast. Between Homecoming and the new puppy, things were busy around here. And with the kids all of a sudden having major social lives, it’s been awhile since Mr. SP and I had a night out.

My birthday is next week, and I told him all I want is a day date with him. But in our house, day dates are more than just a quick lunch or matinee movie…it’s basically the equivalent of a ‘Yes Day.’ You know that book? It’s a full day where one person calls the shots, and there’s no complaining!

Mine consists of sleeping in, brunch on a patio, massage, movie (complete with popcorn and Milk Duds), tacos and margaritas (preferably on another patio), and ends with Netflix and a foot rub on the couch. Oh, and I don’t do a single chore pertaining to the house or kids the entire day. Did I just describe the perfect day, or what?! I can hardly wait!

And while I love to get dressed up to go out, Day Dates are usually fairly casual…so I go with boots and a sweater, and Mr. SP sticks with pullovers and jeans. That way we’re comfortable, but also prepared in case I decide on some place a little nice. Because that’s the deal with Yes Day…I can change plans on a whim!

On Mr. SP: Zip-Up Jacket | Plaid Shirt | Jeans | Boots | Sunglasses | Watch
On Me: Dolman Sleeve Sweater | Tassel Necklace | Jeans | Boots | Sunglasses | Bag

I shared this dolman sleeve sweater in last week’s Dressing Room Diaries, and had to keep it for myself. It’s so soft with a fun shape, and the color so unexpected (and pretty!) for Fall. You’ve seen a lot of the tassel necklace lately, too…it just seems to go with everything!

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS sweater, but I would actually recommend sizing down. (They just added an XXS.)

Don’t ask me about his un-tied shoes…some things we wives just have to accept. I’m just thrilled he’s finally wearing a slimmer fitting jean! Mr. SP is a life-long, hard-core fan of relaxed jeans (the baggier the better). #boo

But by some miracle, I found a style of slim jeans that he’ll not only wear, but actually loves wearing! He says these are slim through the leg, but not constricting in the thighs and bum. In fact, he chooses them over his relaxed fit jeans most of the time now! I seriously might have to write Nordstrom a thank you note.

Jeans | Boots

I’ve had some requests for higher-waisted jeans, and these were my favorites, by far! They fall just above the belly button, so there’s gaping or wardrobe malfunctions, and they also hold the pesky lower tummy in! I like the light wash and distressing (just at the knee), but I’m still undecided on the stair-step hem. I mostly tuck them in boots, or cuff the ankle so it’s even all around.

Fit Tip: The jeans are true to size, really soft, and with a lot of stretch. I’m wearing a 26.

This peacoat needs no introduction…I’ve only been raving about it for years. In fact, this is my third color. You honestly can’t find a more chic coat for the price (it’s $38!!!), and I’m mildly obsessed with this new blush shade.

Fit Tip: I size up for extra layering room. I’m wearing a small.

These stone stairs remind me of the spot in Nashville where we had our wedding portraits taken…almost 20 years ago! This man has been saying, ‘Yes’ to me for a lot of years. What would your Yes Day look like? Do you slip away for Day Dates, or usually reserve them for evening?

P.S. Nordstrom is having a huge Fall Clearance Sale, with up to 40% off tons of favorites, including this peacoat, a great turtleneck tunic, the perfect moto jacket, and Hunter boots! Even the leopard rug from my Foyer is on sale!
