Summer of Style | 07

I don’t know about you, but a fair amount of my Summer is actually spent wearing a swimsuit. Between the pool and lake, the basis of my weekend outfits mostly revolve around a swimsuit, hat, some sort of cover-up…and of course, sunscreen.

This Summer of Style series, easy-to-create combinations to inspire your Summer wardrobe, is meant to cover all aspects of your life…work, weekend, date night, and lazy pool/beach days. And today I’m sharing how I style my swimsuit when we’re on the water and beyond. Not to be confused with to infinity and beyond. #toystoryanyone?

I’m a fan of modest bikinis (is that an oxymoron?!), but a black one-piece will forever be the most chic option. I use any number of styling options….from traditional cover-ups, jean shorts, and even skirts…to transition from pool to dinner.

Sugarplum Style Tip: Don’t underestimate the power of a hat, statement earring and lipstick to cover the evidence of your fun day in the water! I pull my hair back in a messy bun, and let a hat cover the rest. These pics were literally snapped by my son after spending all day at the lake.

A darling beach bag can add a lot to your outfit, but what you pack inside is even more important! Mine is usually stuffed with towels, drinks, snacks, goggles, a book, and plenty of sunscreen. My love of Supergoop is no surprise around here, I was introduced to it a few years ago, and now use it almost-exclusively!

It’s made with all healthy ingredients, like shea butter and avocado oil, so it feels good going on. But more importantly, Supergoop is completely dedicated to UVA protection…those are the rays that cause 90% of aging and most skin cancers. Did you know that it only takes five sunburns to double your risk of melanoma?! I’m shuddering thinking of the years I spent baking in the sun!

Their newest product, and our family-favorite, is the sunscreen mousse. It’s light as air, goes on easily, and absorbs quickly. My kids love it because it doesn’t leave them feeling sticky, and I love the 50 SPF and water resistance.

Plus, it’s fun to put on…so I don’t have to chase them down to apply it!

I love a good two-piece (this one is my favorite this Summer), but sometimes a girl needs to be able to move around without fear of a wardrobe malfunction! It was an exhaustive search, but I finally found one that was both comfortable and flattering. It has figure-sculpting bands across the front (hello, waistline!), and built-in cups to provide support and shape. I’ve gone from owning no one-pieces, to now wanting this one in a second color! (The pink is on sale, so I’m kind of obligated.) #girlmath

Fit Tip: I usually size up one in swimsuits, especially one-pieces because I have a longer torso. I’m wearing a 4 in this suit.

One-piece swimsuits style essentially the same as a tank top, so they look darling with any style skirt, as well as shorts. I throw on a cotton button-up for extra coverage when needed.

Spending the day with my favorites by the water…is there anything better?! Are you a bikini or one-piece girl? Are you obsessive about sunscreen with your kids, too?

Wow – just love this post – I had no idea SuperGoop came in a mousse format! I’m going to scoop up a bunch for our summer! P.S. What size do you have that lovely skirt in? and P.P.S. Do you have a small head or regular? I’d love to get that hat but I have the world’s smallest head!

Super cute, Cassie. I love that black suit. A black one piece has been my go-to for years. I also love supergoop. I can wear it daily as lotion and not feel like I have greasy sunscreen on.

  4. I’m OBSESSED with Supergoop. It’s the only product that doesn’t break Carter out in a little rash. And you look amazing in that suit! You’re right…it’s so chic!

This suit looks amazing! The Supergoop looks great-putting sunscreen on kids is up there with one of my least favorite things to do-the mousse looks like it would make it tons easier! Sooo, I’m a tankini- girl but you might have convinced me to try a one piece. I like the look of one pieces but the convenience of tankinis for rest room use and the fit.

I am also obsessed with sun screening my children! I have very “Irish” skin that I have passed on to my 3 kiddos. The sun is so not my friend, but I love it so much! I have had 2 patches of skin cancer removed now which makes me so anxious about prevention. We have a little place on a Lake and spend tons of time on the water and in the sun in the summer time. I have never heard of Supergoop before, but will check it out! Can you only buy it online?

I have to say, that the picture of ‘just the girls’ on the dock is darling! You may want to consider getting it framed!

Being a redhead, I’m so with you on the ‘why did I bake in the sun for all those years’ regrets. If only I had worn a hat and put on sunscreen…but it’s not like I would have listened back then! #stubbornthatway

I love this look, it’s a perfect black and white look with accessories to make a statement. I was actually surprised when I scrolled through the photos and found out that the top is a bathing suit… genius idea and it looks beautiful. I actually have dark skin, I’m Puerto Rican but wear sunscreen on my face everyday, even the cloudy days. I’m 33 and started doing it a couple years ago, geez in my twenties I used to sit out there and bake. Surprisingly I’m still getting dark with the sunscreen… should of, would of, could of. I too love Supergoop’s products, thanks for sharing these beautiful photos.

I grabbed a different style from this same brand and I love it. I have an older suit as well and have been very pleased with how well it has held up. Adorable as always and those little angel kisses on your girls nose….ahhhhh.

I’m sure you already know, but the Supergoop Sunscreen Mist is part of the Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale…a great discount on a package of three. I have had excellent luck with the fit of LaBlanca swimwear. The higher cut is leg lengthening and hip slimming!
