Sugarplum Picks

Cheers to Friday!! So excited to finally make it to the end of this crazy week…it’s been full of non-stop taxi-driving, an ear infection, roadside assistance, and absurd deadlines. Tomorrow the kids and I head to the beach with nothing but swimsuits and t-shirts, and I couldn’t be more excited or ready!

But first, we have some business to tackle around here, because ya’ll…it’s the final weekend of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! That means Monday it’s full price for all these darling Fall (and some Summer) pieces! And ain’t nobody got time for full price! Now is your chance to scoop up wardrobe staples for the upcoming seasons…while it’s still up to 40% off! And even better, much of the sale has been restocked!

The last few Fashion Fridays have been Texas-sized Dressing Room Diaries, where my darling mom and I reviewed tons of the best items in the sale. Today I thought I’d share what I’ll likely keep, and what I would keep if only I had a money tree. Or a sugar daddy. Either would work just fine.

The sale has some really great investment pieces, but funny enough, this little t-shirt is what I scooped up first. In several colors. #oops (My tote is on sale now, too)

Fit Tip: I’m wearing an XS, and it fits great, even after drying.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Here’s the tee in white, paired with the cutest cut-out booties and color blocked clutch. And you don’t need me to tell you how much I love a good field jacket.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

This oversized sweater is so cozy, but still subtly sexy, and looks great with all styles of boots, and even white jeans.
Fit Tip: Runs large, I’m wearing an XXS.

This striped number has a similar look, but a little sportier.

I styled this versatile top with a skirt for workday here, but I love it even more with jeans. I’m tempted to order a colorful patterned one while still on sale.
Fit Tip: I found my normal size to fit like a long tunic, so I sized down to XXSP for jeans and skirts.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries
I love it with heels for a casual date night, or with booties for weekend.

I love the long-sleeve version of the top just as much, with both jeans and leggings. And I fully expect to be living in both these grey jeans and leggings next season. The leggings are extra-thick (no skin showing through!) with a wide, elastic waistband, and the jeans so soft and stretchy.

Fit Tip: The blouse fits like a tunic in my regular size, or regular shirt length when sized down. Both the jeans and leggings are true-to-size, I’m wearing a 26 and XS, respectively.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

I just found these mid-rise bootcut jeans this week, and am completely smitten! They fit almost like a trouser, but comfy like your softest, stretchy jeans. It’s refreshing to be in grown-up jeans for a change. 😉 (Hey mom, you need to try these!)

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries
Hello, darling swing top, on sale for $23! The gray jeans are a fun alternative to traditional denim, don’t you think?
Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Of course they look great with black and white.

It’s safe to say this won’t be my last plaid shirt for Fall…and love the sass over-the-knee boots add to the casual outfit.

The criss-cross front of this funnel neck sweater gives it a little edge, and is flattering on the waistline.
Fit Tip: I sized up to a small so the sweater would fully cover my stomach.

It doesn’t get much cuter, or easier, than a plaid shirtdress and booties for Fall.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries
I first nabbed this cowlneck swing dress in black, and styled for a night out here…and loved it so much I went back for stripes. I’ll add a jean jacket when the temps cool down, and continue pairing it with both booties and my favorite sneakers.

Fit Tip: Sizing up gives you a bit more length, but also adds more volume through the middle. I’m wearing an XS in both.
Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

As for active wear, I always use the sale to grab one or two new Zella pieces…and this year it’s capri pants and this cute mesh-back jacket.
Fit Tip: I wear my usual size in Zella bottoms, but size up one in tops.

Hi Sugarplum | Dressing Room Diaries

Next I asked Mama Sugarplum which were her fave pieces (which I’m pretty sure all went home with her!)…and these were her picks.
This funnel neck tunic is a great top layer (I especially like it over a striped tee!), and she said the side slits made it fun, and not too hot.

Not the best pic of this poncho, but it’s gorgeous in person, with fun fringe and vibrant jewel tones.

Mom was a huge fan of this blouse, too, and grabbed it in multiple colors and patterns!
Fit Tip: She sized down one.

She loved the long-sleeved version as a tunic with her favorite leggings, too. Hmmm, our list of favorites is looking strangely similar!

I love this black and white plaid on her, and she loved the full coverage of the boyfriend fit.

These black pants were defiantly her best work wear find…such a flattering fit with slit back pockets, and just enough kick in the pant leg to elongate. We both took the block heel patent pumps home…such a great staple at an amazing price (they come in neutral and other colors, too).

I’m already scheming how to sneak this gray field jacket from her closet.

But the piece she’s most excited to wear next season (well, besides the snakeskin booties), is this gorgeous cowlneck sweater. I can’t blame her…it’s a stunner in person.

And of course, my other favorite pieces you’ve already seen styled in recent posts here and here, and are back-in-stock!

See why I need a sugar daddy? So much great stuff, I want to keep it all!! And don’t get me started on home and accessory items like these candles and these earrings…I did a little early Christmas shopping thanks to those great deals!

What’d you scoop up during The Big Sale? I can’t believe they finally restocked so many great items…what things do you still have your eye on? I hope you’ve enjoyed my reviews & sale posts, and fingers-crossed I can sweet-talk my mom back in the dressing room with me! Happy weekend shopping, lovebugs!

    • I hardly ever wear flats…unless it's tennies or sandals, but maybe I'll have to try them! I think they are too cute for words!

Mama Sugarplum looks more like Sister Sugarplum. I agree with Shay that she needs her own blog. You're both so beautiful

It's been fun to see your mom in fashion posts and so helpful to see clothes on a different body type (a little closer to mine!). I bought black booties and white jeans and am thinking of sneaking back and getting some beige booties. You style them so well with white jeans … it's kind of like I HAVE TOO.

  7. Is the white t- shirt see through? Do you need to wear a Cami under it?

    • The white is a bit more sheer than the other colors and the stripes, but I don't have any issues when wearing with a nude bra! xoxo

I looked at the field jacket, so thanks for featuring it – still trying to decide! If you (or kids) still have an ear infection, try a clear-pop (unmedicated) to open the eustachian tubes.
