ONE MORE DAY! Tomorrow is the launch of the Gibson x Hi Sugarplum ‘Home for the Holidays‘ Collection (but who’s counting!? #me!). Today I thought it would be fun to take you behind the scenes, and share a bit of the design process and photoshoot. Not to mention, the incredible cabin we rented as the backdrop.
The design process for ‘Home for the Holidays‘ actually started in June… before we even launched our ‘Celebrate Summer‘ Collection! So while I was shooting and talking about Summer pieces, I was also dreaming up Holiday! (Something similar is happening now, as we’re already hard at work on Collection #8!)
In ‘normal’ times, it’s tricky enough to predict trends, and determine your needs several seasons out. Throw a pandemic in the mix, and it’s downright nerve-racking! We had no idea what our world had in store the next week, let alone months down the line!!
So we set out to create a Collection that both met us where we were, and where we hoped we’d be… whether that’s cozy at home, or celebrating with loved ones. Regardless, we wanted to design pieces that captured the feelings of joy and magic of the season. Plus, we all want quality pieces that will last beyond the season, and become closet staples for years to come.
The incredible design team at Gibsonlook blew me away with their initial mood board presentation, and together we fine-tuned every piece until it was exactly right… from inception to sketches to fabric and color selections to fit! Hours upon hours were poured in to this Collection, and all via Zoom! Well, that and daily Fed-Ex deliveries! And I couldn’t be more proud of what we created!!
After months of designing and fitting the pieces, it’s time to bring it to life so we can share it with YOU!! The photoshoot is the finishing piece, and this dream team makes it happen. Val and Suzie arrived and we set out for our cabin in the woods… with a few fun road trip stops along the way.

We searched far and wide for a location to shoot this Collection… we needed something cozy, but also a little glam, and of course private. When we stumbled on this house, ‘Inspiration Lodge,’ we knew we had a winner. But we were still blown away by how incredible it was in person.
And as it turned out, it was the absolute perfect backdrop for ‘Home for the Holidays.’ In fact, the majority of the Collection was shot on that beautiful front porch!

Everything about this house was luxury and top-of-the-line, including the owners! Once we arrived and stopped gawking, it was time to get to work! Mama Sugarplum had everything hung and organized in no time.
Fun Sidenote: Not one thing required steaming… ‘Home for the Holidays‘ packed like a dream!!

Once I was dressed… this Dream Team (including Mama Sugarplum) worked tirelessly to capture every piece in the Collection. For the next 12 hours, I was primped and posed by the best! My gosh I love these girls!!!

It’s always an honor to have Val shooting our Collections… she is insanely talented and her photos brought the Collection to life! She radiates more joy and kindness than anyone I’ve ever met, and has such a passion for what she does. Everyone should have the joy of knowing her, and the feeling of being seen through her lens.
Fun Fact: I actually met Val 5 years ago on our first trip with Princess Cruises, and we instantly clicked. When I got my first Collection with Gibson, I thought of her immediately! She then introduced me to Suzie as her make-up artist of choice to work with… and the rest is girl-crush history! A day doesn’t go by we don’t FaceTime or MarcoPolo.

We wrapped before sunset the last night, and raced over to enjoy Beavers Bend State Park, and hiked the beautiful Friends Trail. (Read more about that HERE.)

It’s humbling to be surrounded by such kind, talented women, with so much passion for their jobs and respect for each other! To bring a Collection to life requires a lot of moving parts, and I couldn’t have done it without the entire Gibsonlook Team and these gals. All my gratitude to everyone for their patience, talents, support, and unlimited enthusiasm for this project. I’m beyond proud of what we’ve created together, and can’t wait to share the fruits of our labor!
