Okay, so yesterday you saw the wall portion of Babygirl’s Art Center. Next she needed a work surface, and preferably a comfy, small (tiny corner of the room, remember?) one. Since I always try to shop my house first (yes I do, Mr. Sugarplum!!!), I was delighted to find a breakfast tray in the back of our pantry.
Now, I won’t turn this into some sort of neglected wife rant…but I will say, we received that tray as a wedding gift in 1998 (I’ll do the math for you, that’s almost 13 years ago), and I have yet to sit on the receiving end of the tray! Just sayin’.
So needless to say, the tray wasn’t being properly utilized. (And why yes, of course I serve Mr. Sugarplum breakfast in bed every Saturday morning! Don’t you for your spouse?!?)*
I simply painted it with leftover paint from her bed, and glued a strip of ribbon around the edge for more graphic punch. Now she can sit near her colors and create.
The great thing about the tray, is it wipes clean almost like a dry-erase board. I guess that’s in case you spill your breakfast on it!
We seem to have misplaced some hardware for the bottom portion of the chalkboard, so I’ll be thinking of a Plan B for that. For now, she’s happy to have her own personal spot!
This corner is definitely coming together, but I’m trying to make it more comfy with some no-sew pillows. Oh yeah, it’s as big of a trainwreck as it sounds!
***I’m sharing this with Jen’s Trash to Treasure party!***

i love the color you used on it! what a fun place to create! can i come over and play?
So so cute- any child would love to have their own little art corner like the one you created- so fun.
That corner has really come together! You smartie, finding a way to keep those kiddos out of your hair ;). I'm sure she absolutely loves it!
It looks so cute! What a fun little corner for her to sit and be artistic 🙂 I love it.
adorable! i'm so impressed with all of your diy and how quick you pull them together. i've been working on one for about a week now and have yet to finish!
Cassie, you never cease to amaze me with you skills! Fabulous idea!! Now your baby girl can go get creative in her corner!
Well, isn't that clever! I'm loving this little area and some comfy floor cushions would definitely be the perfect finishing touch.
So stinking brilliant, Cass. Love this idea. I might need one for Lil, but you know I'll just buy one cause I ain't got your skillz 😉
amazing what a little paint will do! you are so creative!
Such a great idea – the bedroom is coming together so nicely! xo
I am sure that the pillows will turn out great. I am so bad at sewing that "no sew" tape scares me 🙂
It looks great, girl! You're just so creative. I love how even the tray matches that pink you've got going on in accents!
Looks great! What a brilliant idea!
What a great idea. My kids have been using my laptop lap desk when they color. May have to find some little trays like this instead!
Looks great!! I would have loved this as a kid!! I definitely got some paint on my carpet from my craft-y adventures haha
Super d duper clever. What a great spot to get inspired in.
Ingenius! I love that color! And really, do they even need any more space than that? Especially when it's portable!
Too funny…we have those SAME trays that we received as a wedding gift too, only IN 1988!!! I love them painted out. I have to admit…they've come in handy for when Kate's been in bed with her migraines though.
I want a crafts corner like that! Very cute, Cassie. What a fun space for your daughter to create her master pieces!
Such a clever idea! And bummer that the tray wasn't used for breakfast in bed more often…
Super cute! I bet she loves it.

Adorable! Such a great way to re-purpose the tray!
Such a fun space and so adorable, Cassie!

What a cute little area! Love the tray 🙂 Just found you over at remodelaholic!!
Love the tray as as lap desk. The color is really nice, charming for a little princess. The art corner is very cute, very inspiring to get creative! Well done.
Idk if this is 2 late, but for the bottom of the chalkboard you could cut a piece of cork and hot glue it in that little area. I really love your daughters room!! Thank you for sharing it with everyone, I'm sure it takes alot of time and effort to maintain ur site!
I have seen those trays all over the place and have never once thought of this genius idea. Love that you used it for the kids, smart smart gal you are! It turned out simply fantastic!
xoxo!
Jen
Cute! Love the color you chose – thanks for the idea!
Could you tell me the size of the tray? I must do this. Thanks
HI Angela! I’m so sorry, but this post is almost nine years old, so we don’t have this tray anymore! From the photos, I would guess it’s about one foot by two feet?? Hope that helps! xo, Cassie
