A Mother-Daughter Afternoon

Welcome back to a new week, friends. I hope you had a fabulous weekend! Can you believe we’re a week away from Christmas already? This final stretch is actually my favorite time of the holiday, when the excitement and spirit is practically tangible.

We’ve yet to do our annual ice skating date or check out holiday lights, so lots of festive is on the agenda for this week! But I’d be lying if I didn’t say this holiday is a little clouded with the first anniversary of losing my dad. I can’t believe he’s been gone a year. And I wonder if every Christmas moving forward will have an element of sadness of what could have been.

I’d like to say I’ve made peace with the complicated nature of our relationship, but a year later, it still holds the same sting. But one thing the last year has taught me, is just how unbelievably grateful I am for my mom and our healthy, supportive relationship.

She had me at a young age, and I’m her only child, so we’ve always been naturally close. But as I grew older, our relationship shifted to one of genuine friendship…but I still know she’s always got my back with the unconditional love of a mother.

She never gives unsolicited advice, but has plenty to say when I do ask her! She exemplifies true kindness and a positive outlook, and even though she and I are very different in a lot of ways, that’s one area I strive to be just like her.

I love having her on the blog and collaborating on projects, and am especially grateful by how much you’ve embraced her! But how can you not love Mama Sugarplum!? #amIright?!

Our favorite way to spend an afternoon together has always been lunch and shopping…and I’d say we’re pretty good at it! And yes, she’s always been this stinking cute!

We recently hit up the darling boutiques of downtown McKinney Square for an afternoon of Christmas shopping and lunch. This sweater has the cutest speckled pattern, with a loose neck and side slits. It’s a true Winter sweater, and extra warm. The jeans are a dark rinse with no distressing, and a comfortable mid-rise.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing XS.

Mama SP loves longer tops, and has been wearing this hooded tunic on repeat with both jeans and leggings, and it’s 50% off! The layered chambray gives it a little extra style and pop of color.

Fit Tip: She’s wearing an XS.ย

I’m thrilled to tell you these darling booties are finally available online! The low heel is just enough to give you a little bump in height, while still being comfortable for all-day wear. I love boots with the V in front, too, for the leg-lengthing effect.

Fit Tip: True to size

Downtown McKinney Square has no shortage of delicious cafes and restaurants, but Patina Green is one of our favorites. The Food Network declared their Grilled Ham and Cheese the best sandwich in Texas…and we’d have to agree (hickory smoked ham, smoked cheddar, and jalapeรฑo peach jelly on jalapeรฑo cheddar loaf)!

But no matter what we do, it’s always a fun time with Mama Sugarplum! One of us usually ends up wetting our pants. That’s normal, right?! Do you have special days with your mom or daughter? What do you like to do together?
