The next round of One Room Challenge starts in a few weeks, and I can’t wait to see who’s participating, and watch the magic unfold. Being part of the ORC last year was a highlight for me, not to mention, motivation to complete two rooms! Without deadlines, I tend to lolly-gag. #shocker
One of the perks of the Challenge is getting to work with stellar brands and talented artists. I love every inch of this room I created with Kristin, but when Dara Burriss’s original art arrived, we knew we had something special.

The room has several unexpected, show-stopping pieces that garnered a lot of attention, and really made the space what it is…the yellow drapes, purple rug, and bookcases in high-gloss navy blue. (Find the room’s full Source List here)

Not to mention the oversized mirror and fabulous textiles. But the thing that garnered the most comments and reaction was Dara’s art.
I wrote about meeting Dara Burriss here, and was thrilled she wanted to be part of this room. We presented her with the moodboard of the space, and she created the most perfect piece that literally takes my breath away every time I see it. In person the colors are intense and reflective, and the movement of the pattern is mesmerizing. It’s hard to put into words the emotion it creates. Even Little Miss is always staring at it, and studying it up close.
Many people (from all over the world, isn’t that crazy?!?!) were just as taken with it, and wanted their very own Dara Burriss! Her site is full of stunning options, and she offers commissioned pieces…heck, Neiman Marcus even sells a few…but the problem was, everyone wanted this exact piece! And they sure as heck weren’t getting mine! #overmydeadbody
Dara’s pieces are one-of-a-kind, and there’s no way she could duplicate the pattern, colors and process exactly for another piece. Not to mention, an original is pretty pricey! (Rightfully so!)
Enter Canvas Kick, a local company I’ve known and worked with professionally for years, that has mastered the art of beautiful canvas prints! For just the fraction of the cost of an original, you can own a piece of Dara’s art…including my ‘All I Need is a Miracle.’
Dara and Canvas Kick worked tirelessly perfecting the colors and quality of each of her canvas prints. To my untrained eye, I can barely tell a difference between their canvas prints and my original. You can not only select your canvas size (extra-large options available!), but take it a step further if you wish, and have the artist hand-sign the piece, then finish it off with a thick, glossy resin.
And the cool part is, not only do you have a Dara Burriss of your very own for less (that will literally transform your room #promise), but they ‘kick back’ a portion of every sale to the artist’s charity of choice (hence the name, Canvas Kick). Dara has chosen to kick back a percentage of her sales to Melanoma Cancer Research, in honor of her brother.
Canvas Kick is adding new pieces and artists all the time, so I’m always stalking their site!
Carolyn Joe is another Dallas artist who has my heart…I just go crazy for all that color! What was your favorite part of my One Room Challenge? Have you lusted after a Dara Burriss of your own?
*Thank you for the gorgeous photos, Mary Summers!*
That room just never gets old for me. I could look at pics of it all day long!
I love this room every time I see it! The artwork is beautiful!!
The artwork really is a show stopper! I love the navy book cases!
What a beautiful room!
I really like the twin chairs at the start of the room and yours are just perfection! I'm drawn to twin chairs in any room I see. But, I wonder how close to the room's entrance one can get away with placing them? Would you consider showing a look from the hallway that shows the opening of the room? I'm sure that doesn't make as pretty of a picture. Is there plenty of room to walk around the chairs to get to the sofa? How about a blog post on this- functional furniture placement? 😉
I'm crazy for those chairs, too! And they worked great for creating a divider between the open room & foyer behind it. If you check the Room Reveal post (linked in this post), you'll find a lot more pics, including some from the staircase that show all the furniture placement in relation to the foyer behind it. Hope this helps!!
I LOVE the combo of those pillows! I don't know how I ever missed that! Also, you rock a tulle skirt like nobody's business. So cute!
You have boundless energy. I adore this room, and the art. So well done. XO Linda
Great option for reproducing a lovely print- however how would one frame it like yours? Assuming a frame shop would be my only option but thinking that would be quite expensive?
Yes, you'd likely need to take it to a frame shop. But they look great unframed, as well, bc you can see the paint drips on the edges of the canvas. xo
Gorgeous! Omg! The rug is to die for. Where can I find one?
Thank you!! You can find the exact rug here: http://bit.ly/1UEMQad
Thank you for sharing! Would you mind letting me know the size of the print? Thank you!
It's a whopping 40×40! Go big or go home, right?! 🙂 xo
