{Fall DIY} Scented Pinecone Wreath

Pinterest has become the latest online obsession. Or time sucker, which ever you prefer. I have the app on my phone and spend quite a bit of time pinning amazing ideas…but rarely do I execute any of them. It seems once an idea is pinned, I just move on to the next. Which is completely ridiculous since the whole reason I pinned it was to remember to do it!

stop pinning, start doing

Young House Love and Bower Power issued a Pinterest Challenge, so I decided to get off the computer and DIY something I’d pinned. With Fall upon us, I scoured through my Pinterest Fall Board (creatively named, I must say) and settled on this pretty pinecone wreath, made by V and Co. Vanessa’s is lovely, but I decided to give mine a slightly different twist, by using cinnamon scented pinecones!

I thought of using pipe insulation as the wreath form, but since my Halloween Yarn Wreath didn’t exactly hold it’s shape, I decided against it. The hollow foam is probably too flimsy for the weight of 1087 pinecones, too.

Believe it or not, I had this grapevine-style form in my stash. It used to be a ticky-tacky Christmas wreath from a clearance bin, but I saw through her bad outfit and got it for the body underneath.

Since I don’t have an abundance of pine trees nearby, I picked up two bags of cinnamon-scented mini-pinecones from Michaels. They have a curved shape, so I just glue-gunned (yes, that’s a verb) them one at a time to the form, piecing them together like a puzzle.

After the top was filled in, I glued some of the smallest pinecones to the inner and outer edge. The wreath form does show through in some spots, so I prefer the grapevine base better than painted styrofoam. It just seems more natural.

She’s actually hanging on the Living Room secretary by the front door, where the cinnamon smell is a nice welcome.

The wreath weighs a few pounds, so a good sturdy ribbon is necessary to hang it.

Thanks Sherry and Katie for the Pinterest Challenge…I’m thrilled to have a real-life Pinecone Wreath instead of a virtual one!
Feel free to follow my Pinterest boards if you’re interested in more mindless pinning ideas! But kiss the rest of your day good-bye…and don’t say you weren’t warned!
