Sugarplum Style, Vol. 27

Cheers to Friday! What do you have planned for the weekend? We’ve got a whole lot of nothing planned, and I couldn’t be happier about it! Oh, and after your response to Monday’s post, I realized I was obviously missing something, so some of you will be relieved to know I finally watched my first episode of Fixer Upper last night! It’s safe to say a marathon of it is in my future! #hooked

Today it’s your monthly dose of Sugarplum Style…snapshots of my everyday outfits I post to Instagram and Facebook, created by mixing-and-matching items in my closet. And I guess the new season has me more excited than usual to get dressed, because this is a doozy!

Off-the-shoulder tops are everywhere this season, and I figured this cute top for only $17 was an easy way to try it out for myself. I did feel a little awkward at first, but got over it quickly. And I’ve been wearing these jeans non-stop…they are so soft and stretchy, and I adore the frayed hem and ankle length. My friend, Jen, tried mine on last week, and promptly ordered a pair of her own.

Fit Tip: Size down one in the jeans, unless you like a droopy crotch.

Jeans and a tee are so easy and comfy, but little details like lace and tassels make the outfit special.

Stripes and Floral will always be my favorite combo…and these boots make rainy days even more fun.

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
Who’s ready for Summer?! I know we’re counting down the days! This was one of my go-to dresses last year, and I was excited to see back-in-stock.
Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
My best tip for making casual or exposed dresses work-appropriate? Add a jean jacket!

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
I took both of these dresses to Florida last week…they pack small, never wrinkle, and work for so many occasions. I threw one on for dinner, and another served as a pool cover-up.

Fit Tip: The armholes are lower in some colors for some reason, so I’ve started wearing this bra, and it works like a charm!

Pom Pom Clutch (use code SUGARPLUM for 20% off!)

Date Nighting in this floral, flowy number. I dressed it down another time with this white jacket and nude wedges.

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
Laid back jeans and a tee, this time with tassels on my toes and bag. #gimmeallthetassels

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
You know you’re excited for Summer when you start building outfits just for fun…but I couldn’t wait to pair this darling puka-shell clutch with something!

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style

I did some girlfriend-brunching, and tossed back the most delicious grapefruit juleps, in this layered look. Seriously, that drink went down alarmingly fast and easy!! #hiccup

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
Funny, I didn’t know my shirt had a bleach stain on it until now. Oh well, if I didn’t notice, no one else did either, right?! These shorts are my go-to brand, and I pick up a new pair or two every year. This time I went straight to the stripes! (See my Dressing Room Diaries for fit review.)

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
I can’t seem to refrain from singing the praises of these white jeans…and from the flood of emails and comments I’ve received, you all agree! Literally every email has been, ‘You were right…they are the perfect white jeans!!’ Listen, I don’t play around when it comes to white jeans, they are serious business! đŸ˜‰

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style

Synchronized posers. And again with the jeans…but to find a pair of ankle-length jeans that are actually ankle-length on me, is a pretty big victory. #petiteproblems

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
I shared this little pretty earlier in the week…it’s so good I hate to even keep it in the closet!

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
Do you think I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of this dip-dyed tassel necklace yet?! I think my cost-per-wear is around a quarter now, but it looks so cute with everything, I just can’t help myself!

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
Oh hey, there’s the racerback dress again. I wore it to dinner (with the tassel necklace #duh), and received so many compliments. You can see what I mean about the larger armholes, but the material is thick enough that you don’t notice the outline of a strapless bra or stick-ons like these.
Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
Let’s just gawk at my mom’s cuteness one more time, shall we?! Also, her top that we both love so much (she has it in 3 patterns, and I have it in 2!), is now 40% off. I guess now she’ll grab the only remaining color she doesn’t have!
Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style

I loved all your tips for how you stay fit and healthy, and was surprised by how many of us adore Zella workout wear! (My darling friend, Sheaffer, lost her beloved pup this week, and my heart just breaks for her. I know she’d appreciate some extra love if you have time to pop over.)

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style

I’m guilty of wearing Sunday’s church clothes to work on Monday. Do you do that? If you don’t see the same people, then it doesn’t count, right?!

Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
We had a late flight home from Florida last week, so Jen and I slipped away to the beach for a few hours. Having your toes in the sand and breathing sea air is always so therapeutic, don’t you think? And would you believe this scalloped swimsuit is Old Navy?! How’s that for an awesome Look-for-Less!?
Fit Tip: Size up one in the swimsuit.
Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
I had a case of Jungle Fever this day…can you blame me with this darling palm print dress? Hard to tell in the pic, but it’s a cute pink and green combo…and a great price!
Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style

I should probably be embarrassed by how often I’ve worn these jeans. But pairing them with a fun top and wedges is such an easy uniform, why fight it?!
Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style
I guess gingham makes me giddy. Or maybe it was spending the afternoon with Jen at The Don. #methinksboth And these are the same shorts I raved about earlier, but from two seasons ago.
Hi Sugarplum | Sugarplum Style

I hope these posts inspire you to create new combinations from your closet! The key isn’t to have more clothes, but to mix up what you do have in new and different ways. Except these ankle jeans and this dress, you need those. #trustme #enabler

Can you share your sizing on the Old Navy Swim Suit? I'm size 2 a 34B and would usually get the small top and medium bottom. Did you go for the medium in both? Save me from having to exchange, please! đŸ™‚

    • Of course! I'm a 34a/32b and got a small top (the XS was waaaay too tight), and a size small bottom (I wear a 26 jeans).

  5. That Anthro dress on you is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. Actually, I don't know how you manage to look so dang cute in EVERY SINGLE THING you put on. And those blue and white striped shorts are DARLING.

  6. You are always too cute, Cassie. Love the pink and red dress and almost bought the swimsuit. The reviews mentioned it had no lining, and that concerned me a bit. Would this be more of a "layout out" swimsuit, or a play in the pool suit?

    Posted 5.13.16 Reply
    • That's odd they say that…both the top and bottom are fully lined? It's not a traditional liner, but two layers of the swimsuit fabric. Which, btw, is not typical material…it's kind of a woven stretch. I wore it in the hot tub last week and it was fine!

    • Thank you! I think I'll have to try it đŸ™‚

  10. Loving the off the shoulder top. What size are you wearing? This will help me when deciding on a size to order.

    Posted 5.13.16 Reply
    • I'm wearing an XS…it's a tad tight in the armpits, but I think if I sized up, it'd be too voluminous. And maybe the tightness is what keeps it in place on my shoulders?

  11. Girl. If I ONLY shop off your page, I'll be a broke joke! Love everything! Currently have 4 tabs open to check out items you've posted.

I want you to come to my house and do all my shopping and outfit picking from now. I DON'T want to point out that "therapeutive" is not a word…but I'm a language arts teacher, so I feel obligated. Try therapeutic instead.

    • LOL…I ALWAYS welcome that!! I edit my posts a million times, but usually overlook something! So thank you…I've corrected that, because as a journalism/English major, that stuff makes me crazy, too! xo

Question about the sleeveless tank that you and your mom both have. I recently bought the navy polka dot one and love it. The only problem I have with it is the collar sticks up in back when folded over but I loved it so much that I'm keeping it and tacking it down. Do both of you have this problem? Thanks, Gloria

    • Hmmmm, now that I think about it, it does flip up some, but not really enough to bother me I guess? have you tried ironing down?

Would love to know more about the bra/pasties from Amazon. Is it reusable? Does it stay up? I have bee looking for a good strapless bra but haven't been able to find one that is comfortable to wear all day.

    Posted 5.15.16 Reply
    • I'm pretty much obsessed with it!!! I'm between an A and B cup in most bras, but the B in these pasties was perfect. Yes, it stays up and completely in place, you don't feel a thing (until you peel it off, then it's a tad uncomfortable), and you just cover them back up with the plastic film and store in their case! I've worn them countless times already and just as stick/new as the first time!! I think you can just rinse them and that reactivates if needed. They don't give a lot of lift, but it def provides good shape, and covers and 'headlights';) xo

Hiya and Happy Monday Eve! I love your sense of style and would be happy to add your photos to my Pinterest board. It may be that I am not very technically savvy but I was wondering if there was a way to do so? I enjoy going to your photos for inspiration đŸ™‚ Many thanks for this and all that you do.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead. Here's hoping it will be filled with sunshine and laughter đŸ™‚

    • Thanks so much!! I usually have a Pin It button engaged when you wave your curser over the pics, but it appears it's not working! :/ If you have the 'Pin It' book marklet installed on your computer, you can use that to pin any image you'd like! Hope this helps!! xo

  19. Tried the white jeans and you are so right. Other than a magical pair that would actually make me skinnier, these hit all my other requirements. Thanks for the recommendation!
