Sugarplum Favorite Things

Happy Tuesday, lovebugs!!! Today is a happy day for two reasons… first, I’m celebrating another year of life! And while I don’t necessarily love what getting older does to my face, I’m grateful for a strong, capable, healthy mind and body! Birthdays take on a whole new meaning when you lose people you love, and I feel privileged to celebrate another year of life.

I’m also excited to share one of my favorite posts of the year… my Sugarplum Favorite Things! I ruminate more than an acceptable amount over this list every year, but only because I want to be sure I’m including my very favorite ride-or-dies! The products and things that make my every day life better, easier, more fun or enjoyable. And also happen to make incredible gifts!

And to celebrate my birthday, I’m gifting FIVE email subscribers anything from my Favorite Things list!! Simply subscribe HERE, and I’ll randomly choose winners this Friday! (No spam, just my daily posts and weekly newsletter.) And don’t worry, existing subscribers are already entered.

So let’s get to it… this year’s Sugarplum Favorite Things!

one // Cavallo Ruffle Neck Dress. How could I have a Fave Things list and not include a piece from our Gibson x Hi Sugarplum Collections?! Of course I adore each and every piece we’ve ever created, but this dress is a must-have for every closet. It really works for any occasion… weddings, baby showers, date night, work (just add a blazer!), the list goes on. There are so many fun patterns to choose from, too!

two // Collagen Peptides Powder. You likely didn’t expect to see Collagen Powder on the list, but it’s part of my everyday life and one of the few things I do daily. A single scoop in my coffee helps with stronger hair and nails, faster muscle healing, softer skin, fewer fine lines, and even digestion regularity (don’t make me say poop.) It has no flavor and dissolves completely, so it doesn’t alter my coffee at all. I shared the scoop on this stuff in my Intermittent Fasting Q&A.

three // Keurig Special Edition Cappuccino Machine. This coffee maker has brought me more joy this year than just about anything on the list! This kitchen appliance makes all my favorite coffee drinks… hot and cold lattes, cappuccinos, espresso shots and more… but is so simple to use!! It’s also affordable and looks streamlined on my counter. And bonus, it uses standard K-Cups (and brand), and even makes incredible foam with almond milk!

four // MAC Lipstick in ‘Shocking Revelation’. Thanks to my grandmother, I’m a bright lipstick gal. In fact, I’ll rarely leave the house without ‘my lips on.’ And if I had to choose a single color for the rest of my life, it’d have to be ‘Shocking Revelation’. The perfect shade of watermelon, that’s sometimes pink and sometimes red… it literally goes with everything and looks amazing on! It brightens your smile, makes teeth look whiter, and is a creamy formula that feels good on.

five // Sunglasses. Chic, high-quality sunglasses… only $10. Enough said. If you prefer a square shape, I love these Celine-lookalikes, too.

six // IT Cosmetics Lash Blowout Mascara. If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know I was a hard-core fan of Bobbi Brown’s Eye Opening Mascara. So much so, I currently have 3 unopened tubes because I stocked up every time it went on sale, for fear it would someday be discontinued. A few months ago, I was intrigued by the incredible reviews of this product, so I gave it a whirl. And was immediately OBSESSED. Truly addicted. I can’t imaging you not loving it, too.

seven // Knit Blazer. Every wardrobe needs a classic blazer, and this one is perfection. I love the notched collar and cropped length… so chic thrown over a tee with flats, or dressed up with a camisole. It instantly pulls together any basic outfit, and is super comfortable! (Size down, I have the white and black in XS petite.)

eight // Leopard Loafers. You’ve seen me wear those shoes a zillion times in the last year! They are so comfortable and truly go with everything in your closet, from jeans to trousers, work and weekend. If you only buy one flat this season, let it be these! (Perfect for Spring and Fall, too!)

nine // Silk Sleep Mask. I started sleeping with a sleep mask last year, and it was a game-changer for me. Instantly blocks out all light, allowing me to sleep in most any environment (home, hotels, planes, etc). This one is not only 100% silk, but under $10!! Almost identical to the pricy versions, with a soft adjustable strap, large eye area, and stays put! Silk is key for not absorbing the moisturizers and natural oils of your skin. I also use a silk pillowcase, and just ordered this one to test!

ten // High Waist Leggings. These are a new find this year, but instantly shot to the top of my Faves List! Even Mama SP can’t get enough! Made of a thick Ponte knit, they are the texture of a heavy trouser, but the fit of a legging. They’re fully-opaque with flattering seams, but even better is the built-in ab panel that provides tummy control, and the thigh-slimming compression! Control and support, but still super comfortable. I honestly don’t think you’ll find a better legging. And the thickness means you can wear them with flats, sneakers, booties or knee-high boots! (Find them here, too.)

eleven // Facial Razors. We don’t call this face shaving, it’s at-home dermaplaning! This little razor miraculously sheds your face of peach fuzz and dead skin, and yes, the rogue long hairs! Your face is left baby-smooth and exfoliated, making skincare products more effective! It also creates the best canvas for makeup. I’ve tried a slew of brands, and these are the best (replace after a couple of uses for the sharpest blade).

twelve // Memory Foam Slippers. I’ve never been much of a slipper girl… I’m usually barefoot or cozy socks. But these slippers changed all that!! Easy slip-on with memory foam insole, they are like clouds! Plus, the sole means I can wander outside. You can’t beat the price and colors, either!

thirteen // Shower Cap. Why yes, that’s a shower cap on my list of Favorite Things!! But this is no ordinary, hotel-grade shower cap! It’s lined in terrycloth, so it whisks all the moisture away from your hair while bathing or showering. Seriously, my hair looks the same before and after, so it really extends the time between washings. It packs well, too, and I take it on every trip. There’s a reason this has made the list 3 years in a row!

fourteen // Delicate Layered Necklace. This has been my favorite jewelry find this year. It’s a great brushed gold color that can lean more gold or silver depending on the rest of your outfit. It’s dainty and light, creates a layered look with just one step. Oh, and code ‘HiSugarplum’ makes it under $50! (Great gift idea!!)

fifteen // Colleen Rothschild Skincare. This is an obvious favorite, right?! The hands-down favorite skincare line for me and Mama Sugarplum… and many of you! I receive daily reader emails and messages thanking me for introducing them to this product line. It really is that good! If you’re looking to try it for yourself, the Discovery Kit is a great starter, including all the best-sellers. And as always, code ‘Sugarplum20’ saves you 20% on your entire order.

sixteen // Detox Dry Shampoo. I usually go several days between hair washes, so dry shampoo is my saving grace. I’ve always only used drugstore brands, until I received a sample of this DryBar Dry Shampoo… and my world changed. It’s 100% superior to anything I’ve ever used from the drugstore and worth every penny. It absorbs excess oil without leaving any powdery residue, and smells terrific.

seventeen // Lip Sleeping Mask. I apply this lip mask every night before bed, and avoid chapped lips… even in the harsh winter! It’s such a good hydrator and leaves your lips feeling great. It’s a great stocking stuffer, too!

eighteen // eBags Packing Cubes. I’m a broken record when it comes to these things, but I honestly could not travel without them! They allow you to fit so much more in your suitcase, while also keeping it tidy and organized. And clothes stay put, so they don’t wrinkle in transit. We have countless sets now, and the whole family uses them… no matter how long the trip.

nineteen // Neulash Serum. This was on my Christmas Wish List last year, and by February I had noticeably longer and thicker lashes. No exaggeration, you’ll have extension-level lashes!! It’s a little pricey, but a single tube lasted me 10 months. But be patient, it takes several weeks to notice the change. I used it nightly for a month, and now it’s only a few times a week to maintain.

twenty // Brushed Microfiber Sheet Set. This is the third year these sheets have made my Favorites List, and I’m standing firmly behind it! I’ve paid absurd prices for sheet sets in the past, and these are far superior. We have them on every bed in the house, and guests always ask about them the next morning! Just look at all those perfect reviews! Take your bed to the next level, and add this superior mattress pad!

Okay…that wraps my Top 20 Sugarplum Faves for this year! Honestly, I wanted to add this guy, but just couldn’t bring myself to picture it in the collage! My Deluxe Egg Cooker was a serious runner-up, as is my favorite-ever perfume. It’s uni-sex and smells incredible on Mr. SP, too!

Don’t forget, I’m gifting FIVE email subscribers any one thing from my Favorite Things list!! Simply subscribe HERE, and I’ll randomly choose winners this Friday! (No spam, just my daily posts and weekly newsletter.) And don’t worry, existing subscribers are already entered.

I’d love to hear what’s on your Favorites List! Have you tried any of these, and are they your faves, too? I love that these all make incredible gifts, too!

  1. I always love your suggestions, and have already purchased almost all of them from this list! I would pick your new favorite coffee maker… and would use it each morning to read your blog and contemplate what I’m going to next add to my wish list! 🙂

In all seriousness, Happy Birthday, Cassie…. if you ever doubt yourself, and the positive effect of your blog, please know that you helped bring me back to the “land of the living” after my mom died (unrelatedly, followed 7 short weeks later by my dad). Your blog has been a safe space, a place where I could escape and enjoy the beauty, love, and humor with which you have built your life. You share the hopes and fears that we all have for our children, our parents, and our lives while still focusing on the good in the world. I toast you today and wish you peace, love, and continued joy… Happy Birthday, Cassie! <3

Although it’s not on your favorites list, I am obsessed with the stacked ring from Accessories Concierge. Happy Birthday! I hope it is a fabulous day! I own several items on that list thanks to YOU… 🙂 However, the very first thing I bought from your suggestion was Colleen Rothschild discovery kit. I had a bad reaction to a face mask and was using another product at the time that was not helping. I had just started following you and purchased the kit from your recommendation and your glowing skin….and within a week of using the products my skin was back to clear again and looked better than ever. I have not used anything else since. Best skincare ever!

Love your cosmetics posts and the way you include colors. Do you ever wear a lip color that is not as bright? I live and work in a very conservative area of Kansas where such bright colors on the lip might cause negative attention, especially in my role as a leader at my college and church. It is quite difficult to locate a paler color that is also strong enough to look like one is wearing color at all (in other words, not washed out). Just curious if your make up artist guru has some experience with a more subtle lip.

She absolutely works with muted and nude shades, we just don’t use them on me. Anytime I try, I just don’t feel like myself! if you like a shade, you could just dab it on for subtle stain, or layer a neutral gloss over to tone it down!
