Oh Monday, you beast…always rolling around way to fast! We had so much fun on our girl’s getaway…my stomach muscles are literally sore with all the laughing (and guacamole), but now I need a weekend to recover! Spring Break is keeping me going though, it’s around the corner and I’m so excited about a whole week with the family!
I think it’s safe to say Spring has sprung in Texas. We still have to check the weather every morning for the rogue cold days, but for the most part, I think we’re ready to move on. Which means rain. And sometimes, lots of it! And do you know how to make rainy days awesome?! Buy rainboots!
Seriously, it changes your entire outlook on dreary days! If there’s rain in the forecast, I do an awkward fist pump, then plan my entire outfit around my rainboots. And today I’m sharing two fun styles for your rainy day inspiration!
V-Neck Sweater | Plaid Shirt | Favorite Leggings | Necklace | Hoop Earrings | Packable Rainboots | Travel Umbrella
V-Neck Sweater | Plaid Shirt | Favorite Leggings | Necklace | Hoop Earrings | Travel Umbrella | Watch | Spike Bracelet
You’ve seen this top on me repeatedly (here and here), because it’s just so soft and lightweight! Most times I wear it alone (with this bralette), but I also like it layered over a shirt for more color and pattern. And just because rainboots are more of a utility shoe, that doesn’t mean you can’t jazz them up with some bling!

What I love most about these particular boots (besides the fun color!), is the fit and weight. They are much more fitted to my foot and calf than traditional Hunter boots, and not near as heavy. Plus, they fold up for easy packing!
Fit Tip: Hunters only come in whole sizes, and I’d recommend sizing down. This packable style runs a bit smaller than traditional, so there’s not as much wiggle room, but sizing down still fit me best.
For a second look, I paired traditional black boots with jeans and a vest for a casual look, perfect for weekend wear. One of my favorite things about rainboots is the feeling of freedom they give you in inclement weather! Puddles, sideways rain, slushy sidewalks…bring it on!! It’s no wonder kids love playing in the rain so much! And with these, you don’t have to worry about ruining your shoes, or your pants hem getting wet.

Sugarplum Style Tip: To keep that glossy shine, just wipe your boots down with a little Goo Gone. This sponge works well, too.
Baseball caps used to be my saving-grace in college (I’m looking at you, 8am class!), but with cute ones like these, they become part of your outfit (I borrowed this one from my son, they’re his faves). And still save you from bad hair days.

I mean, how about that vertical?! Globetrotters here I come!

I held off investing in rainboots for years, and now can hardly believe how often they come in handy! I went with a lesser-expensive option first (remember this Look-for-Less?), but they cracked after a season, and didn’t have much insulation against cold.
If you’ve been thinking about adding a pair to your wardrobe, I’d recommend this packable pair for more versatility and usage. And if you prefer a less utilitarian look, then this refined style might be for you. I promise, after the first time you wear rainboots, you’ll wonder how you went so long without them!

So cute- love that last jumping shot! I actually don’t have rain boots. I just stay inside when it rains. 😉 Love those Hunters though- the red ones are fun!
Ha! Well, that’s an option, too! 😉
My son is a VV junkie too! 😉 Isn’t it fun being able to wear their stuff?!
Cute looks! I thought I read you got the red ones a present from Mr. SP (lucky!) No snark, just an honest question…can you rstyle gifts like that? I was under the assumption it violated the ethics policy? Just really curious for my own blog.🤓 I am new to this, and don’t want to make mistakes.
Thanks for asking this! Totally wondering this as well. No snark either, just curious!
I love this question. I have a fairly popular blog and was strongly advised to steer away from rstyling gifts, but maybe I am wrong. In my eyes, it was like double dipping, but it is a shady area.I, like Cassie, work very hard at creating my content, and I do receive considerable compensation (as I am sure Cassie does…that elf a system was over $5000). Princess sent me to Singapore last year because of readership! It is important for me to be transparent and would like some clarification on this. I am glad you asked. I read and see multiple bloggers doing this and am confused. It may seem like a minor detail, but I think the discussion is important.
Thanks for the comments and thoughtful question! First I want to say that I only share items I truly love, regardless of collaboration, commission, or who paid for it! 🙂 But I’m assuming ya’ll are referring to items gifted by friends and loved ones, and not items ‘gifted’ by a brand? If it’s gifted by a brand, I’ll include a c/o (care of) after the link, or a disclaimer at the bottom of the post indicating the collaboration. But most brands actually request you use affiliate links…both for tracking purposes, and to provide the blogger with added compensation for the collaboration.
As for gifted items from loved ones, I think the better angle is to consider why should a brand receive free exposure and endorsements from a blogger, who’s worked hard to earn her reputation and loyal readership, just because someone else purchased the item? (Especially when it’s from your spouse, who purchased it with shared income! ha!) So basically the retailer wins twice…once with a purchase, and again with free exposure.
If I shared only to make a buck, my blog would have folded years ago because readers would see through that in a second! When I do share something, it’s because I truly love it, and think many of my readers will love it, too. I hope this helps answer your question! xoxo
I just ordered the umbrella and baseball cap! I live in Oregon where it rains almost everyday from November till April, so you can never have enough rain gear! Can you tell us the lipsticks colors your wearing in this post? So pretty!
Thank you, Mary! I’m wearing this Lancome lipstick, in 132 Caprice: http://bit.ly/2gktgmk I talked about it a little more in this post: https://hisugarplum.com/2017/02/sweet-sassy.html
Thank you Cassie! A few months ago I ordered the Lancôme 368 Rose that you recommended and love it. I’ve been wanting something a little more red, so 132 Caprice seems perfect. Our coloring is similar and you save me a lot of time at the lipstick counter 🙂
Hi Cassie,
Was wondering if two sets of Hunters really make sense? I am on the fence of buying both pairs and was curious about your rationale for buying both sets. I know you have stated you mix and match a lot of items, but you seem to have a boot for all types of weather conditions. I recall some cute patterned ones as well. Would recommend biting the bullet and buying both? Decisions, decisions!
LOVED you on a private plane! Wowza…I know it is your friend’s, but it was pretty incredible. Blessed, my friend. THAT is what you are!

Hi Brittany! I’ve had the black ones for while, and wear them so often, that for me, it made sense to add a second pair. Plus, these are lightweight and packable, and perfect for our Spring Break trip next week (hence why the hubs got them for me!). I do have a floral pair gifted to me by the artist who designed them, but they are a little too Springy for our weather just yet. As for your decision, I’d start with a single pair and see how much wear you get out of them! I can tell you that had I tried the packable pair (the red ones) first, I never would have bought the original style…it’s heavier and clunkier …but still great for wet weather. Hope this helps a little! xo
no snark either but before i figured out what was going on with affiliations i wondered why some blogs—NOT yours, which i sincerely enjoy–ONLY talked about items that were RIDICULOUSLY expensive– i no longer follow those blogs– i asked one blogger about this and WOW– the aggression–i just want to follow a blog with pretty pictures and some fashion advice–thats it
Some people just have really expensive taste…and big budgets to match, so I guess there’s an audience for every type of style blog. Mine just so happens to be more budget-friendly, because I’m forever a cheapskate! 😉 xo
