Spring Closet Essentials

Happy almost-Friday, friends! Having Monday off for Easter has really made this week fly by! The weather has been incredible, too, making it really hard to focus inside!

I recently changed over my closet for the season, and gone are the sweaters, fleece, and boots… bring on the tees, tanks, and sandals!

I will definitely add some fun new pieces, but the core of my Spring closet is a handful of basics that serve as the foundation of most of my outfits.

A white tee tucked in to jeans, knotted with a skirt, or layered under a jean jacket. Lightweight denim to dress up and down with sandals or sneakers. A classic bag for pairing with everything from dresses to jeans. And of course a few key accessories to give the outfit spark.

Today I’m sharing my Spring Essentials, starting with a quality white tee, classic jeans, and stylish sneakers, and it can all be found at Zappos!

I have a few white tees I wear on repeat, and this Madewell v-neck pocket tee is always one I reach for. It’s super soft and quality cotton, with an easy fit that’s not too slouchy. It’s not sheer and washes well.

Fit Tip: It’s a fitted tee, but I prefer it more relaxed and size up to a small and sometimes a medium (I have it in several colors!).

I found these Levi’s earlier this season, and it only took one wear to become new favorites. They start a little stiff and snug, but quickly form to your body and become increasingly comfortable with each wear.

I love the light wash for Spring styles, and the straight leg is perfect for sneakers or sandals. The high waist offers extra tummy support and means no gaping in the back.

They are 100% cotton, which takes a little getting used to after years of stretchy jeans, but I now adore them!

Fit Tip: They’re true to size, I’m in a 26.

Veja sneakers are definitely an investment, but are so super stylish! They have a built-in, hidden wedge that gives you a lift and elongates the legs. They come in a range of darling color combos, too.

The leather gets softer with each wear, but the tongue is a little stiff in the beginning. I solve that by pulling it over to the side!

Fit Tip: Vejas run large, I sized down one full size.

The leather crossbody is a classic bag that never goes out of style, and it pairs with a range of outfit styles. This one is a great size for the everyday essentials, and I love that the strap is removable!

It comes with a coordinating leather strap, plus a wider canvas strap. You know I love to change it out for fun stripes, too!

Another essential Spring combo I reach for regularly is soft jeans, darling sandals, and a classic top. I shared these jeans last month, and you promptly sold them out… but good news, because I found them fully stocked at Zappos!!

After a year of elastic waists, I was dreading the return of denim… until I found these jeans. They are the first truly comfortable pair of jeans I’ve ever owned. Made of the softest denim with a good amount of stretch, the girlfriend fit is relaxed, but not sloppy. I love the rinse and higher rise for a flattering, slimming effect. I cuffed them for an ankle length, but I’m thinking of hemming them for a cleaner line.

The top is a soft washed cotton, with button front and cuffed sleeves. It’s a step up from a basic tee, and feels pulled together and stylish.

It’s officially sandal season here, and I pretty much rotate between my beloved Tory Burch Millers (the leather ‘Makeup’ shade is the perfect neutral!), and leopard slides. These have a cushioned footbed and are a fun pop of personality… plus a great price point!

This is one of my all time favorite posts at Hi Sugarplum. First of all, I also discovered Zappos variety several years ago. We purchase most of our shoes and boots from there – good prices and fast and easy returns if needed. I recently discovered all the different items they feature and have used it for gift giving ideas. Secondly, several years ago I retired from a very conservative business where I wore suits and heels 90% of the time. Since then I have revamped my wardrobe by building a more casual look. That being said, I do not enjoy shopping in malls, and use a couple of brands on-line to order. I also have created a less is more wardrobe using basics. One time a young intern in our office told me she loved my look and that I never wore the same clothes more than one time! Absolutely nothing could have been farther from the truth, and I accepted that comment as a compliment. I guess I used the capsule wardrobe theory before it became popular. I love all the basics you have shown today and would like to see more of the same. I know a woman that went shopping 2-3 times a week after work, buying random clothing pieces that never worked, only because she didn’t have a plan. She had a ton of clothing she couldn’t afford and always complained she had nothing to wear and couldn’t afford to save for retirement.

I am soon to be 69 and love your posts because of your classic looks with lots of fun options thrown in. This post about spring essentials is such a great reminder that my wardrobe doesn’t need to be packed with options as I usually wear the quality classic pieces the most.
